The group talks about how the production pulled out all the stops on this final episode.
Chris reveals that Germany will make two new episodes of Beyond Belief for the twentieth anniversary of the original.
This is also the last chance for Chris to get all the stories correct. We will also find out who won season four and who throughout the entire season got the most stories correct.
Story 1: The Hand – In a bar called the Bloody Hand, named after a brutal murder of a woman whose only remains found were her bloody hand, a drifter finds the hand pointing at him.
Kyle doesn’t understand why the criminal doesn’t leave after the hand calls him out.
Jesse can’t get behind criminals just confessing to their crimes.
Tiffany thinks this is such an urban legend.
Chris doesn’t know if the ghostly rules apply here. Maybe it was just faulty robotics?
Maybe it was just in his head the whole time like the Tell Tale Heart.
Story 2: The Battered Doll – When a maid claims innocence after the death of her employer, one of the deceased’s prize possessions tells otherwise.
Kyle argues that Teddy Ruxpin could have recorded the murder.
Tiffany thinks the doll talking was just added in by the writers, but the rest seems true.
Story 3: Poker Justice – In the early 1900s three poker players need to win back a cheat’s earnings by using an honest poker player, but in the process, they get played themselves.
Mark doesn’t think the writers could come up with this story. But maybe it’s an urban legend from pirate days.
Story 4: Above the Clouds – A girl suffers from a reoccurring nightmare in a falling elevator, only to discover she needs to go to a birthday party at the top of a building.
There’s no interesting twist here, it’s just a coincidence.
She could have had the dream after the elevator and miss-remembered the sequence of events.
The group tries to figure out what would have made this story more interesting.
Story 5: Screen Saver – A year after breaking up and moving across the country, a couple cross paths when an odd screensaver shows up on a computer.
Tiff was waiting for the screensaver to be the supernatural element, instead of just a coincidence.
This story had one of our biggest laughs.
They discuss how her apartment had way too many plants in it
The story results are revealed.
And Chris didn’t get a hundred percent. BUT the coin did!

#44 Frakes and geeks [S4E12 with Samm Levine]
Jan 08, 2019
Kyle is sitting out but we have guest-host actor and podcaster Samm Levine. Samm has watched the show before, and also had a neighbor who bragged about acting in an episode of Beyond Belief.
Samm is a hardline skeptic of all things supernatural. A big believer of known skeptic James Randy and the million-dollar challenge.
Samm has appeared recently on the show Movie Trivia Schmoedown.
Story 1: Witness To Murder – A ghost hunter who captured ghosts on film meets a mysterious end.
Samm tries to unpack Chris’s belief in ghosts.
In talking about the integrity of true stories in BB, Samm tells us the actual true story of Cool Runnings.
Most people find this story too be ridiculous and very writery.
Story 2: Roulette Wheel – A down on his luck gamboling addict finds himself on a mysterious winning streak.
Samm does not believe that odds could allow this to happen. Also, the pit boss would have thrown him out way earlier.
Chris thinks there are so many gambling stories that this could have happened.
Story 3: The Phrenologist’s Head – A doctor given a Phrenologist’s Head finds a smudge on it that leads to a miraculous discovery.
Samm explains that the doctors would have figured it out eventually upon surgery…And a lawsuit.
Chris believes that something could have happened to lead the doctor down the right path.
Jesse wonders if Freud’s ghost is involved in the smudging.
Story 4: The Bridge – A hiker crosses a shaky bridge and is helped by a mysterious woman who turns out to be more than she appears.
Jesse thinks the woman had her mom’s name in her subconscious and projected onto the woman.
Samm thinks it’s a single-source story where the woman miss remembered the events. points to Malcolm Gladwell’s Blink.
Story 5: The Cigar Box – A girl buys an antique, which turns out to belong to a neighbor.
This segment stars Campbell Lane, who does VO for the second half of BB.
Jesse thinks there are one too many coincidences.
Samm walks through how it could have happened – he was just a bitter old man who died after being denied his antique box by a little girl.
Friend of the podcast, Misty Stinnett (who has a new podcast Go Help Yourself) shares some self-help tips. But some are fact and some are fiction.
The story results are revealed.
Samm tells us a story of when he “met” Jonathan Frakes.

#43 A good first draft [S4E11 with Jonathan Kite]
Jan 01, 2019
Jonathan is familiar with the show, but hasn’t seen it until now.
Jonathan talks about Nightmare on Elm Street’s origins, and how he’s seen a ghost in a girlfriend’s video.
Story 1: The Mystery Of Douglas Hibbard – A man, sick with the cold, checks into a motel and mysteriously stashes something in a safe.
Tiffany feels like it’s an urban legend.
Maybe the clerk just messed up the timing of events.
Story 2: Wheelchair Man – A criminal with psychic abilities gives up his cronies after being pushed out of a heist.
Jesse doesn’t understand why a criminal would help the cops.
Jonathan doesn’t believe cops would give up a witness.
Tiffany just thinks burglars are dumb.
Story 3: The Vigil – A comatose woman about to be taken off life support finds a way to communicate with her boyfriend.
Everyone agrees it was a very forgettable story. But maybe that means it’s true?
Jesse thinks the boyfriend believed it enough, but it was just a coincidence.
Maybe it’s too fact to be fact?
Story 4: The Mandarin’s Bowl – After a family trip to China town, a young boy is revealed to be the reincarnation of an old pottery master.
Jonathan doesn’t understand why the master and student don’t ask more questions. Their reunion is very short.
Everyone agrees the parents would have freaked out more.
Tiffany thinks the most ridiculous stories are fact.
Story 5: Ghost Writer – A cruel man hires a ghostwriter who accidentally records a confession of a horrible crime.
Chris felt it was very similar to Batman Returns.
Chris pitches the boring theory. So boring that it’s fact.
Jonathan thinks it’s a good first draft but then it falls apart.
This week we call up a listener and have him play a game in which he needs to decide if our news headlines are real or made up.
The story results are revealed.

#42 Futzing with the wrong drivers [S4E10]
Dec 25, 2018
Jesse pitches his Beyond Beliefe App which would randomize BB stories from all four seasons. This way you would get a fresh mix bag of stories each time.
This leads to a discussion of each host’s voting strategy and meta-game.
Story 1: Moonstruck Beach – An aspiring writer moves to a secluded town and finds herself the target of a dangerous man.
How can a ghost use printers and why wouldn’t the printer immediately warn her.
If it was true wouldn’t moonstruck beach be an actual book?
Tiffany wonders how many people need to die for this woman to get a best selling book?
Story 2: Healing Hands – A nurse caring for a dying patient, witnesses a strange visitor.
Jesse hates single-source stories.
Chris believes it, according to the ghostly rules.
Mark talks about how lazy he is.
Story 3: Aspen Sunny Side – A group of friends mountain biking get a bad feeling when one doesn’t return.
Most people have bad feelings all the time, so this could definitely have happened.
Kyle thinks it was accidental astral projection.
Tiffany wonders why no one just uses a phone.
Jesse found this story very complicated. None of the character actions make sense.
Story 4: Night Walker – A scammer is approached by his neighbor to scam her husband only to discover she isn’t exactly human.
Vampires? Everyone agrees this is just nuts.
Since there was another true vampire story on BB, could this one be true?
Kyle dives into the Vampire Rules and doesn’t know if she could hide her fangs.
Story 5: Hot Car – a couple, framed by a mysterious woman, get karmic retribution after being released from jail.
Did the woman confess to easily?
It’s a coincidence-based story, so the group believes it.
Friends of the podcast Max Labella and Ashley Walker join the studio and listen to audience-submitted stories.
The story results are revealed.

#41 Into the spider closet [S4E9 with Will Hines]
Dec 18, 2018
Kyle is out this episode, but in his place we have guest host Will Hines! Will Hines is a comedian who performs at UCB LA and co-hosted the podcast “Don’t Get Me Started.”
Will hasn’t seen the original show before and is a hardline skeptic.
Story 1: The Wealthy Widow – A man marries a widow and goes looking for her late husband’s buried fortune.
Who tells this story?… since the man is dead and the other witness is a ghost? Will thinks maybe the widow murdered both husbands.
Everyone agrees the ghost taunting the husband is the best part.
Story 2: The Witness – A group of girls avenges their friend’s murder by summoning her spirit.
Tiffany thinks the girls just knew details about the suspect and relayed it to the police.
Will thinks it’s very similar to the movie The Craft.
Story 3: The Accident – A year after a man saves someone in a car accident, he finds himself in a similar situation.
The group debates the integrity of windshields.
The group uses the coincidence rule. Except for Will, who thinks it’s too obviously fact, that it must be fiction.
Story 4: Bad Dreams – A woman’s deadly predictions about her 30th birthday seem to be coming true.
All agree this is one of the better stories, with an actual twist ending.
Chris had a premonition about running to neighbors, and then seconds later ran into them. Is that really a premonition though?
Story 5: Mental – A couple pretending to have telekinetic abilities discover something incredible when they face real danger.
Is this just a story the couple told to drum up business?
It’s crazy to think she had powers but then could never use them again.
During our ad-break, we read and listen to audience-submitted stories that are very Beyond Belief…
The story results are revealed.
Our guest-host Will only guessed one correctly and 100 percent questions the integrity of Beyond Belief’s research.

Dec 13, 2018
This week we’re bringing you a special bonus episode: our original unaired pilot. No one outside of the five of us has ever heard this before. And in fact, we hadn’t even listened to it in over a year. So, we gathered around the campfire (living room) and marveled at our genius (inexperience). Take a listen with us and be sure to stick around until the end in which we have a post-mortem discussion about the original pilot, noting fun observations and easter eggs for long-time listeners.

#40 Leafing the witness [S4E8]
Dec 11, 2018
We’ve returned with the back half of our fourth and final season. And if something feels oddly familiar about this week’s batch of stories… it’s because we watched this episode in the past and recorded an unreleased episode as a test pilot. And as a bonus, we will be releasing the pilot episode this Thursday in all it’s horrifying, awkward glory. Thankfully, we can barely remember what happened in last week’s episode, so this should be pretty fresh for us.
Story 1: Caitlin’s Candle – After being saved from a mugger by a candle with seemingly supernatural powers, a woman brings it home only to find out that it once belonged to her deceased mother.
Why would the mom hide jewelry in a candle? And WHY would a robber steal a candle?
Everyone thinks this is a ghost making elaborate plans. Kyle thinks maybe the mom did this all to teach the daughter to believe in herself.
Story 2: The Flower Jury – When a man is murdered in a flower shop, a detective uses an unconventional approach to solve the crime.
Chris and Mark have heard about plants being affected by positive and negative emotions.
Kyle thinks it’s ridiculous that we could believe in ghosts and spirits but not a plant.
Jesse thinks the detective made up the plant thing to trick the suspect into confessing.
Story 3: The Mentor – Magician brothers living in the shadows of Houdini attempt a new death-defying trick.
Jesse loved the unnecessary backflips in their routine.
Are these magicians real? No one knows. Maybe David Blaine was inspired by them?
The curse makes everyone feel like it could be written.
Story 4: The Old Bike – two brothers find an old bike and discover something mysterious inside the handlebar.
Everyone agrees hiding a note inside a handlebar is ludicrous.
Jesse thinks it’s mainly coincidental with some convoluted stuff added on.
Story 5: The Music Teacher – A renowned pianist has a creative block until he meets with his first piano teacher.
This is a classic dead the whole time story.
Everyone thinks the chocolate was added by the writers. Maybe he just had a mental block and the teacher used the chocolate to snap him out of it.

#B05 Chris, Claire, & Max watch the scariest Beyond Belief story
Dec 05, 2018
Chris has gone rogue and started his own podcast: Highbrow Reviews. With some pretty spectacular co-hosts, I might add: Claire Berger and Max La Bella, both previous Beyond Beyond Belief guests. In this new podcast, Chris and his co-hosts get high and review things… movies, TV shows, video games, and a whole lot more. We’d love it if you’d show him some Beyond Belief love and take a listen. Unlike our show it doesn’t need to be listened to in any specific order—actually, does our show? Probably not—so subscribe, listen, and let us know what you think! A brand new episode is up right now and every Wednesday.

#39 Car trouble [S4E7]
Oct 23, 2018
This is the season 4 mid-season break…and Jesse has karaoke voice.
Story 1: The Wreath – A detective investigating a hit and run case gets a break when another accident mysteriously occurs.
It’s very believable that city officials could get confused with their paperwork.
This could be a case of the complicated theory.
The parents of the deceased child were a bit too “handsy” given the scenario.
Story 2: Terror Night – A mysterious pipe leak leads to a life-changing event.
Chris just thinks this is about crappy apartments.
There’s been a running theme in season 4 –near death astral projection to save one’s own life.
Jesse thinks the “thanks” is too writery.
Story 3: Tants – An artist who’s inspired by an old woman at the park, makes a shocking discovery when she paints her.
No one thought this story would be named Tants. Which are actually pants with a table built into them…from The Regular Show.
No one saw the initial twist coming.
There is no way this story is fiction. The writers couldn’t make this story up.
Story 4: The Candidate – A politician’s conscience gets the best of him during a political debate.
Kyle would believe this it was from an older time.
Tiff points out that if it’s the spirit of Abraham Lincoln why didn’t he step in earlier?
Story 5: The Ring – A hairdresser having an affair with a client’s husband enacts a nasty plan to get what she wants.
Tiffany believes that people do crazy things for money.
No one understands why the ring is cursed.
Part 7 of our Ouija experience:
On this week’s installment Mark, Jesse, and Kyle finally use the Ouija and dive into the spirit word…

#38 Black belt ghost [S4E6 with Jamie Gaul & Joe Dolce]
Oct 16, 2018
This episode we welcome two guest hosts: comedian Jamie Gaul from Upright Citizens Brigade and friend-of-the-podcast Joe Dolce. Regarding the world of supernatural, Joe is a skeptic while Jamie is a “boo-liever.” That’s not actually said in the show. I just thought of that right now.
Story 1: The Dorm – A girl in college finds that her dorm protects her in mysterious ways.
Tiff doesn’t understand why the girl didn’t inform the mom that her daughter’s spirit helped her.
Jamie doesn’t understand why the mom came back to the dorm at all.
No one understands why a woman can’t just defend herself. Nope, she has to be possessed.
Chris has never heard of a ghost giving someone a superhuman skill.
Story 2: The Child Artist – A child with an antique chalkboard scribbles a strange message.
Chris thinks the mom projected her ideas onto the chalkboard.
Jesse thought (hoped?) the mom was just sleeping with the neighbor.
Chris remembers his grandma telling a similar story.
Story 3: The Weatherman – A weatherman’s tries to boost ratings in a way that comes back to haunt him.
Jesse can see it being told, but not it actually happening.
Jamie thinks this all checks out.
Chris thinks, yet again, that he would have heard of this story.
Story 4: Sit-Down Comedian – A comedian who bullies his manager gets karmic retribution after a freak accident.
Tiffany thinks it ties up way too nicely.
No one believes that the manager would give up a profession as a successful comedian.
Story 5: Room 245 – A woman staying at a hotel with her sick mother stumbles into one of the strangest conspiracies ever.
Chris thinks that if this is fact, this is the craziest story Beyond Belief has ever told.
Jesse thinks maybe the woman just mixed up which hotel she was staying at. Jamie thinks maybe the woman just murdered her mother?
Tiffany thinks this could be an urban legend.
Part 6 of our Ouija experience:
On this week’s episode Mark, Jesse, and Kyle finally use set up the Ouija board and begin to reach out to spirits…
The story results are revealed.
Chris gets a surprising score. Joe gets an even more surprising score.

#B04 Uncut interview with modern sage, Ian Sneed
Oct 11, 2018
On this week’s episode, we interviewed modern sage Ian Sneed and asked: what are some tips and tricks for conducting a Oujia board night? Those of you who listened to the interview were probably as shocked to discover as we were that Ian believes there is no such thing as a safe Ouija board experience. The full interview was fascinating and went into much more detail that what we were not able to include on Tuesday, but based on the positive response we’re releasing the full, uncut interview for you to listen to. The full interview goes into much more detail on Ian’s background, and offers some additional interesting details on his methods and approach. Enjoy!

#37 Critical hit [S4E5]
Oct 09, 2018
The group compares Don Lafontaine and Campbell Lane’s voice over work on the show.
Story 1: House Of Shadows – A house sitter finds a strange video on the TV that seems to be coming from inside the house.
Everyone agrees this one was really creepy.
Tiffany feels it’s too trope’y.
They debate why the murder went to Europe.
Story 2: One Hand In The Till – A son desperate for money, gets a mysterious visit from his dad.
They agree there are too many Beyond Belief’y elements going on.
Jesse likes that it’s a fable of good vs. evil.
Kyle thinks maybe the dad just had a premonition.
Story 3: Teasdale’s Motor Car – A car enthusiast finally gets his dream car, but it comes with a catch…
Kyle thinks maybe the car was possessed.
Chris decides to go the opposite of what he’d usually vote
Mark thinks the writers just like to write car stories
Story 4: The Vision – A man tries to stop a bus, after having a vision of an accident.
Mark points out the writers probably just watched the movie Speed.
Most agree there are a ton of stories like this in the world.
They point out the unnecessary boss/secretary subplot.
Story 5: The Grave – A conspiring wife is tormented by guilt over her late husband.
Chris thinks maybe a ghost could kill grass.
Jesse doesn’t understand why the husband’s warning couldn’t have been more interesting.
Part 5 of our Ouija experience:
On this week’s episode, we interviewed modern sage Ian Sneed and asked: what are some tips and tricks for conducting a Oujia board night?

#36 Pickle [S4E4]
Oct 02, 2018
The group discusses how great the all-female episode was. Tiffany realizes how hard it is to host the podcast (but is it really? Try doing these show-notes every week).
Story 1: Second Sight – A blind woman who received a corneal transplant can’t help but stare at a certain suspicious looking man.
Tiffany thinks it could have just been a coincidence.
Chris thinks she may just have had a psychic intuition
Story 2: The Fine Line – When one sister is miles away her twin gets a bad feeling…
Jewel Staite from Firefly was featured in this story. Jesse points out that, more importantly, she was in Space Cases.
Is there a beyond belief twin rule? …No.
Jesse doesn’t feel like there was any interesting twists in this story.
Jesse thinks it could be a complicated rule story.
Story 3: The Wrong Turn – A mattress deliveryman swerves to miss an old lady and ends up saving a little kid. But where is the old lady?
Mark gives us the story recap…Kyle criticizes Mark’s recap…Chris rates Mark’s recap a 99/100.
Kyle proposes a plausible theory about how this story could have actually happened involving people taking lots of drugs.
Chris makes a connection to last week’s story, “Out of Service,” where someone who is alive projects themself as a vision to seek help.
Story 4: Who Was I – A man suffering from claustrophobia sees a hypnotist and digs far back into the cause of this illness.
The group discusses personal stories about hypnotism.
Kyle thinks he may have heard about this other man then just forgot.
Jesse points out through his knowledge of hypnosis, that it’s more likely that a hypnotist would plant the idea or belief in the patient.
Story 5: You Are Next – When a man’s luck is turned around he tries to call off a hit he placed on his wife.
Everyone wonders – who told this story?
Kyle loves this story.
Tiffany doesn’t understand why he would still take her to the restaurant. Kyle thinks since they probably got engaged at a Chinese restaurant he probably just didn’t want to mess up the anniversary.
Everyone points out how cool this guy’s chair is.
Part 4 of our Ouija experience:
A caller leaves a voicemail that influences the group’s decision to move forward with the Ouija experience.
The story results are revealed.
The group tied at 3 correct!

#35 Girls just wanna have puns [S4E3 with Misty Monroe, Claire Berger, Misty Stinnett, & Kelly Perron]
Sep 25, 2018
Prepare for an all-female takeover of Beyond Beyond Belief!
Along with Tiffany, our guest hosts this week are: Misty Monroe, Claire Berger, Misty Stinnett, and Kelly Perron. The hosts dive into their relationship with the show and the supernatural. And Misty Monroe regales us with her amazing and frightening Ouija experiences.
Story 1: Out Of Service – A couple camping in the woods is saved by a man who needs saving himself.
Given the title, cell phones don’t really play a big part.
No one buys that the yellow jacket man is still alive.
Kelly wonders how many people have disappeared in these woods.
Story 2: When I Was Big – A child psychologist discovers a strange connection with a young patient through his childhood books.
Misty S. doesn’t understand why the bookshop employee didn’t help find the books. Misty M. knows she just isn’t paid enough.
Tiffany thinks the bookstore would tell this story to drum up publicity.
Story 3: The Greedy Investor – After greedy relators are cursed by an elderly tenant, they find that closing a deal is more difficult than they thought.
Claire buys this story. Grandchildren could easily return and buy the home.
Tiffany feels the one thing that’s not fact is this woman being with this “frog” man.
Story 4: Seven Hours Of Bad Luck – After breaking a mirror, a woman decides not to clean it up, and finds herself facing hours of bad luck.
No one understands why she tried to put out a fire with a bathrobe.
Turns out Tiffany only owns one t-shirt.
Story 5: The Secret Of The Coins – After doing a good deed, a pizza delivery man receives a tip, which turns out to be worth more than it seems.
Claire thinks the playground is a good reason for the story to get out.
This could be a case of the complicated theory.
Part 3 of our Ouija experience:
Chris warns Jesse not to bring a Ouija into their apartment.
Kyle and Jesse go on an adventure to find a Ouija.
The story results are revealed.
The hosts go into a “detailed” discussion about Beanie Babies.
Plugs abound!

#34 Uncomplicated playtime [S4E2]
Sep 18, 2018
The group discusses Frake’s use of illusions in the intro. Does he come up with them himself? They reminisce about Fox’s Breaking The Magician’s Code. And discover it was Valentino all along!
Story 1: Writer’s Agent—a slimy literature agent is haunted by a deceased client after he publishes her book.
Tiffany thinks maybe the whole thing was a sting by the police, including a phony book signing.
Kyle said he’s more or less played this scenario out in a game called Crack The Case.
Chris doesn’t believe any bit of this.
Story 2: Crypt Ghost—three kids find themselves in over their heads when they sneak into a cemetery to make a movie.
Jesse thinks the found footage element is just the writers ripping off The Blair Witch Project.
Tiffany thinks it sounds like an urban legend that kids could have believed in and then told.
Chris explains that ghostly markings are common and are on his list of The Ghostly Rules.
Story 3: The Doll—when Susan finally becomes an elementary school teacher she realizes one of the students may be someone from her past.
Kyle and Chris debate reincarnation.
Jesse and Tiffany don’t understand how this story got out. It’s a one-source story.
Story 4: Hubert’s Curse—when a construction worker doesn’t take a curse seriously, something strange starts happening to the tools.
The group thinks the ties to Merlin and the roundtable are ridiculous.
None of the hosts believe the curse is real, but they believe the carpenters believe it is.
Story 5: Shared Vision—a mysterious nurse diagnoses a sick child when all other hope is lost.
The group debates the supernatural logic. Is it a physic story, a ghost story, or a guardian angel story?
Jesse points out the writers are getting smart and tricked us by introducing the other elements first.
Tiffany thinks the nurse just noticed other subtle symptoms that the doctor missed.
Part 2 of our Ouija Adventure:
Chris and Mark decide to research Ouija boards by playing a game called Ouija or Noja. Real one-star reviews of Ouija boards are mixed in with fake ones, and it’s up to Kyle and Jesse to separate fact from fiction.
The story results are revealed.

#33 The journey of the ouija [S4E1]
Sep 11, 2018
This is the season 4 premiere! And apparently it’s already Chris’s favorite season… Kyle’s loving it too. The stories this season look like they’re shot with more cinematic direction. The group misses Don Lafontaine’s opening voiceover. There’s now a new voice to Beyond Belief, and that man’s name is Campbell Lane. There’s also so much Jonathan Frakes that Kyle feels like he’s in Frake-ception.
Story 1: The Devil’s Signature—after being found not guilty in court, a man admits to killing his wife, but then karma catches up to him when he slips and gets impaled by a pen.
Tiffany wonders how this story would even get out.
Kyle’s on the “it seems so possible” bandwagon.
Everyone pretends to be in the South for a minute.
Story 2: Mail Order Degree—a scam artist gets his comeuppance when a voodoo doll portends his death. Turns out, the place he hides his money causes him to get deadly radiation poisoning.
Mark forgot that the voodoo doll was part of the story.
If the guy dies because of radiation poisoning from the nearby radiology department, Chris wonders what the people who work IN the radiology department look like.
Mark compares this slow death to the transformation in the movie “The Fly.”
Kyle’s problem is the lead component. What?
Is this Beyond Belief’s first body horror story? No.
Chris locks in the wrong vote!
Story 3: The News Stand—a homeless kid gets assistance from a news stand owner, who later dies & passes along the business to the kid. The kid then finds out it was his biological father.
The group criticizes Chris for basing his predictions on past episodes. What’s wrong with that?
Tiffany points out that the 15-year-old kid plays Steve in Showtime’s Shameless. Meanwhile, Chris thought he looked like “Malcolm in the Middle of a Garbage Can.”
Jesse thinks the dad might just be lying about being his father. Chris and Mark think this can get complicated.
Story 4: The Murder of Roy Hennessey—two teens witness a murder… and realize that it happened two years prior.
Finally Chris can bring in some Ghostly Rules into this show! …And he might also have a really obviously fake book coming out about it.
Jesse wonders why the ghost of the victim didn’t just tell authorities two years ago.
Story 5: Mysterious Strangers—two mysterious strangers encounter and old woman and change the course of her life forever.
Kyle admits that he didn’t know Frank James (brother of Jesse James) was real… then everyone else admits they didn’t know either.
Tiffany points out that we all thought Zerelda was going to turn out to be evil. Jesse agrees, pointing out that her campy acting made her seem disingenuous. Kyle had a coven of witches flashback.
Jesse brings up the kernel of truth: “Did anyone else think this was a prequel to The Legend of Zerelda: A Bank to the Past…?” Mark and Jesse nerd out over Zelda’s lullaby.
Mark and Jesse discuss: who told this story? Mark thinks that this story was talked about on the news. Jesse pushes back: THE NEWS? Was Walter Cronkite reporting on train robberies?
Tiffany thinks this story stems from a family folk tale.
In this episode we begin our Journey of the Ouiji.
The story results are revealed.

#32 The anomaly [S3E13]
Aug 07, 2018
This is the season 3 finale! Will Mark win season three as he has with the previous two seasons? Will Chris get all five stories correct, as he’s never done in the history of this show?
Story 1: The Dealer—a shady blackjack dealer discovers the cards are stacked against him when a soldier sits down at his table.
Jesse doesn’t understand why the ghost would go through with this elaborate plan #GMEP
Chris doesn’t buy that the ghost would wait decades to come back and seek his revenge.
Story 2: Gratuity—a cab driver installs an insult machine for people who do not tip well, but fate steps in alongside a particular passenger.
The group discusses the pros and cons of tipping.
Everyone is surprised why this man isn’t fired.
Story 3: The Cake—a baker witnesses a frightening premonition after a mobster orders him to bake a special cake.
It’s very possible that this is just based on a mob hit.
Kyle thinks the baker is just stressed due to his dealings with the mob.
Story 4: 1st Time Offender—when a boy is arrested for theft, the judge lets him off with a warning, but only until a moment that’s beyond belief changes his mind.
This could just be a coincidence-based story.
Kyle thinks maybe this happened a long time ago.
Story 5: The Mirror of Truth—a beautician curses a vain woman, causing her to appear hideous.
Could be a psychological issue.
Could be a story that takes place in a different time.
Could be ripped off from The Twilight Zone.
The story results are revealed.
Chris is a statistical anomaly.
To find out which stories are fact and which are fiction… you must listen to the podcast, or check out the full episode below or on Amazon Prime.
The Season 3 results are revealed.
Chris wins season 3! And the coin is a close second.

#31 Why would you say no to the guac? [S3E12 with James Mastraieni]
Jul 31, 2018
This week comedian James Mastraieni joins us in the studio. He performs regularly at The Upright Citizens Brigade and has a podcast called I’m Too Effing High. He’s not really a believer in the supernatural but shares a story about a maybe haunted drum set?
Story 1: The Handyman—after a cheating husband kills his wife, her spirit comes back for revenge in a “creative” way.
Mark wonders if it’s too fiction too be fiction, or if that theory is just thrown out the window.
James believes this could happen, but not the way they told it.
It’s revealed Mark has watched Faces of Death, and is horrible for it.
Story 2: Anatole—an elderly man brought to prison kills his cellmate and then mysteriously escapes.
Tiffany doesn’t know how this story gets out if the cop said he never turned the old man in.
The group wonders how much you can do when you astral project.
Story 3: Makeup Magic—a woman, who feels self-conscious about her appearance, is given a makeover by a mysterious woman.
Everyone agrees this story is a bit sexist.
Chris doesn’t buy that the “guardian angel” would be timid.
Story 4: Screwdriver—when a son moves to college and finds himself in danger, he’s helped by a mysterious and familiar good samaritan.
James is more interested in what’s going on between the mother and the son.
Chris thinks Finding Nemo is based on this story.
The group thinks this is a coincidence-based story.
Story 5: Charlie—a man turns his luck around with the help of a bathroom attendant.
James is infuriated with this story – why is it all about the guy?
No one knows who could corroborate the story.
The story results are revealed.
Chris misses out yet again on guessing all the stories correctly. Moving ever closer to becoming a statistical anomaly…

#30 Don’t Wake Deadbeat Daddy [S3E11]
Jul 24, 2018
Story 1: Deadbeat Dad—a cheating gambler who wants nothing to do with his ex-wife and son, sees his run luck out caused by a mysterious woman.
Jesse points out the loop group/background noise is ridiculous in this story.
Story 2: Ghost Town—a photographer lost in the desert stumbles into an old ghost town, but soon realizes he may actually be in the old west.
Chris points out that the time period of this story is actually before the old west time began.
The group debates whether one person telling this story is enough proof.
The group realizes this of similar structure as The Wizard of Oz.
Kyle thinks it was a drug deal gone bad. Then this guy made up the story to get the cops off him.
Story 3: The Sewing Machine—when a man tries to sell his grandma’s sewing machine, it starts acting up on its own in shocking ways.
The group argues whether the dress just appeared, was made by the sewing machine, or was found by the machine?
Jesse feels this is a case of the complicated theory.
Mark argues that MGM wouldn’t let the costume designer take the costumes home with her.
The group realizes that most times there are possessed inanimate objects in Beyond Belief, it turns out to be fact.
Story 4: The Sleepwalker—a dad suffering from sleepwalking vanishes one night, only to turn up in an unbelievable place.
Jesse thinks the dad was just having an affair and used sleepwalking as an excuse to escape his family.
Story 5: Money Laundry—a woman, about to be kicked out of her apartment, has a run in with some thugs who might actually turn her luck around.
The group thinks this one sounds like a coincidence.
The story results are revealed.
Turns out the writers “exaggerated the truth” of story 3. Huh?
Everyone is shocked by the results of story 4.

#29 Dr. Seuss’s trash can [S3E10 with an 11-year-old]
Jul 17, 2018
Tiffany is out, but we have a special guest-host, 11-year-old Wolfe Yanovich! We hope he can bring a unique child’s perspective to the stories of Beyond Belief. So far he just thinks the acting is bad. Like, 90’s bad. And he’s like, right.
Story 1: Devil’s Tattoo—when a biker forces a woman to get the tattoo of the devil, something strange happens.
Wolfe thinks maybe the tattoo artist is religious/superstitious and believed that the gun worked on its own.
Jesse doesn’t believe that police would throw out this case.
Story 2: Static Man—a businessman about to close a big deal is cursed for tearing down forests.
Everyone thinks the slow-mo scene was not shot in camera, but just the actors moving really slowly. Also the protest signs weren’t very good.
Wolfe thinks this sounds like Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax. He also criticizes Frakes’s puns.
Wolfe thinks they should have cursed a congressman or something. You would get more done that way.
Maybe this is a real condition and they just created a story around it.
Story 3: The Bloody Hand—two detectives attempt to solve a bizarre murder case involving an ex-husband, a wife, an expensive necklace, and a booby-trapped coffin.
Wolfe thinks this coffin is a horrible booby-trap and questions how the detective knew everything?
Story 4: Where Have All The Heroes Gone—two young thieves get a shock while robbing the home of a recently deceased western star.
Wolfe thinks it’s ridiculous that the robbers would talk about robbing them in front of cops and fans.
Chris and Kyle think maybe their fear got the best of them, or they made up the story so they didn’t seem like cowards.
Wolfe wonders why the robbers would tell this story?
Story 5: War Surplus—a struggling college student is unnerved by a vision of a man who looks like his dead father, only to find that following the man may lead to a promising future.
Mark doesn’t believe that a used army jacket would find its way to a surplus store.
Jesse thinks maybe the kid simply made up the story.
The story results are revealed.
Wolfe got three right on his first try!

#28 Don’t let your ghost cat on the counter [S3E9]
Jul 10, 2018
The group talks about how great it would be to interview Jonathan Frakes and James Brolin for the show. Would Frakes play along and would his predictions be correct? Did he record all of his material in a single day? Would Josh Brolin be a good host for the reboot?
Story 1: For the Record—Lauren and her fiancé, born on the same day, search for the truth of their birth.
The group points out how strange the voices of the actors are.
Chris points out that the daughter’s blood type has to match her parent’s. Turns out Jesse doesn’t know his blood type.
Story 2: Halloween—old man Harold Ratcher hates Halloween, scaring away the kids each year, but someone is about to scare him back.
The group agrees this is one of the spookiest stories on Beyond Belief.
Chris doesn’t think there was anything supernatural or ghostly going on. The props get in the way of his believability.
Kyle thinks the tropey-ness makes it feel fiction. There were a lot of slasher films in the ’90s.
Story 3: Precious—A child psychiatrist is called in to help a little girl who spends a too much time with her cat. Her dead cat.
The group thinks there was just an old picture on the roll of film.
Chris tells us that his psychic heard a passing dog say “my butt hurts.” Turns out the dog had hemorrhoids; ergo animals could have psychic abilities.
Story 4: Get your kicks at Motel 66—a police officer suspended for a teen beating stops at a motel with his wife, only to be haunted by vengeful ghost.
The group thinks the kernel is that a cop killed himself in this motel.
Kyle thinks they put in the Billy the Kid element to make us think its fact.
Story 5: Phantom Drifter—on a road trip, a bickering couple pick up a hitchhiker who ends up having some sage advice.
Kyle thinks the couple actually went to a marriage/couples counseling retreat.
Jesse thinks the drifter just sounded like he was reading fortune cookies.
Chris said this segment gave him chills.
The story results are revealed.
Will Chris finally get all of the stories correct? Nope.

#27 The Help Me Help Me Ghost [S3E8]
Jul 03, 2018
Chris talks about his recent psychic reading with Marla Frees, where she explained that there are frequencies all around us that she can tap into to download info from beyond.
Story 1: Creepy Comics—after a publisher verbally abuses his comic book artist, he discovers his own fate illustrated before his very eyes.
Chris thinks he would have heard of this story if it happened. Kyle thinks this “would have heard about it” argument doesn’t fly with Beyond Belief.
Tiffany doesn’t know who told this story because both the characters died.
The group doesn’t understand why the police would have the deceased’s boss identify the body.
Story 2: Louie The Dip—a pickpocket swipes a winning lottery ticket only to discover it has mysteriously vanished.
Kyle researches the term dip. Can’t find anything, but assumes it means a pick-pocketer.
Kyle then does find the term dip and it does mean pick-pocketer.
Everyone thinks this is easily fact. Yes, you could definitely lose a piece of paper.
No one understands why the lottery winner went to the bar before cashing his ticket. Just go cash it you idiot I mean come on.
Story 3: The Wailing—when a mystery writer moves into an old house, he soon discovers an eerie wail sounding from the walls.
What’s in the safe?! Everyone wanted to know what was in the safe. Turns out, we’ll never know.
Jesse points out how horrible the wig on the corpse is.
Chris, using the ghostly rules, buys that a traumatic death could cause the spirit to be trapped in the room.
Mark Moses from Desperate Housewives and Mad Men is in this segment. No one can play unconscious like Mark Moses.
Story 4: The Landlady—a wicked landlady is haunted by an old tenant.
Jesse reminds us that spirits can haunt people in addition to places.
The practical effects of a ghost trudging through mud were pretty good.
From a ghostly rules vantage point, Chris has an issue: why would a kind tenant spend his afterlife haunting the mean old lady.
No one understands what makes this story special, and where’s the evidence?
Chris and Jesse reenact the old lady shouting match.
Story 5: Curse—a young girl dabbling in witchcraft puts a hex on her psychologist and then joins a coven… a coven in which the tables are about to get turned.
Chris thinks the psychologist put on this whole witch thing as a scam to trick the girl into letting go of being a bad witch.
Tiffany thinks it’s so crazy it has to be fiction.
The story results are revealed.

#26 You had me at haunted barbecue [S3E7]
May 15, 2018
Tiffany is back from her vacation to India. She didn’t see any ghosts though. Also she may have an infectious rash on her hand or just a henna tattoo.
Story 1: Connie—a dead woman’s spirit or essence lives on in her husband’s new wives.
Jesse wonders what happened to the other women’s spirits. Did they just get booted out? Tiffany thinks the man was murdering his wives.
Who told this story? There are no witnesses.
Jesse thinks all the women are dying from some bird disease.
Story 2: Positive I.D.—a man is accused of a robbery that he didn’t commit, only to make a shocking discovery.
This is a perfectly reasonable story. But maybe too reasonable?
Tiffany sees it as an interesting example of nature vs. nurture.
Chris tries to utilize The Southern Rule.
Story 3: Trucker—a hitchhiker gets help from a mysterious truck driver.
Kyle is a fan of stories where people get super human strength in dire moments.
Kyle points out that this story is similar to another Beyond Belief story called The Tractor (which was fiction).
Tiffany thought Big Joe was the hitchhiker’s future self trying to teach him a lesson.
Chris dives into the ghostly rules: he doesn’t think a ghost can drive a vehicle. “Sounds like angel territory.”
Story 4: Cook Out—a dead relative’s grill saves lives at a family bbq.
Everyone agrees this is now the craziest story of Beyond Belief.
This could be a case of TFTBF.
Maybe the writers just elaborated the BBQ going crazy moment.
Story 5: The New House—a spirit intervenes when a fire starts in a new family’s home.
Tiffany thought it was a story about a mother’s instinct, but then it went in a wildly different direction.
Jesse thinks the info dump at the end could be the writer’s way of explaining all the factual details.
Kyle hoped the woman in the painting would have been moving around, Harry Potter style.
The story results are revealed:
The group plans on taking a mid season break, but agree thus far season 3 has been one wild ride.

#25 The Beyond Belief Cinematic Universe [S3E6 with Mohamad el Masri]
May 08, 2018
Chris is out for this episode, but in his place we have guest host Mohamad el Masri, who is a writer on HBO’s Here And Now. Mohamad wants to believe in the supernatural but ultimately comes at things with a scientific approach.
Story 1: Red Line—a reckless race car driver gets a warning from beyond the grave.
Mohamad wonders if the speedway is haunted. Jesse believes that ghosts can haunt people in addition to places. If only Chris were he to answer that question…
Maybe the heat and the fumes caused the driver to hallucinate.
Story 2: Two Sisters—a woman marries her dead sister’s husband, only to discover something strange with the wedding dress.
It’s a logistical nightmare for the sister to switch clothes with her dead sister in the middle of the funeral floor.
The dress may have been un-wearable after the morticians fixed it to the dead body.
Story 3: Eclipse—on the eve of a full moon, a prisoner believing he is a werewolf asks to be placed in a room with no windows.
#23 Ghosts, who dat? [S3E4 with Claire Berger & Christian Honce]
Apr 24, 2018
Usual hosts Tiffany and Mark are out, but we have two guest hosts: returning champ/actor Claire Berger and screenwriter Christian Honce. Claire stars in a new movie Bad Exorcist available on iTunes or anywhere you watch cool movies. Christian explains that since he was a child he has nightmares literally every night. One in particular is about his mom with a creepy glowing figure behind her. Recently when visiting his mom, this vision came back to him and he grabbed her right before she backed up over their dog, nearly falling… fact or fiction?
Story 1: E-Mail—A couple buys a used computer and starts receiving mysterious emails from someone trapped in a tomb.
Jesse is yet again frustrated that there are so many female short haircuts.
Claire doesn’t understand why the story doesn’t focus more on husband’s unhealthy obsessed with the computer. Feels writery.
Jesse is annoyed that it’s never explained how the trapped man communicated with the new owners.
Christian thinks the man in the tomb was just emailing via a Blackberry.
Story 2: Blood Donor—after receiving a blood transfusion, a man finds that he can see murders as they happen.
Chris believes that if you hold onto a loved one’s possession after they’ve passed away you can often times connect with the them.
Jesse has a theory – he thinks the man who saved the woman was actually the murderer all along.
Christian thinks maybe the man is the murderer who has just repressed his memories.
Claire thinks there should be records of the blood transfusion if this is fact.
The group dissects the choice of naming a laptop a Renzlo Power 700.
Story 3: Epitaph—a gravestone craftsman is given orders to create an elaborate gravestone for a dead man against the wife’s wishes.
Jesse feels this is another case of Ghosts Make Elaborate Plans.
What’s the kernel of truth? Christian thinks it’s shady people taking advantage of people in emotional distress—the stone carver is so good at handwriting (since he does it for a living) that he forges the paperwork.
Quote of the story: “You know they say it’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind.” No one says that.
The southerner’s theory: Christian believes that if you change the characters to southerners, it can go a long way to explain how certain stories could have happened.
Story 4: Stitches in Time—a woman down on her luck has an odd dream of when her mother and her made a quilt together.
Jesse doesn’t understand why the grandmother would stuff a quilt with money and not tell anyone.
Claire argues that she is a woman who wants people to work hard and earn what they deserve.
Christian explains that if the money was in the quilt it would make noise when they used it.
Story 5: Soldier—a soldier in Vietnam is rescued from death by a strange man who turns out to be more than he seems.
Christian believes he’s heard this story before. But does that mean that it’s more likely fact or fiction? And is it possible it’s just an urban legend?
The group thinks maybe he had his dad’s dog tags the whole time and was just trying to impress a cute nurse.
For the most part, historical stories are fact based. Will it hold up?
Break: This week we play a game called TALL TALE TOMBSTONES, where we’re tasked to guess which bizarre tombstones are real and which are made up.
The story results are revealed:

#22 The Lesco Desco connection [S3E3]
Apr 17, 2018
Turns out music doesn’t play a big part in Kyle’s life, but he like Phil Collins. Mark wants to redo his intro. And the group ponders why you always see only one shoe on a highway.
Story 1: The Find—a newlywed couple run across an old motorcycle with a cursed past.
Mark wonders if pool/billiards stories are urban legends.
Jesse thinks there are too many strange layers to this story.
Story 3: The FBI Story—a small town cop with dreams of becoming an FBI agent mysteriously goes missing.
Chris thinks the realistic version is that the man just snuck into the bog to elude police, but did a bad job of it and just drowned.
No one knows if peat moss can preserve a body. Research after the episode reveals: oh yeah, “bog body” is a thing.
Some think it’s the ol’ complicated theory.
Story 4: The Gravedigger’s Nemesis—a cruel gravedigger is haunted by woman’s eerie song.
Everyone aggress this was a creepy one.
There’s no witnesses to this story.
Chris thinks it sounds like a convenient ghost story.
Story 5: Last Rites—a woman randomly steps into a funeral where no one else showed up and is questioned about it later.
Most think this is a very plausible story.
Jesse wonders why they needed to clarify the coffin as a funeral coffin.
Break: We ask the folks of Beyond Belief Fact Or Fiction to perform their talents in our first annual Beyond Beyond Belief’s Got Talent!
The story results are revealed:
Jesse voted all fact and got three out of five right!
Mark wonders if there’s always three facts per story (there are not).

#21 Stop saying Willem Dafoe [S3E2]
Apr 10, 2018
Turns out no one knows know how pawn shops work. Jesse points out that in season 3, Jonathan Frakes doesn’t do intro lines before the opening credits. No one else seems to care.
Story 1: One For The Road—a truck driver meets a friend at their usual spot, only to later make a chilling discovery.
Jesse points out that if this was pre-Sixth Sense, we would have all been blown away.
Mark thought all the set-ups revealing Hal was a ghost could have just been due to production issues.
Chris dives into the ghostly rules and wonders when exactly did Hal die?
Mark decides to go with a strategy this episode: supernatural = fiction/coincidence = fact.
Story 2: The Music Box—a woman wanting to buy a music box discovers something even more unexpected in the shop.
The group agrees this story doesn’t handle women well.
Tiffany thinks the story probably originated from a wedding announcement or engagement story that gets passed around.
If the friend Gale set the whole thing up, then it’s not a beyond belief story at all.
Jesse points out that Frakes is more aggressive with potential realistic possibilities in season 3.
Story 3: Two to One—a man strapped for cash has a dream of a robbery gone wrong at a pawn shop he frequents.
The group discusses how pawn shops work.
Chris believes in premonition. Mark believes we can dream the future.
Tiffany doesn’t know who can corroborate the man’s story. But what else is new?
Story 4: Damsel—when a woman visits a fortune teller in the search for Mr. Right, she learns that appearances can be deceiving.
Jesse and Mark believe this is all a scam set up by the psychic.
Tiffany doesn’t understand why someone would want to start a relationship after a violent encounter. Kyle points out the movie Speed as an obvious counter argument.
After talking about Willem Dafoe, Kyle cannot stop laughing for some reason.
Story 5: The Horn—a mortician visits an antique dealer and discovers a special item called a death horn, which may just save one of their lives.
Jonathan Frakes thinks the horn could have been blown by air from the AC. Really, Jonathan?
Chris points out old coffins that had bells attached for accidental deaths.
The group wonders if there was sexual tensions between the two leads.
Break: This week Chris tries to tell Mark about his fascinating experience with a psychic, but is interrupted by a mysterious sound.
The story results are revealed.
Turns out Mark’s coincidence theory worked!

#20 Crybaby bridge [S3E1]
Apr 03, 2018
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction season 3, episode 1! We are back with our season three premiere, baby! At the top of this episode we tweeted out for people to call in and whoever calls first gets to chat with us on the air! The group feels season three is darker and just plain crazier than before. And of course, Jonathan Frakes is as amazing and handsome as always.
Story 1: Morning Sickness—a woman has all the symptoms of pregnancy, but the tests say she’s not. Soon the doctors will make a shocking discovery.
Frakes explained this story could have been suppressed by the medical community for years. Which makes zero sense.
Kyle unfortunately brings up that spiders can bite people and sometimes lay their eggs inside the bite. Mark then equally unfortunately looks up pictures of said spider bites filled with eggs. Tiffany is horrified. Jesse would like to point out that this is an urban legend.
THEN… WE GET A CALL. It’s Seth from Oklahoma (who we “offended” in an earlier episode when we made fun of Oklahoma. But it turns out Seth just likes when Oklahoma is mentioned.)
Seth explains that he’s a huge fan of the original show, and actually heard of the podcast when Chris stalked a tweet he posted about the show years ago.
Seth decides to play along for this story, and remembers it being an urban legion = FICTION.
We ask Seth if he has his own personal Beyond Belief story. He explains his town had a “haunted” bridge that was near a mental institution where a woman gave birth to a child. The doctors took the baby away and drowned it in the creek under the bridge. At night you can hear crying under the bridge. He explains this was an urban legend and the sound of the car on the bridge would make a whining sound that could be mistaken for a child’s wail. Turns out this is a common urban legend called Crybaby Bridge.
Seth tells us he hopes all the new love for the original show spawns a reboot. We hope so too, Seth!
After Seth hangs up we all have to decide if we can trust his memory of this story.
Story 2: The Curse of Hampton Manor—after a greedy woman sells a cursed house to a couple, it’s returned back to her… but at a terrible cost.
Jesse points out a yet another short haircut.
Kyle recaps the episode, pointing out in the outro that Frakes mentions they’ve changed all the names and locations in this story, but then goes on to inform us it was based on the true story of the Helmsley family who bought a house in the 80’s and were bestowed with a horrible fortune.
Tiffany loved the structure of this story. Jesse would have rather seen more of the family’s experience versus the real estate agent’s.
Kyle wonders if this is just a simple coincidence.
Story 3: Wax Executioner—a woman is nearly beheaded in a wax museum, and the only apparent suspect is a executioner made of wax.
Jesse points out the ridiculous costume of the painter.
Jesse wonders where the supernatural source of the story is: cursed wax, a trapped soul, etc. As is, there’s no “beyond belief” motive.
Kyle points out similar movies: House of Wax and Waxwork. Which could make this fiction.
Story 4: Blood Bank—when a nurse treats an odd patient, someone breaks into the hospital and steals blood.
At the end they explain that they never told this story because the hospital didn’t want bad publicity. There was a VAMPIRE IN YOUR HOSPITAL!
The nurse also said “maybe he was pretending to be a vampire because his crime would then go unreported.” Which, honestly, is a ridiculous strategy. Why would he think that this would make it go unreported?
Kyle remembers when a girl told him she wanted to cut his chest and suck his blood. Hmm.
Mark thinks this is way too crazy to not be true.
Turns out vampires are our 4th biggest listenership.
Story 5: Ring Toss—a crooked con artist tricks kids out of money in ring toss, until an old man wins every time.
Tiffany points out the POV is only from the dead carny. So who told this story?
Mark thinks the kernel of truth is much simpler.
Jesse thinks a crooked carny could have easily died at a carnival. He also thinks this story should be called “Conman Carnival.” Not bad.
Break: This week Chris and Mark had to sit down with the Beyond Beyond Belief HR Department to discuss their inappropriate behavior.
The story results are revealed.

#19 I’m Robert Tralins and I approve this message [S2E13]
Feb 27, 2018
“Take your escalators and the get the fuck out.”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 2, episode 13. This is our podcast season 2 finale! We get excited for our season finale statistics and talk about the impact the podcast is having on the Beyond Belief universe. The show is now on Amazon Prime! Just saying.
Story 1: The Warning—a man receives a warning from a mysterious coffin salesman.
Chris doesn’t understand the coffin salesman’s motivations… is he trying to kill or save lives. Jesse thinks he’s making elaborate plans. Kyle thinks ghosts can have fun too.
Another case of “where’s their Phantom billboard”—why weren’t the other people in the elevator saved by a mysterious coffin salesman? What did they ever do to anyone?
The group doesn’t believe elevator accidents happen often. Turns out people have .00000015 chance of dying in elevators. 27 people die a year in the US due to elevators.
Story 2: Bus Stop—when a lovesick man meets the woman of his dreams, he soon discovers things aren’t what they seem.
Tiffany thinks Jerry is a stalker and made up this whole lie to meet the sister (what a Jesse theory).
Chris points that the Terry was dressed in all white, which (SPOILER ALERT) tiped him off that she was a ghost.
The group analyzes the friend who dropped a donut and then ate it.
Story 3: The Cure—a young waiter eager to prove himself to the parents of his girlfriend gets his wish in an unconventional way.
Everyone loved the character Kyle #2 when he stood up to his girlfriend.
Tiffany thinks if this was written the writers would have made it a little more interesting.
Turns out Chris is voting with his dick.
Story 4: The Guardian—a kid being bullied at the basketball courts is saved by a man who claims to have never been there.
Jesse thinks Big Al is just messing with the kids. Mark thinks maybe Big Al killed the bullies and had to lie about it.
Kyle thinks this sounds like an urban legend.
Story 5: The Gift—when an elderly woman tells her caregiver to choose one of her possessions, the caregiver makes a shocking discovery.
Tiffany comes in at 58%. The only host who has improved.
Mark comes in at 60 %—he’s our reigning camp! Well, unless you count THE GUEST HOSTS, who come in at an average 61%.
Season 2 wrap up.
The group agrees season is a more engaging season. They’re having more fun, there’s a bigger budget, and of course there’s Jonathan Frakes and his puns.
Chris remembers his favorite episode – Angel on Board. Kyle recalls his favorite – Count Mystery.
The group their favorite detective – Detective Puma. And their favorite villain – the red eyed creature.

#18 Tommy Wiseau with Kevin Sorbo’s Haircut [S2E12]
Feb 20, 2018
“No one knows what happens next, but this story of Beyond Belief is fact!”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction season 2, episode 12. There is a theme in this episode—a touch of evil! Chris has a strong feeling he will get a 100% of the stories correct this episode.
Story 1: Merry-Go-Round—a merry-go-round with a cursed past is resurrected in a small town, but the curse isn’t quite done yet…
Everyone thinks this story could have totally happened. Chris thinks the most unbelievable part of the story is that characters thought they actually make money off a merry-go-around.
Tiffany thinks there was enough people to corroborate the story. Yeah, there was an entire press junket.
Mark wants to know where the paraplegic man with the poison pump is?
Story 2: Red Eyed Creature—after a family moves into their new house, they begin to sense an evil presence.
The group points out how similar the nanny in this story is to Mrs. Doubtfire.
No one understands the ending. #whotoldthisstory
Mark thought that the grandma would turn out to be a satanist, using the child as a conduit for a demon.
#17 Dear Flight People [S2E11 with Chuck Hayward]
Feb 13, 2018
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 2, episode 11. Kyle is out but we have a special guest host: Chuck Hayward! Chuck is a writer on the Netflix series Dear White People and wrote the feature films Fat CampandStep Sisters. Chuck believes statistically that there must be life on other planets. He also states that energy cannot be created nor destroyed, ergo ghosts exist. This week’s episode is disaster themed! We’re also drinking tequila.
Story 1: Bon Voyage
One unsuspecting couple just jumped out of the frying pan and onto the Hindenburg.
How did this story get told? Did the couple survive somehow, or maybe someone on the Hindenburg overheard this story? Chuck thinks the rings melded back together in the wreckage.
Chuck doesn’t believe the story, but then remembers the film series Final Destination. So maybe?
Tiffany doesn’t buy that the writers would come up with the rings melding together. Chris doesn’t understand why people don’t travel in blimps anymore.
Story 2: The Man In The Model T
Rip Taylor guests stars in Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction as Elmo P. Middleton!
Rip Taylor guest stars. He is known for his habit of “showering himself and others in confetti.”
Chris loves guardian angel stories and notes this could be the first Beyond Belief story with an openly gay character.
The group points out the Northridge earthquake reference, which was just a clever red herring. Tiffany thinks they just didn’t have an earthquake in the production budget.
Story 3: The Scoop
What what you know. Or what you dream I guess?
Tiffany wishes she was rewarded by all the power naps she’s taken.
The group doesn’t believe the journalist would be able to predict the native name of the island.
Chuck thinks no true writer would leave a short story they wrote just lying around in a typewriter in a busy office. You guard that shit.
Chris thinks the writers are trying to trick everyone by making it a period piece.
Story 4: Angel on Board
This shit is scary.
The group loves this story.
Chris wants to believe it so much that he’s going fact, but, at the same time, thinks we would have heard this story if it happened.
Chuck loves that there was a black man in first class and a black stewardess warned the woman.
Story 5: Buenos Dias
Nobody really likes this story. Probably because there’s a parrot.
Tiffany thinks the parrot actually makes it seem more true, because why would the writers put an unnecessary parrot in when the story was already beyond belief at that point?
Chuck doesn’t understand why the parrot didn’t just fly away. And why isn’t he dirty?
This episode we play a game called FLIGHT OR FICTION! Tiffany and Jesse listen to one star reviews for airlines and decide which are real and which were made up by Chris and Mark.
The story results are revealed
To find out which stories are fact and which are fiction… you must listen to the podcast, or check out the full episode below or on Amazon Prime!
The show name drops Jay Leno and Elvis—does that make it more legitimate?
Tiffany thinks it may just be an urban legend.
Story 2: Blind Man’s Dog—a blind man discovers his seeing eye dog can sense when people will die, but some people don’t see this as a gift.
The group points out an awful special effect, looks like a gelatinous ’80s version of the The Matrix’sbullet time effect.
Kyle thinks animals have extra mysterious senses. Jesse points out that cats will often lay on older people before they pass away… but realistically likely because the cats are attracted to the heat that dying people people give off.
Chris thinks the most unrealistic part of this story is how people always die exactly one hour after the dog howls.
Story 3: Deer Hunters—when two hunters break into a Native American reservation, they come across a mysterious deer.
Chris points out that they use the term Indian and not native American in this episode.
Tiffany is conflicted by the presence of the cop. Could it be true then? Jesse thinks that makes it even less believable since a cop is less likely to witness such a unrealistic scenario.
Chris isn’t sure if this is fact or fiction: “I’m on the fence that those guys belew right through.”
Story 4: Tribal Curse–A college student studying native tribe, interferes with one of the most sacred funeral rituals.
Chris thinks the tribe murdered the student.
Chris tries to apply the Ghostly Rules, but nothing adds up. A ghost cannot go into a crow’s body and kill a human.
The group points out the amazingly epic crow vs. man chase scene.
Jesse and Kyle think the crow wasn’t possessed, but instead simply went crazy and killed the kid.
It’s revealed that crows are our bigger listenership.
The group points out the unnaturally loud waterfall.
Story 5: The Card Game–a poker cheater is put to the test when the hangman comes to town.
No one understands the M. Night Shyamalan twist. Do they just dress up like cowboys on Tuesdays? Kyle thought it would have made more sense if they were on a movie set.
Jesse is surprised that this cheater never loses a hand. Tiffany points out that he plays only tourists, so he can continue to cheat without getting caught.
Chris tries to use the Ghostly Rules, but this one is just doesn’t make sense.
Jesse points out the ghost energy meter would have to be so full in order for a ghost to play a game of poker. Not buying it.
Advertisement: this week’s episode is brought to you by Gary’s Animal Rental.
The story results are revealed.
Chris tries desperately to hold onto his 60% average… which he doesn’t. Maybe he should take notes next time? Tiff got 100% percent, however!

#15 Five Guys Burgers & Lies [S2E9 with Tom Bensinger]
Jan 30, 2018
“I don’t believe any story that contains the phrase ‘boating accident.'”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 2, episode 9. Tiffany is out, but we have a guest host: Tom Bensinger! Tom talks about his supernatural experiences… none. But he’s heard stories from friends… which he doesn’t trust because he thinks humans are just morons and will believe anything. He is a big fan of ’90s supernatural television and watched Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction back in the day.
Story 1: Rock & Roll Ears—A retired guitarist suffering from hearing loss has a “shocking” discovery when teen thugs show up to his store.
Chris points out that you can’t get your hearing back once the ear follicles have died. So maybe it’s a blockage?
Tom points out there have been people who jumped out of planes and regained sight. There’s many stories of people regaining a lost sense after a traumatic event.
Chris thinks it’s a super human origin story. Mark wonders what his name is—the super hearer? Mega ears?
Jesse can’t buy the teenagers coming back for revenge with a retrofitted music van.
Story 2: The Bucket—A seemingly possessed milk bucket leads a family to a dairy farmer in the nick of time.
Chris applies the ghostly rules—why would the universe posses a milk bucket to save an elderly man? Kyle points out that the bucket was shaking the night before, so how long was this old man stranded?
Mark thinks the milk bucket was simply knocked over and they had to get it filled.
Tom points out, “he’s an elderly man working alone on a farm, what are the odds he’s not having a heart attack?”
Kyle thinks it could just be a faulty bucket.
Story 3: The Bridesmaid—When a hopeless romantic goes on a blind date, she discovers the man is someone from her past.
Kyle thinks there would be documentation, i.e., a marriage license that would link the man to his wife. Chris points out that people with amnesia often can’t be placed because they don’t have documentation on them.
Tom thinks the man was just lying to get out of the marriage because he’s a sociopath who just pretended to have amnesia.
Chris thinks the girl should have not told his sister and continued dating him.
Kyle thinks it may be the first Beyond Belief amnesia story. Hopefully one of many.
Jesse thinks it’s too tropey.
Tom doesn’t believe any story with the phrase “boating accident.”
Story 4: Voice from the Grave—A woman channels the spirit of a dead nurse to help solve her gruesome murder.
The group agrees that this episode is very confusing.
Applying ghostly rules, Chris has heard of people being possessed to relay information, but the rest is too convoluted. Could it be a case of The Complicated Theory?
Jesse thinks the sting operation seems way too risky to be true. Kyle points out that the detective’s back up is a doctor and not another officer.
Story 5: The Chess Game—Two old friends play chess every night. After one passes away, their game doesn’t stop.
Chris asks “where’s this old man’s milk jug?” Why did he have to die? He’s never heard of a story where someone interacts with a ghost the same way every day.
Jesse doesn’t know how this story gets told and not confirmed. People would come to watch if this happens every night. Tom points out that the Annabelle/Conjuringuniverse was built on even less proof.
Kyle thinks the old man just moves the pieces himself (denial) and his wife just went along with it (enabling).
Chris doesn’t understand how everyone knows what Bay Rum is.
Tom points out that the old man’s name is “Chester.” Chess. Chester. Come on!
Advertisement: this week’s episode is brought to you by… baby gates? It can keep away haunted milk jugs.
The story results are revealed.
When revealed that the bridesmaid is true, the group debates the possibility of a twin. Would you date your dead husband’s twin?
There are four facts in a row. It’s rare, but it happens folks.

#14 I will not be destroyed by a chair! [S2E8 with Max La Bella]
Jan 23, 2018
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 2, episode 8. Kyle is out, but we welcome guest host Max La Bella. Max talks about his new horror film on Netflix, Demonic. He also remembers that his family used to watch Beyond Belief, but he was too afraid to.
Story 1: Kirby–A Hollywood executive meets a mysterious fate after making fun of a life-size animatronic gorilla.
The group points out how good the animatronics are. Mark thinks it’s a man in a gorilla suit.
If this story actually happened, they would have heard about it. Chris points out that everyone knows about the helicopter accident on the set of Twilight Zone: The Movie. Max thinks maybe the gorilla just tipped over onto the boss.
No one knows who witnessed this story. How would people come to this conclusion? Max thinks this could have happened and the story just spiraled out of control.
Story 2: Dust–When two boys help a girl into get into her locked house, they return the next day to discover the house has been abandoned for 20 years.
Where was the surprise? There was no attempt to hide that girl was a ghost.
No one knows how this story gets told.
Story 3: Malibu Cop–A detective investigating a murder case begins to suffer from vivid nightmares, which leads him to a shocking discovery.
Jesse points out that this is very similar to police procedural shows, complete with the kooky lab tech obsessed with his tuna sandwich.
Chris points out that he says tuna fish, not tuna. The group debates this, until they realize they are wasting time.
Tiffany thinks this story could get around because there are so many witnesses.
Max thinks it’s a case of TFTBF—too fiction to be fiction, (not to be confused with TFTBF—too fact to be fact).
Story 4: A Joyful Noise–A church choir running late for rehearsals discovers their tardiness is a blessing in disguise.
Everyone loves this story. It’s simple and elegant.
If it was divine intervention, Max doesn’t understand why God wouldn’t just turn of the gas valve.
The group points out that this a coincidence-based story, so it could have easily happened.
Mark points out that it’s the old IIFGIF—if it feels good, it’s fact.
Story 5: The Hooded Chair—An art collector gets more than he bargained for when he receives an antique chair with a dark past.
The group points out a great line from this story: “I will not be destroyed by a chair!”
Tiffany thinks the whole painting of Napoleon feels writery.
Jesse doesn’t understand where the curse originally came from, but “can two people die after sitting in a chair, sure.”
The group points out that the plane crash was sourced from an older episode.

#13 Ten thousand Beyond Belief dollars [S2E7]
Jan 16, 2018
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 2, episode 7. Kyle and the gang agree that this episode was particularly good, though Kyle doesn’t quite know what a creepy noise sounds like, or what jelly sounds like. Jesse admits he doesn’t have a good grasp on the stories this week. Chris asks off air, “Do you guys write down fact or fiction ahead of time?” Kyle doesn’t. Tiffany does. Mark usually writes “fact” for all the stories ahead of time; Jesse usually writes “fiction”.
Story 1: The Mummy—When a Museum displays a rare mummy, a mysterious murder begins to unravel.
Kyle points out that the mummy’s body is never recovered, so why didn’t the killer just hide the murder victim where they hid the mummy’s body.
Jesse wonders if there’s a certain cost for ghosts to visit us from the afterlife. Why couldn’t the ghost show them where the mummy is?
The group realizes that all their knowledge of mummies is from The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser.
Chris thinks this must be real because if it were fiction the writers would have written about the actual mummy more.
Story 2: The Perfect Record—A security guard with a perfect record trains a new employee, but some records are meant to be broken.
Chris has a great reason for this to be fact: if it was fiction, why didn’t the writers have the security guard use his telekinesis to lock the robbers in the vault?
Turns out the only one who believes in telekinesis is Kyle. Chris is somewhere in the middle.
Mark thinks the kernel could simply be that there was a power surge, which attracted the police.
Story 3: Grave Sitting—A girl is challenged to spend two hours alone by the grave of a serial killer.
Mark cannot remember the name of the serial killer.
No one understands why the girl needed to stab the ground.
Jesse thinks this is classic urban legend territory. Past “urban legendy” stories are usually fiction.
Story 4: Murder On The Second Floor—Eyewitness testimony at the scene of a murder points to a killer who’s 18 feet tall.
Kyle and Chris question the giant’s shoes. Was a large shoe faked to create a footprint, or was it really a giant with his own cobbler?
Tiffany doesn’t think this story feels like a classic Before Belief story. There’s no mysterious question, it’s just… “here’s what we think might have happened.”
Jesse doesn’t know who told this story. Would the cop who had a wild hunch but no real drive to actually solve the crime really tell other people?
Story 5: They Towed My Car—A mysterious outsider wonders a town looking for his car.
Jesse reveals this is his favorite title for a Beyond Belief episode to date.
The group points out how this is essentially the story about the mummy just in a different… wrapping.
Jesse thinks witnesses could have been people in the town lying and wanting to be apart of the story.
The story results are revealed.
This is the first mention of author Robert Tralins, which is where many of the “fact” based stories are sourced from.
The crew is shocked to discover that Jonathan Frakes references one of the stories being an urban legend….

#12 Call me when your horse is psychic [S2E6 with Melissa Dunham]
Jan 09, 2018
“If you put a Roomba in the middle of Manhattan, it’s gonna find a dead body eventually.”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 2, episode 6. Tiffany is out, but we have a special guest host: Melissa Dunham, host of the podcast #Obsessed. Melissa talks about her own paranormal experiences, of which there are many! In college, she was convinced her apartment was haunted, when she heard knocking from inside the closet…
Story 1: Bright Light—A women driving on the highway is tailed by an aggressive trucker with unexpected intentions.
The group thinks this feels like an Urban Legend. Chris recounts the classic 90’s film Urban Legend.
Kyle points out that Donald Gibb plays the trucker who’s also plays Ray Jackson in Bloodsport.
Chris would have loved to see this story from the murderer-in-the-back-seat’s perspective.
If she was in the protagonist’s feet, Melissa would still not get a coffee with the truck driver.
Jesse points out a great line of dialogue for being unsettling and accurate: “I want to run out of here, but I’m going to walk out of her quietly.”
Jesse thinks this story could have easily happened, but Chris thinks it’s just an urban legend.
Story 2: Magic Mightyman—Muggers take a man’s clothes, but when he comes across a superhero halloween costume, the man finds unexpected powers.
Jesse questions the show’s referring of homeless people as “Angels of the street”?
Mark thinks it’s so bizarre that the writers could not have made it up.
Jesse doesn’t know who told this story, and why would muggers steal his clothes?
Story 3: The Student—A frustrated teacher questions her dream of teaching until a mysterious student inspires her with an essay.
Chris doesn’t understand the essay aspect. Jesse points out the ghost stories usually have some moral aspect.
The group takes a quick break to discuss the show Ally McBeal. Should Melissa watch it? Yes. And also Chris is still haunted by the dancing baby.
Applying the Ghostly Rules, Chris thinks this is in the realm of possibility. Kyle questions whether a ghost can write an essay. Jesse thinks the ghost may be affecting what the teacher is seeing.
The mystery student is played by Dante Basco who played Rufio in Hook. Melissa is upset with his agent. They could have gotten him a better job after Hook.
Story 4: Scribbles— A young child communicating in a language he’s never learned leads his mother to an answer she’s been searching for.
Kyle thinks maybe the kid learned shorthand from his dad. Mark thinks the dad is communicating with his wife from the beyond through the child.
Jesse points out Frakes’s ludicrous conclusion that the aunt was secretly implanting the short hand into the drawings to lead the mother to the safety deposit box. But then he backtracks and thinks it’s possible that the aunt and dad were having an affair.
Chris asks why the kid didn’t just use shorthand to warn his dad about his impending health problems.
Segment 5: Count Mystery—When a boy goes missing, the town turns to a psychic horse for help.
The group agrees this is very unbelievable. Melissa points out that there is an octopus that predicts sporting event outcomes.
Jesse thinks that maybe the horse trainer is a murderer and then trains the horse to solve them.
Kyle thinks that maybe the spelling aspect is fictional, but a horse did somehow find where the kid was.
Melissa wonder’s how much of the story needs to be true in this show: Jesse thinks 70%, Kyle thinks 25%.
Jesse compares the horse solving mysteries to a Roomba. If it does it enough times, eventually it will get all the dirt/solve all the murders.
Melissa thinks this is fiction, because “horses don’t know English.”

#11 Soft fiction [S2E5 with Eden Sher & Nick Cron-DeVico]
Jan 02, 2018
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 2, episode 5. Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 2, episode 6. In this week’s episode we welcome two hilarious guest hosts: The Middle star Eden Sher and Robot Chicken writer Nick Cron-DeVico. Eden and Nick share their own stories of the strange and paranormal before we launch into this week’s stories.
Story #1: The Land—a deal with a mysterious man helps save a family farm.
The group talks about costume designers getting excited about prepping condescending farm outfits.
Chris thinks the 20-year deal with the devil was far too low and he should have negotiated better terms.
Eden wonders where this mysterious devil man was found—did he randomly show up to the farm? Did they find him in the yellow pages?
Jesse ponders—did the dad just fertilize the land and leave on his own terms?
Eden wonders if the deal was actually done with the mob.
Story #2: Titan—a writer pressured to come up with a fictional story to sell discovers a talent for foresight.
Guest host Eden Sher shares that this story was her “FAVE” and summarizes it.
Nick says that this episode structure was very confusing because of the way they wrote the twist. He thought it may be taking place in an insane asylum.
Nick thinks that it’s true because he’s heard this story before, but Jesse wonders if he’s heard it before and it’s an urban legend.
The group makes its fair share of Titanic jokes.
Nick thinks that the reason an author can draw so well was just because “it’s olden times” and people were just more talented back then.
Kyle: “Do I believe that someone could write a story about a big boat hitting an iceberg? Yeah.”
Story #3: The Diary—a high school outcast’s diary predicts the future.
Chris summarizes the story.
Nick points out that after the story ends the host provides some supplemental evidence: “The girls ended up going to the party, but we can’t show you that.” Chris thinks it’s a budget issue; Nick thinks it’s a true story in which the lawyers didn’t want them to show that part of the story on the show.
Eden loves the characters’ names: Kim Maddox was the main character and the bullies’ names were Daily and Rosha.
Nick and Eden debate the hero’s journey in this story.
Chris thinks this feels writery.
Jesse: “We have to ask this… who told this story?” Kyle: “A very common question…”
Nick thinks the timing of this story is awkwardly accelerated and unrealistic. Then he adds a few punch ups to make it feel more connected. Kyle: “There was definitely some Game of Thrones style fast-travel.”
Jesse loves the big floppy disk that says “VIRUS” on it. Nick: “It might as well say, ‘FICTION’.”
Story #4: Town of Remembrance—a drive through a small town jogs the memory of someone with amnesia.
Eden is fooled by Kyle’s “I forgot” joke in a story about amnesia.
Kyle summarizes the story.
Jesse asks again, “Who told this story?”
The group agrees that this story is very unbelievable, but Nick thinks that this story is actually fact because if it were fiction the writers would have made it more believable.
This is Eden’s second “fave.”
Nick has a theory about who told this story: the nurse (judgey Susan) who was with her when she experienced this episode.
Story #5: The House on Barry Avenue—mysterious fires go unexplained until a couple contact a psychic.
Jesse’s favorite quote: “Well I’ve never seen flames shoot out of an outlet before. Good luck!”
Jesse summarizes the story.
Nick boils down this story to the kernel: “Stupid couple continuously fails to commit insurance fraud.”
Eden wonders why you would keep a scrapbook about a crime you committed. Nick thinks it’s fictiony.
Nick: “In a show with 5 minute segments—these scripts have to be tight—the detective is like, ‘is there an E in Sloane, miss?'”
Kyle loves the line, “Huh. A flame usually marks the wall.”
Nick loves how the discovery of the wife being a pyromaniac doesn’t lead to them realizing that she’s setting the fires… instead, it’s “well the spirit must be following her!”
The group wants the detective to have his own spin-off show.

#10 Castles castles castles [S2E4]
Dec 26, 2017
“Is anyone else turned on by this story?”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 2, episode 4. In an attempt to be more casual, Chris botches his intro. It’s revealed that this week’s episode of Beyond Belief has a theme – Friday the 13th! However, the stories do a pretty bad job of connecting anything to this theme and actually give up halfway through. Chris tries to get everyone to share their own Friday the 13th story, but no one has one… except Chris, who ate a whole pepperoni pizza to himself on Friday the 13th. Kyle explains the history of Friday the 13th.
Story 1: The Wrestler—A professional wrestler’s last match turns out to be his best… but there’s a catch.
At the end of this story, it’s revealed it all happened on Friday the 13th. No one can figure out how it plays into the story.
Chris debuts his new segment, “The Wrestley Rules.” Chris is a big WWE fan and doesn’t think this could have happened.
The group accidentally makes fun of Ira Glass, and are temporarily shut down.
Story 2: The Escape—A prisoner escaping through a laundry truck discovers he can’t stay away from the big house for long.
Jesse thinks it would be amazing if there was a Beyond Belief shared cinematic universe.
The story again reveals at the very end that it takes place on Friday the 13th
Tiffany thinks this story is about a person who just didn’t plan accordingly.
Story 3: Dead Friday—Two friends getting ready for a date night see an eerie premonition on TV.
Chris tells a personal beyond belief story about a mysterious bottle of chianti. Also he doesn’t know how to pronounce chianti, and it’s not mysterious.
Story 1: The Wall–A cop known for brutal integrations is haunted by an innocent suspect he put away.
The group points out this segment does something new by saying “the following was reconstructed by investigators.” Does this lend legitimacy to the story?
This story is suspiciously similar to Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell Tale Heart.”
Jesse believes you would be able to paint over the handprint.
Chris dives into the ghostly rules: human-time vs. afterlife-time does not match up here.
Story 2: The Chalkboard–Students in detention start hearing eerie screams whenever they write on the chalkboard.
Jesse thinks the pipe fell onto the janitor and he was moaning into it.
Jesse thinks the kids could have saved him, but they just made up an elaborate story to seem like cool heroes.
Could this be so weird it’s true?
Story 3: The Getaway–A busy executive’s ultimate getaway is as close to heaven as she can get… perhaps too close.
The group loved this story. Haunting and beautiful, with a good twist!
Chris breaks down the ghostly rules: when someone dies, there’s sometimes a person on the other side who needs to help guide them.
Tiffany thinks the lady who owned the house could have told this story.
Story 4: The Prescription–A young pharmacist’s quest to embrace the computer age is tripped up by a disappearing prescription.
If this story were true, would the pharmacist spread a story in which they almost made a fatal mistake with a patient? The group thinks this means it’s more likely fake.
There’s no clear moral here. Is it about moving into the digital age or sticking with more direct human-to-human communication?
Jesse thinks it’s very possible that a pharmacist can misplace a prescription and then find it later.
Story 5: Summer Camp–A kid bullied in summer camp has a heroic encounter one morning… while sleeping.
The kids are the ones who told the story, so who knows if it’s true? Jesse thinks the kids could have made up the story to mess with the camp counselor.
Tiffany thinks that maybe the kid just made up the story to cover the fact that he ate cookies he wasn’t supposed to have.
Using the ghostly rules, Chris thinks the kid’s spirit traveled.

#08 Ghosted [S2E2 with Claire Berger]
Dec 12, 2017
“Some of it’s true, and that’s how it works.”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 2, episode 2. Subbing in for Kyle Maddock this episode is our first guest host, Claire Berger! Check out her web series ex-BFF. Claire tells us her very own Beyond Belief story about when her grandma saw a faceless ghost.
Story 1: Firestation 32–When a boy alerts a firefighter about a major blaze, that firefighter has to wonder how he actually knew about the fire at all.
This one gave Chris chills.
Tiffany thinks it’s possible this one could have reported in a local paper.
The group thinks this could have been the kid’s “karmic purpose.”
Story 2: The Computer–A babysitter finds herself in trouble, but a mysterious occurrence sends the couple home early.
Tiffany points out that the burglar dropped his bag and ran. Didn’t take anything.
Mark thought it would be about a supernatural computer, but was sadly wrong.
Claire criticizes Jonathan Frakes’s hypothesis of what could have happened: “a play of light and shadows?”
Story 3: The Girl Next Door–A playboy falls in love with a woman who lives across the street, but once he’s unfaithful, she teaches him the ultimate lesson.
Chris explains the ghost rules at play here: could be a spirit who doesn’t realize she’s dead, but it goes on for way too long. Jesse points out ghosts probably have energy meters.
What’s the lesson here? Don’t cheat on a ghost?
Story 4: The Wallet–A young teenager discovers a lost wallet only to discover it’s tied to his past.
Big body, small head!
Everyone loves the creepy butler and lawyer. Maybe they’ve been dead the whole time (j/k)? They also are very tall with small heads.
Tiffany thinks it could be a coincidence-based story that is true.
Chris says that if he found a single lost wallet in a park, he would have looked around for more lost wallets (what?).
Story 5: The Woods–A mysterious man in the woods saves a young boy’s life.
Jesse yet again points out another woman with a soccer mom haircut.
The group is very confused by this mysterious healer in a wheelchair. How can he even get around the woods in a manual wheelchair?

#07 Jesse’s famous clogs [S2E1]
Dec 05, 2017
“This isn’t a Google airplane from the ’90s.”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 2, episode 1. The team is back for season 2! Except Jesse who “messed up the dates” and showed up to the recording late. Chris attempts to take over doing the intro line for the show.
The group talks about how season two stepped up their game: there’s a new host, Jonathan Frakes, who replaced James Brolin. The production value has gone up across the board, including a brand new set for all of the host’s interstitials.
We also shamelessly plug the Beyond Beyond Belief Merch Store. Any money we make from the store will go right back into the show, which will allow us to keep the server up and running, as well as reach out to new listeners who may enjoy our show.
And a shout out to Kyle Hickman, who is doing amazing artwork for the podcast!
Story 1: The Plane–A plane flies itself, saving the pilot from a deadly fate.
Right off the bat, the level of storytelling has risen. The acting, suspense and special effects are much improved.
Our resident ghost expert, Chris, doesn’t think this could have happened. Jesse thinks this is another case of Ghosts making elaborate plans. It’s way too complicated.
Kyle thinks the story was much simpler, and the writers elaborated the plane flying-by-itself-bit.
Story 2: The Gun–A gun mysteriously refuses to fire at innocent people.
Jesse points out that all the women in this show have the same short-soccer-mom-hairstyle.
Chris points out the intense sexual innuendos.
Jesse thinks the story has gone one step too far to be fact.
Story 3: The Portrait–A portrait painter discovers he has the power to end suffering.
Jesse thinks these customers should provide doctor’s notes to prove they’re ill.
Tiffany thinks the story is very convoluted. Chris thinks it’s fun!
Jesse points out the self-selection bias—some of these people who selected to have their portrait done are terminally ill, so naturally when they die people will think it was because of the painting and not the illness.
Story 4: The Pass–Two boys sneak into a morgue only to discover something horrible.
We weren’t lying about the hair.
Jesse thinks that seeing your twin dead wouldn’t shock you as much as the story wants us to believe.
Kyle and Mark think twins and morgues are writery gimmicks.
Jesse thinks that twins stories are frequently odd, and therefore get told a lot.
Tiffany doesn’t understand where this would be reported.
Story 5: The Caller–A radio talk show host gets a call from his dead son.
Tiffany thinks the detail of the radio host makes it feel more plausible. That aspect would have witnesses.
Chris thinks he would have heard of this story. Everyone else feels like there’s a so many local radio shows, that this could have slipped under the radar.
Kyle thinks these types of radio hosts have such crazy personalities that it could have happened but been misconstrued.

We’re calling it a bonus episode, but really that’s just a scam. Jesse calls Mark to talk about why we’re taking a month off.

#06 Subpoena the parrot [S1E6]
Oct 31, 2017
“What do you guys think? Should we just end this podcast?”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 1, episode 6. Mark steals Kyle’s trademark intro and it feels pretty good. Brolin eases into puns that make no sense like, “are we telling the truth, or is this just hard to digest?” Reminds Kyle of Sandra Bullock’s character from Demolition Man, Lenina Huxley, who mixes up expressions, like “you really licked his ass!”
A farewell to James Brolin! It’s JB’s last episode as host. Jesse would love to sing him off, but doesn’t know any Barbra Streisand songs. Chris thinks James Brolin was sleeping in his oversized jacket this whole time. Tiffany is just disappointed that the whole episode wasn’t hosted by literally a jacket.
Story 1: The Candlestick–An unfaithful man kills his wife only to discover there was a witness all along.
Turns out Jesse can do a great impression of a parrot’s impression of an middle-aged lady.
The group points out the overuse of the cheesy, but always great, “page peel” effect in the editing.
Chris has no ghostly insight for this one.
Jesse expected another twist to the story. A parrot predicting a murder is too simple.
Questions are posed about the “failure to report a crime” law, to which Chris’s response is “if a bird knows something about a murder and doesn’t come forward, that bird is going to jail.”
Chris also thinks he’s heard this story on the “local news,” but has no further evidence to back this up.
If you ever see someone giving you this look while adjusting the bass on his surround sound… get the F out.
Story 2: The Diner–An elderly couple who mourn the loss of their son attempt to carry out a master plan on their customers.
This was a creepy one. Kyle points out that the couple believed that they were helping people by poisoning them.
Chris thinks if this happened you would have heard about it.
Jesse doesn’t believe this—how did the cops not know about this? People keep showing up missing and the same cops keeping showing up but never figure it out?
Story 3: From The Agency–A young girl is trapped in a bank vault only to be rescued by an mysterious woman.
Chris got chills from this one. Kyle thought it was lame.
Reminded Tiffany of one of her favorite shows, Touched By An Angel (never heard of it). Reminded Jesse of one of his favorite shows Unsolved Mysteries (heard of it). And reminded Kyle of a favorite show of his, Quantum Leap (best show ever).
Jesse doesn’t get why an angel would need the girl to help with the lock. She’s a goddamn angel.
Tiffany doesn’t get why it’s an angel story at all. There was no moral dilemma, no one learns a lesson.
Story 4: The Magic Rose Garden–A rose garden gives a woman psychic powers.
Chris thinks the woman is Psyduck (yet he has know idea what a Psyduck is).
Tiffany thinks it’s fact because it’s just so weirdly specific. How could writers come up with this?
Kyle thinks the parents were on some drugs. In a shocking turn of events, Kyle exposes himself as likely never having done any drug in his life.
Kyle points out a great Brolin insight – parents calling when they’re children are sick, becuase they sensed something was wrong. This happens to Kyle all the time. He thinks his mom is a psychic (or a Psyduck?)
Quack.
“IT’S THE ROSE GARDEN, FREDDY!”
Story 5: The Jeep–An explosion from a bomb miraculously doesn’t harm nearby soldiers.
This is the second time there is no reenactment. It’s a story told orally by JB.
Chris is going meta—the last oral story was fact.
Kyle doesn’t understand the logistics or the timeline of this story. It doesn’t add up.
Chris thinks we put way too much time into discussing this one.

#05 The voodoo that you do [S1E5]
Oct 24, 2017
“Let’s throw in our towel like they did on this one.”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 1, episode 5. The group discusses James Brolin’s long and expository intro this week—as well as his awesome wardrobe. Chris thinks his jacket gets bigger each time… or maybe he’s getting smaller… or maybe he’s just turning into a jacket.
Story 1: Needle Point—A woman working for a terrible boss puts her frustration into doll making.
A totally normal hobby.
Jesse doesn’t think it could be true. No one was there to witness it.
Chris doesn’t believe this one either, it doesn’t follow the rules of voodoo. She never attached something personal from the boss to the doll. Chris tells a story of a person who was cursed and found a mutilated picture of herself under her desk (this was a story he heard on the podcast Jim Harold’s Campfire). Now that’s how you do voodoo.
We also establish that Chris is not an arch voodoo priestess (sorry guys).
Story 2: Toy To The Rescue—A young boy suffering from a rare and fatal medical condition finds hope in his favorite toy.
Kyle can’t stop manically laughing as he recounts this very sad story.
Jesse thinks we would be more empathetic with the kid in this story wasn’t so annoying.
“When you only get one right, no one laughs at your jokes.”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 1, episode 4. Converse Sneakers in a bottle? The group talks about how this prop, used by host James Brolin to explain the unexplainable, explains absolutely nothing but yet, is strangely hypnotic.
Story 1: Email—A mysterious email from a dead relative? exposes a secret.
As promised. Awesome late 90’s computer shot!
The group points out how dated this episode is. Chris says it’s basically just to explain how email works.
Chris thinks the badly treated secretary could be inspired by the Batman Returns version of Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman. He’s obsessed.
Mark takes the lead in the Ghost Department and asks if ghosts can understand technology? Chris doesn’t think so, and is also not happy that Mark thinks he’s a ghost expert.
Jesse thinks it’s another case of “ghosts make elaborate plans.”
Story 2: Cup of Joe—Girls heading to a party down a stormy highway are saved by a phantom billboard.
There’s always a creepy lantern guy
No one understands the why it’s called “Cup of Joe”.
“Where’s their phantom billboard?” Tiffany wants to know why other people were killed by a rockslide, but the main characters were saved by a phantom billboard? They didn’t even deserve it.
What’s the deal with the creepy lantern guy? It scared Chris, but didn’t quite make sense to include.
James Brolin thinks the girls could have mistaken a billboard for writing on the side of a barn? Tiffany doesn’t buy it.
Story 3: Secret of the Family Tomb—Unexplained vandalism in a cemetery crypt may be due to a family secret.
This was a really dark story. Does that mean it could be true?
Chris thinks this is an episode of Fixer Upper – Cemetery edition.
Chris and Kyle disagree about what a poltergeist is.
Another ghost being unnecessarily vague drives Jesse crazy.
The group points out a ridiculous zoom-in on James Brolin in the outro.
Story 4: Wheezer–An eight-year-old’s bond with his dog proves stronger than death.
A praying dog? Can you even get your dog to sit?
The group agrees they need more info from James Brolin to solve this one.
Chris reminisces about his childhood dog Daisy who ran away. The family found the dog later, only to discover it wasn’t Daisy but another missing neighborhood dog that looked similar. Oh yeah, and Daisy died (sorry Chris).
Story 5: The Unknown Patient–A doctor tries to save a John Doe, only to find out he may have already been dead.
The team agrees this story doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Tiffany thinks this could be a case of the “complicated theory”—it’s so complicated it must be true.
There’s another sweet camera zoom on our lead. Makes the James Brolin zoom look pitiful.

#03 Reverse Final Destination [S1E3]
Oct 10, 2017
“The ghosts don’t lie.”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 1, episode 3. Everyone lambasts Mark’s intro (again). The group talks about the story introductions performed by host James Brolin, especially his use of unnecessary and confusing props to illustrate very simple points. Also mentioned are Brolin’s infamous cold openings at the top of each episode, in which he says something very obvious and then is abruptly cut off by the show’s theme.
Story 1: The Prophecy—Three girls learn a harsh lesson when they decide to communicate with a spirit.
“Jill, that ain’t no rat.”
The group points out the spirit kidnapped the one girl who did not want to even mess with dark magic. Ergo, #OrginalBarb.
Kyle thinks it’s pretty simple; a girl just went missing coincidentally after playing with a Ouija board.
Jesse explains that if he were younger he would totally do this to mess with his friends—make it seem like a spirit took him to the underworld, when in fact he just moved to a different town.
Tiffany thinks it’s a very obvious story to have been written. Mark thinks it may too obvious to have been written.
Chris shares a personal Ouija story, apparently communicating with someone named… Ben?
Story 2: Couch Potato—An obese man obsessed with TV finds his unhealthy lifestyle surprisingly healthy.
“I’m sick of being in a Ménage à trois with a television!”
The group points out the ridiculous plug James Brolin gives in the outro: hoping the main character watches “our show.”
Chris tries to force in a ghostly element, claiming this is a “reverse Final Destination,” i.e., the universe wants to keep him alive.
Kyle thinks this a ridiculous because no one can break through a thick TV screen.
Jesse and Tiffany think if it were fake there would be more of a moral.
Story 3: Love Over The Counter—A woman invests in stocks based on signs she believes are being left by her dead husband.
“I could tell that he couldn’t wait to jump on my hunch.”
No one understands why it’s called “love over the counter.” A stock market thing?
Jesse a points out an emerging trend in Beyond Belief, made up clichés: “When you get to the bottom line, the bottom line looks better every time.” Huh?
Jesse thinks the writers are ripping off the movie Ghost.
Story 4: Imaginary Friend—A girl’s imaginary friend proves to be more than just imaginary.
“I’ve never seen smaller tea cups in my life.”
Chris explains he had a similar experience when he was younger, in which he predicted when his friends mom would call. Once. And never again.
Kyle also thinks this reminds him of his mom who says she always knows when Kyle will call. Spooky. And not just once.
Jesse thinks the girl’s predictions are much like many psychics (al la the Long Island Medium and Sylvia Browne)—they make hundreds of predictions, only a few come true, and you remember the hits and forget the misses (AKA confirmation bias).
Story 5: Last Man On Earth—A divorce couple is reunited by songs on a radio station.
“The ghosts don’t lie”
The group thought it was a really sweet story, but James Brolin outro kind of ruined it by trying to force a supernatural element.
Jesse won’t admit that this story made him very emotional [Note from Jesse: I don’t recall this].
Reminds Jesse and Kyle of the radio call-in show Delilah.
Mark thinks it’s true because it took place in Los Angeles.

#02 Injecting the supernatural where it doesn’t belong [S1E2]
Oct 03, 2017
“I’m gonna put that tractor in the barn!”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 1, episode 2. Mark tries out a new hello and Chris calls it out. Jesse confuses James Brolin for Burt Reynolds. Kyle doesn’t buy it. Everyone shares their approach to analyzing stories. Chris explains he focuses on the supernatural elements having been raised on that subject matter (through TV shows similar to Beyond Belief).
Duck? Rabbit? Or something James Brolin stole from the prop house? Burning questions as we continue on to episode 2! No turning back now.
Story 1: The Viewing–A boy allows a mysterious old man to visit the body of the deceased after viewing hours.
Jesse reveals it’s a case of the “he’s been dead for 5 minutes.”
Chris points out a rare treat… there’s a notable actor in this story: a young Eric Christian Olsen.
Jesse points out how bad the customer service is in the funeral parlor. “Where’s my keys?”
Kyle thought the story was about ignorant children not being able to tell old people apart.
Jesse forgot which president is on a quarter.
Story 2: The Subway—A couple boards a haunted subway train that takes them on a high-speed ride to nowhere.
Jesse introduces a theory—“ghosts make elaborate plans.”
Kyle thought the ghost was merely trying to cock-block the couple’s date night.
Jesse proposes the couple simply did a lot of crystal meth and imagined the whole evening.
What’s going on?!
Story 3: Kid in the Closet—No one believes there’s a monster in Danny’s closet until the day his older brother goes inside.
The hosts discuss how this is one of the most well known and spooky stories of Beyond Belief.
Chris doesn’t think that someone can just vanish. Jesses points out The Leftovers.
Everyone thinks it’s so well produced and Kyle says he’ll do some research into this one.
The hosts feel that if the story is so famous then it must be true. They all vote fact (but not the coin)… then Jesse realizes maybe the kids killed Danny and made up this elaborate closet story so know one would look for the body.
Story 4: Justice is Served—A man accused of murdering his business partner starts to see visions in the courtroom.
Chris points out firsts for the show: first courtroom scene and first appearance of Elizabeth Warren (not actually the politician, but a character with the same name).
Chris is unimpressed that the story revolves around ghosts showing up in places. “So could it happen? Yeah. Sure.”
Mark thinks it’s an obvious episode to have been written.
Jesse wonders if ghosts can come back in any form. “Couldn’t she come back as the girl from The Ring?”
Story 5: “The Tractor”—A niece visits her paralyzed uncle, only to find he’s not who she remembered.
Jesse thinks a tractor sounds like a train.
Kyle points out that this is very similar to X-Men’s origin story for Colossus.
Chris injects the supernatural where it doesn’t belong. No one is buying it.
Kyle mentions a line in City Slickers where Billy Crystal believes people can have great strength in important moments.

#01 A burgle murder [S1E1]
Oct 03, 2017
“I tend to look more to the Rules of the Ghostly World.”
Today we review Beyond Belief: Fact or Fictionseason 1, episode 1. Jesse introduces the very first episode of Beyond Beyond Belief and Kyle gets excited about the campy 90s flair. Chris asks how everyone discovered the show and everyone has fond memories except for Tiffany, who didn’t grow up with the show but quickly fell in love with it.
Show host James Brolin introduces the episode with a classic? optical illusion.
Story 1: The Apparition—A woman sees images in her upstairs mirror.
Tiffany notices a similarity to Michelle Pfeiffer’s What Lies Beneath.
Jesse discusses the pertinent additional information the host sometimes gives after the story is done.
Chris and Kyle discuss the meta-game of the first story of the first season possibly needing to be fact.
We learn about Chris’s Ghostly Rules.
Story 2: The Electric Chair—A man on his way to the electric chair encounters a fortunate malfunction.
Chris mentions that the convict probably did it just because he looks guilty.
Tiffany notices that this entire story was narrated by the host, James Brolin, as opposed to the character in the story.
Chris, Mark, and Jesse discuss the use of supplemental photos after the story is over.
Jesse talks about the bad luck of being a lawyer for the first time and getting a death row case.
Story 3: On The Road—A night club singer invites her husband to their old night club hangout for one last hurrah.
Jesse’s confused as to why they needed to meet at the lounge in the first place. Kyle think it’s sweet.
Kyle mentions that he did work on this same set as a background actor.
Chris demands more standing from his singers.
Story 4: Number One With A Bullet—A man cheats on his wife and, through a series of unlikely events, pays the ultimate price.
Everyone’s confused why this story is called “Number One With a Bullet.” Kyle looks it up and explains the origin of the phrase (Tiffany is unconvinced) as well as makes mention of the buddy cop film and Ray Stevens country album of the same name, which includes a song called “Power Tools,” which Jesse and Chris realize as they’re typing the show notes is what dislodges the bullet (creepy!).
Jesse asks who would have told the assistant’s story since no one would likely admit that they attempted murder.
Story 5: Dream House—A woman dreaming of the perfect house ends up finding the one she saw in her dreams.
This story gave Chris and Kyle chills.
Tiffany and Kyle discuss how there’s no real villain in this story, but Tiffany later realizes that the only motivation of our main character is greed.
Chris explores the paranormal plausibility of this story.
Kyle wishes he had the power to scare people away from their physical possessions so he can take them.
The realty company named Flotard gives everyone a good laugh.

#00 Don’t tease me
Sep 21, 2017
Let me tell you something. My mom used to watch a bunch of random TV. Some of it was bad (Lifetime movies), some of it was great (The X-Files), and some of it was absolute genius (Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction). And on 10/03/17, we’re starting a podcast to celebrate that genius. This is a show that premiered on Fox in 1997. It aired for four seasons for a total of 45 episodes. Each episode, the host of the show (James Brolin in the first season, Jonathan Frakes in the remainder) would present five stories. Some of them were based on real events. Others were simply made up by the show’s writers. It was a game to see if by the end of the episode you could tell which stories were fact and which were fiction.
It wasn’t until I was in an FYE that I came across season one on DVD, which completely washed over me in a wave of campy 90s nostalgia. I then found the rest of the episodes scattered across YouTube and various other places, which I proceeded to force countless friends to watch. They mostly all thanked me.
On October 3, 2017, we will debut a brand new podcast that goes beyond this acclaimed 90s cult classic TV series. Our podcast will recap each of the 45 episodes of the original series. We’ll analyze each story’s credibility and predict which we believe to be fact and which we believe are fiction. Right now you’re either giddy with excitement at the idea that this show you forgot about is being resurrected or you have no idea what I’m talking about. But either way, subscribe to us and give us the chance because I’m pretty sure that same wave of campy 90s nostalgia will wash over you as well.
