The Letter to the Ephesians - Part 1 Jun 24, 2025

Show notes

Tonight we have another highly requested reading--the book of Ephesians. There will be two parts. The first part covers chapters 1 through 3. Paul is writing a letter to the early Christian believers in the city of Ephesus. Paul begins by highlighting the incredible blessings that believers have in Christ. Ephesians reminds us that salvation is a gift of grace.

The Story of Job - Part 6 May 12, 2025

Show notes

Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms out there, including "fur" moms and those longing to be moms.

It is bittersweet tonight as we wrap up the amazing story of Job. God finally speaks and addresses Job and his friends. The ending will give you so much hope! Praise God that He makes all things new and works everything out for our good.

At the beginning of the episode, I share a little bit about my Job season and one of my "whys." I became suddenly chronically ill at the very end of August 2022. It's been quite the journey and the scariest years of my life. I won't go into too much detail but I've been to the ER several times (for the first time in my life) and at times thought I was dying. Insomnia was one of numerous symptoms and I knew that the lack of sleep was preventing my healing. I started searching for Bible stories that I could fall asleep to, but I could never find exactly what I was looking for. I felt this tug on my heart (God) and this push, telling me that I should start my own. A few months later, Bedtime Bible Stories for Adults was born.

There have been challenging moments since shortness of breath is one of my symptoms, but praise God that is improving! I look back now and see how far I've come. I'm working with a functional doctor and working on reframing my thoughts and my brain. Your messages bring me so much encouragement (and tears!). Thank you for your prayers, your donations, and for sharing how the podcast has helped you. I appreciate all of you.

We are reading Job 38 through 42.

The Story of Job - Part 5 Apr 21, 2025

Show notes

I hope you had a wonderful Good Friday and a blessed Resurrection Sunday! He is risen. Praise God.

I can't believe we are on part 5 of the Story of Job. We only have one more episode after this one. In this episode, we hear from someone new--Elihu. Job has stopped speaking and his friends are also done with their opinions and "words of wisdom." Elihu is younger, but has much to share. He is not happy with Job or his three friends.

We are reading Job 32 through 37.

The Story of Job - Part 4 Apr 07, 2025

Show notes

Part 4 begins with Job speaking again, followed by a response from his friend, Bildad. After that, Job shares his final words with his friends and his final defense. I imagine he is exhausted from trying to justify himself to his friends and calling out to God.

My favorite chapter of this episode is chapter 26. Job describes God's powerful works as Creator of the universe. Then he says, "And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?" (Emphasis added.) What profound, impactful words. Gives me chills!

We are reading Job chapters 23 through 31. There are two parts left!

The Story of Job - Part 3 Mar 21, 2025

Show notes

The book of Job is a long one, but full of raw and relatable thoughts. I've enjoyed getting a deeper look at the dialogue between Job and his friends. Job doesn't hold back! Many of you are also in your Job season like I am. Pray for wisdom, for strength, that we will learn quickly if God is trying to teach us something, and that God will use us... even while suffering. Let's thank Him for the story of Job, that allows us to see that greater things are coming!

We are reading Job 15 through 22.

The Story of Job - Part 2 Mar 04, 2025

Show notes

Well, family... we are going to read the entire book of Job! In part 2 we will hear more dialogue between Job and his friends. Job feels very alone in his suffering and his friends are only upsetting him more. How frustrating! And I know many of you have felt that exact way before. Thankfully, we have a Savior who understands us--we don't even have to explain it to Him!

We are reading Job 8 through 14.

The Story of Job - Part 1 Feb 17, 2025

Show notes

The book of Job is very near and dear to my heart. The past two years of my life have been the hardest and scariest years I've ever experienced. Many times I told God I couldn't handle it anymore. I can relate to much of what Job says. For that reason, I'm so thankful that the book of Job was included in the Bible. When hard times come upon us, it's such a source of encouragement. God promises that the pain we are feeling now cannot compare to the joy that is coming. Praise God for that promise!

We are reading Job 1 through 7.

The First King of Israel Jan 13, 2025

Show notes

The people of Israel had God as their King, but they demanded an earthly one. The donkeys of a man named Kish went missing, and he sent his son, Saul, out to look for them. Sometimes God may send us on what may seem like a wild goose chase. But He ALWAYS has a plan. Listen to hear about the first king of Israel.

We are reading 1 Samuel 8, 9, and 10 in the NIV version.

For God So Loved (feat. the Woman at the Well) Dec 22, 2024

Show notes

Tonight's episode will consist of beautiful words from Jesus in the book of John. I was skimming through the gospels, and John 3:16 jumped out at me. It felt right for the season. God's only begotten son, the bread of life.

We are reading John 3:1-21, John 4:1-42, John 5:16-47, and John 6:22-69.

Sodom and Gomorrah Dec 08, 2024

Show notes

The story of Sodom and Gomorrah may not have a very happy ending, but it has several important lessons. I mention one during the episode introduction. Another lesson was pointed out by my pastor this week. Once you choose Jesus... don't look back. "Remember Lot's wife" is a warning in Luke 17:32.

We are reading from Genesis 13, 18, and 19.
