The Work That Brings Rest Oct 09, 2016
    Show notes

What is work? What is rest? How does it intersect our life? Dr. Sams begins a new sermon series on Sabbath, one of the most misunderstood concepts of spiritual discipline. We generally understand work in the context of our culture, as our culture defines work. But our culture leads us to rest as the opposite work (by its own definition of "work"). But fact is, God created work. He began creation by doing work. And He took great joy in it. How do we follow that model? There's a pretty practical answer in Dr. Sams' message - just a click away.

Relationships - The Purpose in Us Sep 25, 2016
    Show notes

In the concluding sermon on relationships, Dr. Sams masterfully boils down two basic approaches to relationships. Scripture has a great deal to say about each one, and, broken as we are, back and forth we go between the two. In fact, we all have experienced relationships where each approach has affected us. What is this moment-to-moment choice we all make in relationships, and how would Christ have us live in the midst of that choice? Have a listen to find out.

Relationships - The Peace In Us Sep 20, 2016
    Show notes

Last week, Dr. Sams showed us a common pain cycle into which we've all fallen to various degrees. Continuing in his series on relationships, Dr. Sams explores a different cycle ruled by Christ. As Christ, in effect, referees the thoughts in our head that try to convince us we are not loved, we draw near to Him, and discover the opposite is true. In this way, Christ begins a peace cycle in us filled with forgiveness, humility, patience, gratitude, and ultimately love that overflows into our community. This is what we long for the church - that we can be conduits for His love, and share the peace [cycle] of Christ with each other.

Relationships - The Pain In Us - Video Sep 11, 2016

We are pain-filled creatures. That pain moves us to develop certain behaviors we use to cope. Unfortunately, these tools often end up causing us more pain. Dr. Sams explores this cycle of pain: hard work for us fallen creatures, but it's work that illuminates the blind spots in our lives. Without seeing our weaknesses, we cannot submit of the pain to the Spirit, nor even develop a desire to change. Lend us a click, and hear how the good news informs our pain.
