    Be My Neighbor

Hey Y’all – We’re Bevin and Brittney. Welcome to “Be My Neighbor.” Our neighborly duties are to provide real life solutions and practices that elevate and inspire, but also remind us to not take it all too seriously.

We’re real life neighbors that quickly learned that you simply cannot do it on your own, living in a competitive and fast paced environment like New York City.

We don’t just share the sugar, we serve up the real tea. Each week, we invite you into the apartment along with our metaphorical and literal neighbors to share advice on how we get through this thing called life.

From navigating relationships to building a career, we want you to recognize and embrace the best version of YOU. We want you to know that your “crazy” is ok, and that you’re definitely not alone.

Our door is always open, and we want you to know… we’ve got your back.

    CANCELLED. Mar 19, 2020
    Show notes

    Cancelled. It’s all cancelled.

Over the past few days, we have had our close friends and many of you reach out regarding all the COVID cancellations of major life events – weddings, baby showers, bachelorettes, girls trips. All events that you have been planning over a year and taken from you so quickly. It’s all scary, especially when you’ve been working so hard to make something so special.

Many of you reached out because you remember when Britt’s wedding was postponed back in September 2018 due to Hurricane Florence – we spoke about it all in Episode 3 – “Making Lemonade.”

As hard and sucky it was, with friends and family supporting them, Britt and Ryan got through it and always saw the silver lining. We don’t know why it happened at that exact moment, but also knew that things always, always could have been worse. These events will be rescheduled and if your friends are good friends, like their team was, they will make that moment EVEN better when it does happen.

Another one of our amazing guests – @JeraBean is choosing to not cancel her wedding, but instead broadcast it LIVE from Central Park tomorrow-! Talk about not getting down!

We both have never been through something like this and it’s a wonder of what having a neighbor close by can be. We’re so grateful to have each other, but also know that many of you have to be inside by yourselves and may be going (a little) stir crazy. For those on the brink, Bevin has partnered with her Soul literal sister, the incredible @Karynnez for “cancelled workouts” – the first one just went live yesterday, and it’s a good one, so you can check that out now in their stories. We’re also going to host a Cancelled” Zoom for all of our brides, bachelorettes and fellow entrepreneurs this coming Monday- nothing annoying, just a space to be open-minded and share how y’all are readjusting your plans through all of this.

Look out for that info on our social and until then, we hope you can continue to breathe through this new “cancelled” normal, find little bits of fun and put your plans into action with this episode.

    Happy Non-VDAY / VDAY Feb 14, 2020
    Show notes

We haven’t talked about relationships in a while, and in the spirit of not “really” celebrating Valentine’s Day, here’s our best shot at our “NON-Valentine’s day,” episode for you. We wanted to answer some of the questions that YOU have asked us to talk about in this one, and we really go there. We’ve come a long way and dated a lot of special ones. From advice to meeting someone you really like, dating deal breakers from our vast romantical escapades, how long you should wait after you start dating (we’re very divided in on this one), it’s raw, honest an real. Just how we like it. Happy Non-VDAY/VDAY. Bev & Britt

The holidays are A LOT. We know. Whether it’s deciding where to spend them (which family gets which day), or how you cope with being at home for an extended period of time and not going out of your mind, it can be stressful.

In this episode, we talk about our holiday plans, how we divide the celebration with families and in-laws and some helpful tactics to maximize the time we’re fortunate enough to spend with the ones we love.

How are you guys spending the holidays this year? Tips and tricks to stay sane are most welcomed.

    Sincerely, Bevin & Brittney

BE MY NEIGHBOR EP. 27: The Carrie Chronicles with Carrie Berk Dec 06, 2019
    Show notes

This week we bring to you by far the youngest person to come to the apartment --bestselling author of twenty-one books (!), digital content creator, social media influencer and anti-bullying activist – Carrie Berk! At only sixteen years old, Carrie wrote her first book in the 2nd grade and is using her voice to impact young girls across the nation.

We didn’t know what to expect from Carrie and were both pleasantly surprised by her grace and maturity. She taught us a lot about social media (we even did a TikTok with her! YEP) and we got into the bullying issue and some of the helpful tactics we have both utilized growing up.

In a world where the younger generation seems to get a lot of flak, we love seeing a positive effect that Carrie imparts on others, and know we will be seeing much more of her in the years to come – paging @VOGUE.

BE MY NEIGHBOR EP. 26: Exhale to Inhale with Zoë LePage Nov 27, 2019
    Show notes

This episode brought us back to why we wanted to start Be My Neighbor in the first place. At times it left us speechless, which y’all know never happens. We had been wanting to sit down with Zoë LePage for a while and so glad we finally had her to the apartment.

Zoë is an extraordinary women that serves as the founder and executive director of Exhale to Inhale, a non-profit that brings the healing power of yoga to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, especially those who could benefit from the practice, yet might not otherwise have access to it. She started the non-profit when she was 23 years old and kept it going in tandem with her grueling consulting job.

Domestic and sexual violence is not just something that happens to others. With 1 in 3 women in the United States, and 1 in 7 men being survivors of this type of violence, it’s trauma has likely impacted your sister, your daughter, your mother, and/or someone else you love.

From speaking through the personal growing pains of starting a non-profit and shifting her career to head up Exhale to Inhale full time, the benefits of yoga for trauma, to how you can seek help or contribute to the organization, this episode served as a reminder of how grateful and thankful we are to have the ability to impart our voices upon y’all. To contribute to the importance of giving back and serving others, our cups are full. Happy Thanksgiving y’all.

Be My Neighbor Ep. 25: Can I Borrow That? Founders of TULERIE – Merri Smith and Violet Gross Nov 16, 2019
    Show notes

With a closet full of clothes, yet somehow nothing to wear, the TULERIE app is helping women nationwide singlehandedly solve that problem. They’re allowing you to do something that we do EVERY DAY, to raid each other’s closets as if you were living directly next door!

We sat down with the founders of TULERIE – Merri Smith and Violet Gross, and they broke down their visions for expanding your wardrobe across the country, peer to peer.

    In this episode we talk:

-How the ladies took the leap in starting their own tech-derived business as Violet was simultaneously giving birth to her first child.

-How they pivoted when their first idea that was already in beta, was launched, by someone “very famous,” making them go back to the drawing board.

-Taking on a customer service based business that doesn’t “clock out” at 6 PM … or ever.

-How they grew their TULERIE waiting list to over 3,000 people !

We’d love to hear your thoughts and comments and would love to know if you would share your closet with someone you have never met before?!

Be My Neighbor Ep. 24: LET. IT. GLOW with the founders of GlowBar, Neha Govindraj & Rachel Liverman Oct 03, 2019
    Show notes

And, we’re back. We’re so excited to release this episode with an actual neighbor from our building, Neha Govindraj @nehagov and her incredible partner Rachel Liverman @rachelista – the badass founders of one of our biggest new skincare obsessions - @Glowbar. We just visited the Tribeca location and are both going back on our own.

If you haven’t heard of the business that everyone’s been talking about here in NYC, @Glowbar is the spa-like experience that offers only 30-minute, custom skincare treatments ranging from any combination of chemical peels, extractions, dermaplaning, high-frequency and micro-current vibrations, and LED lights. Because who has honestly has the time and the dollars to pay for all of these every month? The best part about it - there only two price-points: $65 for a one-time treatment and $55 per monthly treatment with a membership.

We go in with Rachel and Neha about how they really started their business, what it took to launch (Did they quit their jobs first ? Have funding in place? Investors and raising funding? ) and what it felt like to take that risk. And how Rachel felt starting the business as a single woman, not taking a salary for over a year. The real sacrifices that you have to make in order to get what you want. At this point, we were more listening and writing down their advice, than actually hosting.

We would love to hear what y’all think of this one – we love the authentic notes behind it. And, as a special gift for our neighbors – if you follow us and @Glowbar and comment below, you will be entered to win a complimentary GlowBar appointment!!

*You can be from NYC or coming in for a visit!
