Throwback Files: Mothman | Paranormal Podcast

Welcome to the Throwback Files on The Mothman!

This new series will allow us to explore older episodes that some of you newer listeners may not have had a chance to hear. We will include thoughts on why we chose each particular episode, along with new comments at the end of the episode.

We hope you enjoy this new monthly throwback Thursday special.

    The Mothman:

Mothman is a legendary humanoid creature reportedly seen in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, between November 1966 and December 1967, described by witnesses as a seven-foot-tall figure with glowing red eyes and large wings that pursued vehicles while making screeching sounds.

The phenomenon began when two couples reported encountering the creature near a former WWII munitions plant, sparking widespread media coverage and numerous additional sightings throughout the region.

Following the December 15, 1967, collapse of the Silver Bridge and the death of 46 people,[16] the incident gave rise to the legend and connected the Mothman sightings to the bridge collapse.

Wildlife experts believe the Mothman legend likely originated from misidentified sandhill cranes or herons that had wandered outside their normal migration routes, as these birds match the physical descriptions and possess naturally reddish coloring around their eyes.

Veteran Horror Stories | Paranormal Podcast

In this special Veterans Day episode, we honor those who serve by sharing six chilling paranormal encounters experienced by military personnel during their time in service.

We explore stories from soldiers stationed across the globe, from basic training at Fort Jackson to deployments in Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

The episode opens with a Fort Jackson trainee who witnessed a mysterious floating orb of light that behaved impossibly—appearing as a bouncing flashlight before suddenly veering off the trail, rising into the air, and vanishing just feet away from three startled soldiers.

We then hear from a Marine patrolling a veterans cemetery alone at night who discovered an old weathered headstone with a glowing neon-blue cross and multi-voice humming that seemed to come from hundreds of sources at once, creating such an intense electric field that his hair stood on end.

The encounters take darker turns as we share the story of a Marine sniper who describes his first kill in Fallujah and the terrifying sleep paralysis experience that followed, where he felt an entity crawl onto his chest and pin him down in the middle of the night. We also explore a British soldier's encounter with a mysterious voice warning "don't come in" from inside a chained building that turned out to be booby-trapped with mines and filled with bones from a Russian massacre.

Additional stories include soldiers hearing phantom children's laughter in the Afghan desert where no children existed for miles, cadence calls echoing through empty training grounds at 2am, and an entire haunted government building in Iraq where Saddam Hussein allegedly executed dissidents.

The Montauk Project Nov 04, 2025
    Show notes

The Montauk Project | Paranormal Podcast

In this episode, we dive deep into one of the most controversial conspiracy theories in paranormal history—the Montauk Project.

We start by exploring the very real Camp Hero military base located on the easternmost tip of Long Island in Montauk, New York, which operated from World War II through the Cold War era. Originally disguised as a quaint fishing village to fool German U-boats, the base later housed a massive 90-foot radar tower that remains standing today as the only survivor of twelve similar installations.

After the base was officially abandoned in 1981 and later transferred to the National Park Service, strange stories began to emerge.

We introduce Preston Nichols, an electrical engineer who claims to have discovered his own repressed memories of working on secret experiments at the facility, and Duncan Cameron, a gifted psychic who mysteriously knew intimate details about the base despite claiming he'd never been there before.

We then explore the disturbing allegations at the heart of the Montauk Project conspiracy, which include mind control experiments, time travel research, and the abuse of thousands of children in underground tunnels beneath the base.

According to Nichols and Cameron's recovered memories, the project involved a device called the "Montauk Chair" that could amplify psychic abilities to manifest physical objects, open portals through time and space, and even conjure creatures from thin air.

We discuss the project's alleged connections to the Philadelphia Experiment, MK-Ultra's documented mind control programs, and theories involving alien collaboration.

The Haunted Sallie House Oct 21, 2025
    Show notes

The Sallie House | Paranormal Podcast

In this special Halloween live episode, we traveled to Atchison, Kansas to explore one of America's most infamous haunted houses—the Sallie House. We dive into the dark backstory dating back to 1905, when a desperate mother allegedly brought her six-year-old daughter to Dr. Charles Finney's home for emergency surgery.

According to local lore, the doctor began operating on the girl's appendix before the anesthesia took effect, and she died on his operating table from blood loss.

While we acknowledge there's no concrete historical evidence this event actually occurred, we explore why this story has persisted and discuss other tragic deaths that took place in and around the property, including a disturbing incident involving the woman next door and her young son.

The episode takes a personal turn as we share our own experiences from investigating the house for two hours the day before this live recording. We discuss what happened when our group used the Estes Method and spirit box equipment during our investigation, including multiple people hearing the same disturbing growl, our skeptical friend Parker getting mysteriously scratched, and the eerie responses we received when asking questions about what lurks in the attic and basement.

We detail the intense haunting experiences of Tony and Debra Pickman, who lived in the house during the 1990s and endured everything from toys rearranging themselves to violent scratches appearing on Tony's body—even during filmed investigations.

    Show notes

The Bear Demon | Paranormal Podcast

This listener submission episode starts with Katrina from Alaska, who in December 2019 made the questionable decision to attempt summoning Paimon, one of the nine kings of hell.

What followed were months of unsettling experiences—shadowy creatures darting between trees, an overwhelming sense of dread, and two disturbing encounters in the woods that left her disoriented and injured.

Next, we hear from David in Wisconsin, who woke at 2:30am to the sound of rustling like a plastic bag in the wind, followed by an overwhelming wave of fear and the mental image of a beast snapping its jaws at him while he lay frozen in bed.

Our final and longest story comes from longtime listener Hex, whose Massachusetts home has been a hotbed of paranormal activity since sixth grade. We discuss multiple encounters experienced by Hex and their family, including the mysterious "Farmer" ghost in yellow plaid and overalls who appears in the backyard, unexplained boot stomping that echoes through the house during sleepovers, and perhaps most unsettling—a shadowy figure that appeared behind Hex in a FaceTime call but wasn't visible when they turned around.

The Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp Oct 07, 2025
    Show notes

The Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp | Paranormal Podcast

In this episode, we dive deep into the swamps of South Carolina to explore the legendary Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp.

We kick things off with the most famous encounter from 1988, when 17-year-old Christopher Davis was driving home from his McDonald's shift when his tire blew out near the swamp.

What happened next became the stuff of local legend—a towering 7-8 foot tall creature with glowing red eyes, green scaly skin, and three-clawed fingers leaped onto his car as he desperately tried to escape.

Davis's harrowing account, validated by a polygraph test and the local sheriff, sparked a media frenzy that drew everyone from Good Morning America to the Washington Post to this small South Carolina town.

We explore multiple sightings from that intense summer of 1988, including terrified teenagers, mauled vehicles, mysterious three-toed footprints that baffled biologists, and even police officers who witnessed evidence firsthand. The footprint castings remain the most compelling physical evidence—14 inches long with three clawed toes that experts couldn't match to any known animal.

The Voynich Manuscript Sep 30, 2025
    Show notes

The Voynich Manuscript | Paranormal Podcast

This week is all about the strange Voynich Manuscript. We explored how this mysterious 240-page medieval book, written entirely in an unknown language and filled with bizarre illustrations, has baffled scholars for over a century. From its discovery by rare book dealer Dr. Wilford M. Voynich in 1912 at a Jesuit college near Rome to its current home at Yale University, we traced the manuscript's fascinating journey through the hands of alchemists, occultists, and royalty.

The book features drawings of unidentifiable plants, unusual star charts that don't quite match Earth's perspective, and peculiar images of naked women bathing in colored liquids—all accompanied by elegant, flowing text that no one has ever been able to decipher.

We discussed the leading theories about the manuscript's origins, from the possibility that it was an elaborate hoax created by medieval forger Edward Kelly to sell to Holy Roman Emperor Rudolph II, to the idea that it's simply a coded language whose key has been lost to time.

We also explored the most intriguing theory: that this could be an alien travel journal, documenting unfamiliar plants, star charts from another vantage point, and perhaps even the abduction process involving those mysterious liquid-filled tubes.

The Haunted Split Rock Quarry Sep 23, 2025
    Show notes

    The Haunted Split Rock Quarry

This week, we dive into three unsettling listener-submitted stories.

Our first tale comes from Jenna, who recounts the terrifying experiences of her three-year-old sister Sophia, who claims to see a menacing shadow man in top hat and suit watching her through windows throughout their family home.

What starts as typical childhood imagination quickly escalates when the mysterious figure begins whispering cruel messages about family rejection, leading to months of disturbing sleepwalking episodes that set off house alarms as the toddler attempts to wander outside in the dead of night.

We then journey to the beaches of Egypt with another Sophia, who witnesses a bizarre encounter during a late-night snack run with friends along the Mediterranean coast.

When a figure in glowing neon-white clothing appears from nowhere, taking impossibly long strides toward the water before vanishing completely, the teenagers find themselves searching desperately for answers.

Finally, we explore the haunted Split Rock Quarry in New York with amateur paranormal investigators Matt and Kim, whose first foray into ghost hunting at the site of a tragic 1918 explosion yields immediate and intensely personal results that challenge everything they thought they knew about communicating with the other side.
