    Becoming Financially Confident

Breaking Free from Financial Shame, one conversation at a time.

Most money advice assumes you already know what you’re doing. This show doesn’t.
Becoming Financially Confident is a live weekday show for people who want to get their financial life in order without being lectured, judged, or sold something. Host Ralph Estep Jr. is a Licensed Public Accountant with more than 30 years of experience sitting across the desk from real people and real businesses — the shoebox of receipts, the tax notice nobody wants to open, the budget that never quite balances. He has made his own expensive mistakes, and he talks about them openly.

This is not a new voice. Ralph has published more than 1,200 episodes across eight seasons, earned national recognition for his work, and written nearly a thousand articles on money, taxes, technology, and small business. Becoming Financially Confident is the next chapter of that same show, in the same feed — sharper, live, and built around one idea: you are capable of figuring this out.

Every show opens with Headlines: what happened in the money world, and why it matters to your money and not just somebody’s portfolio. From there, the recurring segments include:

Do the Math — one real financial decision run all the way to the number.
The Envelope — a full teardown of a single financial product, account, or government program.
Yes or No — a question that usually gets “well, it depends” gets an actual answer.
Side Hustle Corner — what a side gig really pays after expenses, self-employment tax, and the hours nobody counts.
Explain It Like I’m Broke — plain-English translation of the jargon that keeps people from asking.
Scam of the Week — the ones running right now, and how to spot them before they cost you.
Bill of the Week — a line-by-line look at something everybody pays and almost nobody reads.
Homework — one task, free, finishable in fifteen minutes, with a check-in before the week is out.
Wins of the Week — listeners who did the thing, and what actually happened when they did.
What It Cost Me — Ralph puts his own money mistakes on the table.

This show is for the person making good money who still can’t say where it goes. The couple who have been meaning to build a budget for four years. The 52-year-old who opened the retirement statement and closed it again. The freelancer who just got a tax bill they weren’t expecting. If you have ever felt like everyone else got a manual you never received, you are the reason this show exists.

Here is the thing nobody says out loud: most people aren’t stuck because they lack discipline. They’re stuck because they’re ashamed — of the balance, of the mistake, of the years they didn’t start. Shame keeps the statement unopened and the question unasked, and an unasked question never gets answered. So this show asks them out loud, without flinching and without judgment, and then hands you the actual tools.

    Not just informed. Equipped.

Live at 11:30 AM Eastern, Monday through Friday, with the full episode in your podcast feed by 5:00 PM the same day. Weekly highlights drop every Saturday.

Ralph Estep Jr., LPA, is the founder of Saggio Management Group, an accounting practice he has run in Middletown, Delaware for more than 30 years. He is a financial educator, author, business coach, and podcast host.

Ralph highlights that as we gear up for the busy back-to-school season, it’s all too easy to forget about those little victories we’ve achieved along the way. Have you stuck to your budget? Saved a little extra? Or maybe avoided that impulse buy? These small wins deserve a shout-out! But it’s not just financial wins we need to celebrate; it’s also the non-financial joys like family moments, peaceful walks, or simply enjoying a hot cup of coffee that make life rich. By reflecting on these blessings, we shift our focus from busyness to gratitude, opening our hearts to God’s presence in our lives.

As we wrap things up, Ralph lays out some actionable steps for reflection. He encourages us to carve out just a little time in our day to pause, think, and pray. It’s all about recognizing that we didn’t get here on our own; God’s been our provider through every step. So, let’s take a moment to express our gratitude, acknowledge our victories, and prepare ourselves for what’s next. This episode is packed with wisdom on how to cultivate a thankful spirit and trust God more deeply as we navigate our financial journeys.

    • Intentional reflection helps us shift from anxiety to gratitude and strengthens our trust in God.

Tithing: Lottery or Life Lesson? Aug 23, 2025
    Show notes

Today, we're diving into a listener's burning question about tithing and financial struggles. They’re faithfully giving but still feel like they’re sinking in debt. We totally get it—many folks are in the same boat, feeling like their generosity isn't getting them anywhere. So, let’s set the record straight: tithing isn’t some magic ticket to financial bliss. We chat about how it’s all about obedience and discipline, and why budgeting and smart money management are just as crucial. Stick around as we break down this whole financial faith thing—because it’s not just about giving, it’s about being savvy with what you’ve got! So let's discuss this - is tithing like hitting the lottery or really a life lesson?

    Takeaways:

    • Tithing isn't just about giving money; it's about obedience and being disciplined with finances.
    • Many people think God’s blessings are just cash, but sometimes it’s wisdom and peace instead.
    • If you’re drowning in debt, tithing alone won’t fix it; budgeting and a debt plan are crucial.
    • Don't give up on giving, but also don’t ignore managing your debts; both are important.
    • God blesses those who are faithful stewards, not just those who give generously without planning.
    • Real financial freedom comes from aligning your spending with your faith and values.

Your sleepless nights? Yeah, they probably aren’t just about your bank account. In this bonus episode, I’m diving deep into the fact that no matter how hard you hustle, if God isn’t at the core of your plans, you might just be spinning your wheels. I’ll share a listener’s heartfelt email that really hit home, questioning why it feels like she’s building but nothing lasts. It’s all about realizing that financial confidence comes from trusting God to be your builder, not just a backup plan. So, if you’re tired of the grind and want to find true peace, stick around as we explore how to shift from anxious toil to a solid legacy.

    Takeaways:

    • Your sleepless nights might not be about money, but instead about deeper issues.
    • Financial confidence comes when you make God the builder, not just a backup plan.
    • Hard work without God's foundation leads to emptiness; trust Him for true peace.
    • True wealth is not found in your bank account; it's in the legacy you leave behind.
    • Anxiety and sleepless nights are not God's plan; He wants you to find peace.
    • Building your finances with God at the center leads to lasting success and true confidence.

Summer's rolling out, and if you're like many, you're feeling that financial drift like a leaf on the wind. Not to worry though, Ralph's here to help us carve out some solid financial goals before the fall frenzy kicks in. This episode dives deep into how to establish a roadmap for our finances, ensuring we don’t lose sight of those ambitions we set at the start of the year. From learning about the importance of having a vision – because, let’s face it, without one, we’re just wandering aimlessly – to setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals, Ralph makes it feel like a breeze. He reminds us that it’s not about beating ourselves up for drifting but about picking ourselves up, focusing on what truly matters, and getting back on track with purpose and confidence. Plus, there's some solid scripture to guide us along the way, emphasizing that clarity and purpose aren’t just financial concepts but life principles too.

    Takeaways:

    • Summer is cruising by, and before we know it, fall will be here, so let’s get ahead of our finances now!
    • If you're feeling financially lost, setting clear goals today can steer you back on track.
    • Having a solid financial roadmap is crucial; without it, you're gonna struggle to reach your goals!
    • Setting smart financial goals is key: make them specific, measurable, and time-bound for better results.
    • To stop drifting financially, we need to write down our goals and keep them visible daily.
    • Align your financial goals with your values, because where there's no vision, we just might perish.
