THE LIZZIE MCGUIRE MOVIE|| sing to us Paolo! Jan 04, 2021

Show notes

Tyler kicks off 2021 with guests Hannah Brown(@hannahabrown LA based actor, writer and host of the hit pod Not Aspirational with Hannah Brown) and Clayton Joyner (@cajoyne Chicago based actor and member of the casting community) to recap this iconic DCOM classic. There are so many things to note here, but most glaringly is THE LOW RISE BOOTCUT JEANS OF IT ALL. Also cartoon lizzie is so unnecessary and the idea of wearing platform flip-flops at the airport makes us nearly vomit. And y'all in case you forgot--GORDO IS HOT, WE SAID WHAT WE SAID. Truly we just always want an excuse to dream about an escape to Rome and how sexy it would be (please someone take us to a teeny Italian village and let us live out our pasta dreams). Honestly, the plot is two steps away from 'Taken' starring Liam Neeson but we are still here for it. And the true star of this film, aside from the crop tops and overuse of lime green clothing, is Melina --Matt's BFF and truly the baddest B around. Magical music by Eric Backus.

THE SANTA CLAUSE|| seeing isn’t believing, believing is seeing. Dec 28, 2020

Show notes

Tyler and guest Miranda Lee (@themagicalmiranda digital creator, youtuber and owner of @planthemagic) round out the holiday season with this 90’s classic. Miranda is a festive queen and we love to see how she goes all in for the holidays, including her love of this film! It’s important to note that TIM ALLEN can get it, especially mid-90’s Tim Allen. Also remember car phones? ..just us? We have great respect for the reads of Scott Calvin directed at Neil, because Neil has GOT TO GO. And we additionally have major love for Bernard and Judy, as they are the baddest elves up at the North Pole and the unsung heroes of this flick. Truly the 90’s of it all in this films aesthetic is ever so pleasing and we love revisiting those days of yore. Happy holidays y’all! Magical music by Eric Backus.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST ENCHANTED CHRISTMAS|| the holiday sequel we didn't ask for but definitely the one that we deserved Dec 21, 2020

Show notes

Tyler and guest Sarah Price (Chicago based actor and comedian) are back to chat all things B & B holiday version. We are fully in the festive spirit as we discuss this holiday off shoot of our fav disney classic. We have thoughts and questions a plenty: why Adam is so much hotter in this version than in the original, how Bernadette Peters and Haley Joel Osment ended up in the same holiday classic, how the original cast graced us with their presence and talent on an Non Alan Menken composed romp. Also should be noted that this cast is stacked for absolutely no reason--looking at you SIR TIM CURRY--but we truly love to see this holiday mess of a film. We also would love to know why Forte prefers to be an organ that can't move, why Fife looks like he was animated to be in a Saturday morning Warner Brothers cartoon, and how can we achieve the level of magical Christmas shade of Angelique. Magical Music but Eric Backus.

MUPPETS CHRISTMAS CAROL || is there literally any other version of Christmas carol? no, no there's not. Dec 14, 2020

Show notes

Tyler and guest Zach Villa (@zachvilla AHS 1984) spend an hour doing impressions of muppets and gushing over the brilliance of Michael Caine, with absolutely no regrets. Muppets and Christmas and Charles Dickens and an iconic British actor--what else is there to say? We share all of our love for the muppets, the beautifully decorated sound stage AKA the streets of Dickensian London and how truly harrowing this tale is. If anyone can present evidence of a better and more heartfelt performance to a puppet than MICHAEL FREAKING CAINE in this film, we would be shock and awed. Magical Music by Eric Backus.

I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS|| JTT and a holiday rom com? SIGN US RIGHT UP! Dec 07, 2020

Show notes

Tyler and guest Hannah brown (@hannahabrown LA based Actor, Writer and pod host of Not Aspirational with Hannah Brown and You Know You Love Us) live out our 90's JTT fantasies via this classic holiday cross country romp. We are insufferably festive and no one can stop us as we celebrate this ICONIC JTT film-- not only is JTT a worldly man in the form of an child star, Jessica Biel is more stunning and confident than we have ever been in our entire lives. This film has it all: the beepers of yore, JTT in a Santa suit, a gross antagonist named Eddie--Also remember PAPER ROAD MAPS?? We miss taking road trips with paper maps a la The Goofy Movie. This is a holiday classic with a sound track that slaps and we fa la freaking la love to see it! Magical music by Eric Backus.

SNOW WHITE|| high collars and higher drama y'all! Dec 03, 2020

Show notes

Tyler and Guest Clayton Joyner (@cajoyne Chicago based artist) go alllllll the way to back to the very beginning with the first feature length Disney film ever! Listen, this is not necessarily our fav disney princess flick, BUT Snow White can rock a cape like no one's business. This is a TALE AS OLD AS TIME YALL: the Evil Queen is worried about her hotness and youth being threatened by a pretty young princess--it's basically the plot of every season of Housewives EVER. Some important things of note: tan small-heeled character shoes do no one any damn favors, the prince just sneaks up on snow and ruins her day AND SONG when she's just trying to sing to her wishing well, the beautiful gems of the mine comfort us it ways we will never understand, and NO ONE can serve a cape and a sensible shriek like our girl Snow. Let's be honest-- this film is just a string of extended dance party montages and we aren't mad about that. Magical Music by Eric Backus.

HOME ALONE||now a disney entity, this film is a freaking holiday dream come true Nov 30, 2020

Show notes

Tyler and guest Will Alan (@wellthatwentwill LA based actor and playwright) tackle this actual perfect holiday classic. We are so excited to welcome back our resident sports and Home Alone expert to chat about his favorite film of all time. Not only did Will recreate all of these traps as a child, he knows everything about this film and shares all of his knowledge to start off the holiday season right! We connect over our airport anxiety, how Mitch Murphy is the unsung hero of the film and how much Uncle Frank sucks. Sure the timeline is questionable, the idea that they could ever make an international flight at O'hare from a northern Chicago suburb in 45 minutes is in fact impossible-- but none of that matters because this is still one of the greatest movies of all time! Catherine O'Hara is basically the Meryl Streep of comedy, John Williams is a composer that none of us are worthy of and this hijinks filled film is truly nothing short of pure magic. Magical music by Eric Backus.

TOY STORY|| lets take it back to the beginning y'all where nostalgia reigns and RANDY NEWMAN IS KING Nov 16, 2020

Show notes

Tyler and returning guest star co-host Sarah Price (Chicago based actor and comedian) begin their TOY STORY journey with original smash hit that shaped our millennial childhoods in the 90's. Not only is this truly a cornerstone of modern animation, it has a literal PERFECT cast led by America's dads--Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. Things of note: Buzz Lightyear can get it, Randy Newman creates one of the most simple and iconic scores of all time, and the little green guys are in a cult but we still love them. Ultimately all we really want as humans is to be take to PIZZA PLANET and to be able to overcome the fear of being replaced in all aspects of our lives OKAY?! We will forever treasure this iconic Pixar classic--stay tuned for the rest of our TOY STORY SERIES! Magical Music by Eric Backus.

BOLT|| Miley Cyrus leads this banger of an underrated film with a stellar cast Nov 09, 2020

Show notes

Tyler and guest Keira Fromm (@keirafromm Chicago based director) discuss a movie that makes us both weep over the cuteness of a puppy. I mean John Travolta is the cutest dog we've ever seen, Susie Essman as MITTENS the alley cat is truly unmatched and Mark Walton as Rhino the Hamster gives an honestly Oscar worthy performance. Show us a film that gives you more hamster hijinks, badass alley cat vibes and deals with exploitation of animals in Hollywood--all while wrapped in a Truman Show esthetic-- THERE ARE NONE I SAY. Magical music by Eric Backus.

THOR:RAGNAROK|| PART TWO--it's still perfect + Hulk + Jeff Goldblum + Tessa Thompson Nov 05, 2020

Show notes

Tyler and guest Halley Mayo (Arkansas based actor) and Grant Hockenbrough (@granthock LA based actor) finish our two part series highlighting this practically perfect film. We get Hela in full force, JEFF FREAKING GOLDBLUM, Tessa Thompson is hot AF and HULK is there with a great story arc to round everything out. Idris Elba is there to make us fall in love, Odin makes us cry, Loki is a star and Skurge + Korg are some of the best characters in the MCU--we said what we said. This film is a damn delight, start to freaking finish and Thor has a great butt, so there's also that. Magical Music by Erik Backus.
