Ep 105: Empowering Ourselves By Letting Go of Our Excuses Dec 19, 2024
    Show notes

We have all been there! You see poor behavior from your horse that you know needs to change, but instead of dealing with it, you make an excuse.

“I don’t have time to work on this.”

“We need to be working on our performance goals, not this.”

“That’s just how my horse is.”

    “It’s the adrenaline.”

“Any horse would do that in that situation.”

Today we challenge ourselves and our listeners to let go of our excuses and take responsibility for our horse’s behavior. By taking ownership of our situation, we can empower ourselves to trust our processes, and to be more confident in ourselves and our horses.

S2 Ep 103: Building Trust in Yourself Nov 19, 2024
    Show notes

In today’s episode of Beyond the Bridle, we discuss building trust in yourself and your horse. We reframe what trust actually is, and that it isn’t about expecting perfection from ourselves or our horses, but it is about having reliability. Clarity and boundaries need to be held in a way where we can say, “I see you” to ourselves and our horses, without excusing poor behavior. We share an easy tip you can apply to your life today to ensure that you still show up for yourself each and every day, no matter what.

S2 Ep 102: Redefining Confidence: Building Skills To True Self-Belief in The Saddle Nov 05, 2024
    Show notes

In this episode, we dive into the hard stuff—the kind of raw that doesn’t feel polished or perfect. McKayla shares her experience of finding time to rest while being sick, despite the push to keep moving like everything’s fine, while Camri opens up about a wonky trail ride with Freya and the confidence it took to hold steady.

Using these reflections as our starting point, we’re taking a deeper look at confidence in the saddle and beyond. Is confidence just about skill, or is there something more to it? We explore the differences between bravery and self-belief, how technical skills alone can’t guarantee lasting confidence, and why true self-confidence means trusting yourself—even when things go wrong. We also touch on imposter syndrome, the weight of external validation, and why leaning into your own self-belief matters just as much as mastering technique.

Tune in for an honest conversation on redefining confidence, the ups and downs of finding your footing, and why self-trust is the foundation for riding—and living—boldly.

Is Hobble Training Dangerous? Sep 10, 2024
    Show notes

Hobbling can be a dangerous venture if not done right, but so can driving your car, riding your horse, and saddling a horse for the first time. By using the right processes, you can hobble train your horse safely and effectively. Hobble training can teach your horse how to be “stuck” in a way that doesn’t involve barbed wire tearing apart their legs.

Camri Johnson was a guest on one of MaK Athletes client calls to explain her processes in hobble training, and why she thinks it is a necessary skill for most horses.
