    Becoming Financially Confident

Breaking Free from Financial Shame, one conversation at a time.

Most money advice assumes you already know what you’re doing. This show doesn’t.
Becoming Financially Confident is a live weekday show for people who want to get their financial life in order without being lectured, judged, or sold something. Host Ralph Estep Jr. is a Licensed Public Accountant with more than 30 years of experience sitting across the desk from real people and real businesses — the shoebox of receipts, the tax notice nobody wants to open, the budget that never quite balances. He has made his own expensive mistakes, and he talks about them openly.

This is not a new voice. Ralph has published more than 1,200 episodes across eight seasons, earned national recognition for his work, and written nearly a thousand articles on money, taxes, technology, and small business. Becoming Financially Confident is the next chapter of that same show, in the same feed — sharper, live, and built around one idea: you are capable of figuring this out.

Every show opens with Headlines: what happened in the money world, and why it matters to your money and not just somebody’s portfolio. From there, the recurring segments include:

Do the Math — one real financial decision run all the way to the number.
The Envelope — a full teardown of a single financial product, account, or government program.
Yes or No — a question that usually gets “well, it depends” gets an actual answer.
Side Hustle Corner — what a side gig really pays after expenses, self-employment tax, and the hours nobody counts.
Explain It Like I’m Broke — plain-English translation of the jargon that keeps people from asking.
Scam of the Week — the ones running right now, and how to spot them before they cost you.
Bill of the Week — a line-by-line look at something everybody pays and almost nobody reads.
Homework — one task, free, finishable in fifteen minutes, with a check-in before the week is out.
Wins of the Week — listeners who did the thing, and what actually happened when they did.
What It Cost Me — Ralph puts his own money mistakes on the table.

This show is for the person making good money who still can’t say where it goes. The couple who have been meaning to build a budget for four years. The 52-year-old who opened the retirement statement and closed it again. The freelancer who just got a tax bill they weren’t expecting. If you have ever felt like everyone else got a manual you never received, you are the reason this show exists.

Here is the thing nobody says out loud: most people aren’t stuck because they lack discipline. They’re stuck because they’re ashamed — of the balance, of the mistake, of the years they didn’t start. Shame keeps the statement unopened and the question unasked, and an unasked question never gets answered. So this show asks them out loud, without flinching and without judgment, and then hands you the actual tools.

    Not just informed. Equipped.

Live at 11:30 AM Eastern, Monday through Friday, with the full episode in your podcast feed by 5:00 PM the same day. Weekly highlights drop every Saturday.

Ralph Estep Jr., LPA, is the founder of Saggio Management Group, an accounting practice he has run in Middletown, Delaware for more than 30 years. He is a financial educator, author, business coach, and podcast host.

Is More Money Just Leading to More Spending (Lifestyle Creep)? Jun 18, 2025
    Show notes

It’s easy to assume that earning more will solve your financial stress—but what if the real problem isn’t income, but habits? In this episode of Financially Confident Christian, Ralph explores the subtle trap of lifestyle creep, where higher income leads to higher expenses without any lasting progress. If you’ve ever wondered why your raise didn’t translate into more savings, peace, or margin, this conversation will hit home. Ralph breaks down the emotional, spiritual, and practical dynamics behind the pattern of more money more spending.

    Read today's blog article

Check out the full podcast episode here

You’ll hear how to spot lifestyle creep in your own life, how to set firm financial goals before your next raise, and why intentionality matters more than income when it comes to stewardship. Ralph also shares one key mindset shift to help you resist cultural pressure and build a life aligned with your values. If you’ve been earning more but feeling stuck—or if you’re just getting started and want to build healthy habits early—this episode will help you slow the creep and refocus on what truly matters.

    • 01:24 - Understanding Lifestyle Creep
    • 05:19 - Understanding Lifestyle Creep and Financial Intentionality

    • 11:36 - Financial Guidance and Next Steps

    Takeaways:

    • We often think more income equals more wealth, but lifestyle creep begs to differ.
    • Lifestyle creep is that sneaky little devil making our spending rise with income increases.
    • The key to fighting lifestyle creep is being intentional with every single dollar we earn.
    • Contentment is crucial; we need to focus on what truly matters, not just more stuff.
    • If you're not careful, your extra cash might vanish into thin air thanks to lifestyle creep.
    • Plan ahead for any income increases to ensure you're building wealth instead of just spending.

Ralph emphasizes that credit is just a tool—one that requires God-given discipline to use without being mastered by it. If you’ve sworn off credit entirely or feel unsure how to reintroduce it without risk, this episode offers clarity, conviction, and a step-by-step plan to move forward with confidence.

    Chapters:

    • 00:00 - Navigating the World of Credit

    • 04:18 - The Power of Credit: Using It Wisely
    • 08:47 - The Importance of Responsible Credit Usage
    • 10:00 - Understanding Your Credit Report and Score

    Takeaways:

    • Credit can be a confusing and scary world, but it doesn’t have to be.
    • Avoiding credit altogether might actually hold you back from achieving your goals.
    • Using credit responsibly requires strict self-control and a commitment to pay off balances.
    • Building a good credit history can save you tons of cash in the long run.
    • Credit isn't evil; it's just a tool that can help or hurt depending on how you use it.
    • The key to successful credit use is only charging what you can afford and paying it off monthly.
