    Becoming Financially Confident

Breaking Free from Financial Shame, one conversation at a time.

Most money advice assumes you already know what you’re doing. This show doesn’t.
Becoming Financially Confident is a live weekday show for people who want to get their financial life in order without being lectured, judged, or sold something. Host Ralph Estep Jr. is a Licensed Public Accountant with more than 30 years of experience sitting across the desk from real people and real businesses — the shoebox of receipts, the tax notice nobody wants to open, the budget that never quite balances. He has made his own expensive mistakes, and he talks about them openly.

This is not a new voice. Ralph has published more than 1,200 episodes across eight seasons, earned national recognition for his work, and written nearly a thousand articles on money, taxes, technology, and small business. Becoming Financially Confident is the next chapter of that same show, in the same feed — sharper, live, and built around one idea: you are capable of figuring this out.

Every show opens with Headlines: what happened in the money world, and why it matters to your money and not just somebody’s portfolio. From there, the recurring segments include:

Do the Math — one real financial decision run all the way to the number.
The Envelope — a full teardown of a single financial product, account, or government program.
Yes or No — a question that usually gets “well, it depends” gets an actual answer.
Side Hustle Corner — what a side gig really pays after expenses, self-employment tax, and the hours nobody counts.
Explain It Like I’m Broke — plain-English translation of the jargon that keeps people from asking.
Scam of the Week — the ones running right now, and how to spot them before they cost you.
Bill of the Week — a line-by-line look at something everybody pays and almost nobody reads.
Homework — one task, free, finishable in fifteen minutes, with a check-in before the week is out.
Wins of the Week — listeners who did the thing, and what actually happened when they did.
What It Cost Me — Ralph puts his own money mistakes on the table.

This show is for the person making good money who still can’t say where it goes. The couple who have been meaning to build a budget for four years. The 52-year-old who opened the retirement statement and closed it again. The freelancer who just got a tax bill they weren’t expecting. If you have ever felt like everyone else got a manual you never received, you are the reason this show exists.

Here is the thing nobody says out loud: most people aren’t stuck because they lack discipline. They’re stuck because they’re ashamed — of the balance, of the mistake, of the years they didn’t start. Shame keeps the statement unopened and the question unasked, and an unasked question never gets answered. So this show asks them out loud, without flinching and without judgment, and then hands you the actual tools.

    Not just informed. Equipped.

Live at 11:30 AM Eastern, Monday through Friday, with the full episode in your podcast feed by 5:00 PM the same day. Weekly highlights drop every Saturday.

Ralph Estep Jr., LPA, is the founder of Saggio Management Group, an accounting practice he has run in Middletown, Delaware for more than 30 years. He is a financial educator, author, business coach, and podcast host.

As we reflect, let’s also remember to celebrate the good stuff that God carried us through. Those moments that felt mundane but were actually miraculous? Yeah, let’s recognize them. Gratitude opens our hearts and clears our minds, making room for peace. And hey, it’s crucial to identify lessons instead of labels. We’re not defined by our mistakes; we’re defined by how we grow from them. So as we prepare to step boldly into 2026, let’s take a moment to ask ourselves what we want to carry forward. Some things, like growth and healing, deserve a front-row seat. But others, like regret and shame? Nah, they can stay behind. Let’s pack wisely for the journey ahead, my friends!

    Takeaways:

    • Before jumping into 2026, we gotta slow down and let go of 2025's baggage with grace.

    • You can't carry regret into the new year; it’s about releasing what weighs you down.
    • Celebrate the good from last year, no matter how small, to bring peace into your heart.
    • Identify the lessons learned instead of labeling mistakes; let growth be your focus moving forward.
    • Not everything from last year deserves a spot in your 2026 journey; choose wisely what to carry forward.

    Afraid You’ll Stall Again? Dec 31, 2025
    Show notes

Today, we’re diving into why New Year’s resolutions can be more pressure than pleasure. Let’s be real. Who hasn’t set some grand goal only to crash and burn by week two? Afraid You’ll Stall Again? I mean, I’m usually done by day two, sometimes even hour two! Instead of hyper-focusing on those fleeting resolutions, we’re chatting about discipleship and building a steady rhythm for growth that sticks around long after the confetti’s gone. Because let’s face it, in the kingdom of God, being faithful beats being flashy any day. So, grab your coffee, take a deep breath, and let’s explore how to walk this journey together without the January hustle.

    Read today's blog article

Check out the full podcast episode here

As we wrap up the year, the last day can feel like a real pressure cooker for many folks. Instead of just throwing a party hat on and shouting 'Happy New Year,' let's take a sec to chill, breathe, and think about what really matters. You know those resolutions we all get hyped about? Yeah, I mean, who hasn’t crashed and burned by the second week, right? It’s like we start off with all the hope in the world, but then life hits, and we’re left wondering why we can’t keep the momentum going. Spoiler alert: it’s not about the resolutions, fam. It’s about the journey. We dive deep into why spiritual growth and financial stability are not sprints but marathons—slow, steady, and super important. It’s all about faithfulness over intensity, and that’s the kind of wisdom we want to carry into the new year.

So, we’re not just talking about setting goals; we’re exploring how to build a rhythm that lasts beyond January. Seriously, who wants to be that person with a dead resolution by February? We chat about how a supportive community, consistent habits, and a sprinkle of accountability can totally change the game. Plus, we throw in some wisdom from Eugene Peterson about that long obedience in the same direction. It’s all about the journey, not just the destination. By the end of this episode, you’ll be ready to tackle the new year with a fresh perspective and a plan that’s all about growth and grace. Trust me, it’s gonna be a journey worth taking.

    Takeaways:

    • The pressure of New Year's resolutions can be overwhelming, but it's important to focus on lasting growth rather than quick fixes.
    • Instead of making intense resolutions, consider establishing simple, consistent financial rhythms that actually last throughout the year.
    • A supportive community, repeatable rhythms, and gentle accountability are key ingredients for sustainable transformation in your life.
    • Walking with God and having a supportive community can lighten your financial journey and keep you accountable.
    • Transforming your finances isn't a sprint; it's about the steady walk you take with faith and purpose over time.
    • Instead of chasing perfection, focus on consistency and direction in your financial journey; that's where real growth happens.

I’ve realized these thoughts are just old, worn-out scripts I’ve been replaying for years, and it’s time for a serious rewrite.

The heart of this episode is all about shifting my mindset. I’ve had to face a hard truth: fixed thinking is like a straitjacket on my financial growth. What I tell myself over and over eventually becomes my reality. If I keep saying I’m terrible with money, I’m going to live that story out. But here’s the game changer: God wants to renew my mind, and that renewal can completely transform how I handle my finances. This journey isn’t just about numbers—it’s about identity. I can learn, grow, and change, and I share a bit of my own story to show that transformation is possible. So if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed or stuck in a financial rut, I get it. I’ve been right there too. Show notes

Today is all about flipping the script on what we think wealth really is. Chasing the Wrong Treasure? Christmas isn’t just about the gifts and chaos; it’s a chance to reset our hearts and remember that true riches come from Christ, not our bank accounts. You know, Jesus showed up in this world with nothing but meaning and purpose, and he’s here to teach us that our worth isn't tied to our cash flow. So, let’s dive into how we can put Christ at the center of our finances and make decisions that actually matter. We’re gonna chat about finding peace over pressure and how to let go of the stress that comes with money. Grab a cozy spot and let’s get into it!

Today feels like a sacred moment for me—a day to slow down, reflect, and remind myself of what truly matters. In this episode, I take you with me on a journey of understanding wealth through a spiritual lens, flipping the script on what the world tells us about riches. I dive deep into the heart of Christmas and how this season—so often swallowed up by shopping, pressure, and noise—is actually an invitation to reset our definition of wealth.

Jesus didn’t enter this world in a palace; He arrived in the humblest of settings. That truth reminds me that real wealth isn’t about the size of my bank account but the condition of my heart. This episode isn’t just about money—it’s about aligning my treasures with my values and seeking a deeper connection with Christ. I share personal stories and practical reminders, like choosing faithfulness over fame and keeping Christ at the center of every financial decision I make. True wealth, I’ve learned, comes from a heart rooted in Jesus. My hope is to encourage you—as I encourage myself—to step back from the noise and refocus on what truly matters.

As I sit with these thoughts, I also wrestle with a question many of us face: how do I keep Christ at the forefront of my finances when life gets loud? This isn’t just a philosophical idea—it’s real life, especially when the pressure of money and materialism starts to weigh heavy. I challenge myself (and you) to shift the question from “How much do I have?” to “Who has my heart?” Through stories and practical steps, I walk through how aligning my financial choices with my faith brings clarity, peace, and confidence. It’s a simple but powerful truth: when my heart is focused on Christ, everything else—including my finances—starts to make a whole lot more sense.

    Takeaways:

    • Christmas reminds us that true wealth is not about money but about spiritual richness.
    • In this chaotic world, we need to focus on what truly matters, like faith and love.
    • Jesus came into this world poor to show us that our true treasure is Him.
    • If you want to live with Christ at the center, you gotta let Him lead your finances.

Like, how many of us get caught up in the chaos and forget to give ourselves a pat on the back? Seriously, whether you paid off a credit card, started saving a little cash, or just managed to keep your plants alive, those are all wins worth celebrating, my friends. We chat about how progress isn’t about perfection; it’s about those faithful steps—even if they’re small. We also explore how embracing gratitude can shift our mindset and help us see the blessings in our lives. So, grab a cozy drink, and let’s reminisce about the year and all the good stuff we achieved, no matter how messy it was!
