We are so certain that we make our own destiny. No matter who or how we worship, we seem to gravitate back to the delusion that we are in control, and that we deserve reward for our efforts. But Scripture teaches us a different lesson. Dr. Sams shows us how Scripture teaches that God provides everything - literally, everything. It comes and goes at His will. And so what matters is how we allow Christ to influence our actions for His kingdom. As His righteousness supplants our righteousness, we cannot help but proclaim His truth and freedom.

You have to want it, and you have to want it enough to do what it takes to get it. You can mass a great deal of knowledge, but without reverent fear and willful obedience to Christ, wisdom and understanding escape us. And that is the work: seeking Christ. He is the ultimate source of wisdom. Draw near to God, and you draw near to wisdom.

We understand reputation in a certain way. In fact, our culture has come close to idolatry in terms of reputation. The culture when Proverbs was written was very different. Reputation could not be easily earned. It were given. Usually, a power greater than yourself grants it. Dr. Sams reminds us that when Jesus gives us a name, it is written in His eternal book of life. We are noted as His brother, God's children, and as such, we share in an inheritance that is good, eternal, and irrevocable. It's more than good news, it's the best news ever.
