Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Wolfsburg vs. Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) Dec 19, 2023
    Show notes

Bayern Munich will travel to Wolfsburg to take on old friend Niko Kovač and his middling Wolves.

    Should Bayern Munich win? Yes.

    Should it be easy? Probably.

Will it? Eh...let’s not talk about that just yet.

The good news is that Bayern Munich looked like itself in dispatching VfB Stuttgart and could be on the right track. The bad news is that the team has accumulated a lot of wear and tear during the Hinrunde and could be very tired heading into this road match.

Things could get complicated for the Bavarians.

Let’s get down to it, though, and see what is on tap for this episode:

    • A look at where each team is in the table and how the clubs are trending at the moment.
    • Some thoughts on Wolfsburg.
    • A complete guess at how Thomas Tuchel will line his squad up against Wolfsburg.
    • A prediction on the match.

Bavarian Podcast Works S6E23: Did Bayern Munich get lucky by drawing Lazio? + Thomas Tuchel’s “new” system analyzed Dec 18, 2023
    Show notes

So the Champions League draw has been finalized and Bayern Munich will face SS Lazio — a game that is a repeat of the 2021 Round of 16 tie that the Bavarians won under Hansi Flick. In other news, Bayern bounced back from the horrible 5-1 drubbing to Eintracht Frankfurt with a superlative 3-0 win over Stuttgart which really couldn’t have gone better.

In this episode, INNN and Chuck discuss the following:

    • Why the Champions League draw seems to have generated so little buzz.
    • A rundown of the various games and who is expected to go through.
    • Is SS Lazio a scary opponent for this current Bayern Munich team?
    • What is the current direction of Bayern Munich under Thomas Tuchel?
    • The future of certain key players — will Thomas Muller, Aleksander Pavlovic, and Raphael Guerreiro find themselves getting more minutes in the future?
    • The tug of war between the board and the players, with Joshua Kimmich at the center.
    • Bundesliga or Champions League — which would you prefer? Chuck and INNN disagree.

    Show notes

Bayern Munich has had another eventful week, even if was not pleasing to the eye.

After getting routed by Eintracht Frankfurt, the boys traveled to Old Trafford to put the final nail in the coffin for Manchester United’s European hopes.

How did that old Facts of Life song, go again?

Anyway, the stories off the field were probably more intriguing than what happened on the pitch, so we have plenty to talk about. Why not get get started? Here is what we have on tap for this episode:

    • Reason No. 7777 why I am a bonehead.
    • Discussing the potential Champions League draw candidates for Bayern Munich.

Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs. VfB Stuttgart (Bundesliga) Dec 13, 2023
    Show notes

Bayern Munich is set to face off against VfB Stuttgart in what is a massive Bundesliga match.

The Bavarians were boat-raced last weekend by Eintracht Frankfurt (5-1 in case you blocked out that bad memory), while Die Schwaben are coming off of a big 1-1 draw with league leader Bayer Leverkusen.

Clearly, this will not be a cakewalk for the Bavarians, who desperately need to put together a string of good performances to really get fans back on board:

    • A look at where each team is in the table.
    • A guess at Thomas Tuchel’s lineup, which could be missing some familiar faces.
    • Why VfB Stuttgart is no slouch.
    • Alexander Nübel’s role in the match and will he get a taste of the revenge that we all know that he wants.
    • A prediction on the match.

Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Manchester United 0-1 Bayern Munich (Champions League) Dec 12, 2023
    Show notes

Bayern Munich faced off with Manchester United in the final Champions League group stage game that meant nothing for the Bavarians, but could potentially have been important for the Red Devils.

In the end, Bayern Munich escaped England with a 1-0 victory that was neither fun, nor convincing. Let’s take a look at what is on tap for this episode:

    • A look at Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI.
    • A recap of the scoring and the subs.
    • Some thoughts and analysis on the match.
    • Why is Harry Kane operating as more of a midfielder than a striker (isn’t he with Bayern Munich to score goals)?
    • A much better effort from the backline.
    • Some words on the disappointment and frustration with the attack.
    • A take on the scandalous story that broke before the match, what it means for Bayern Munich’s core group, and why it might really be time to start questioning the power and control that Tuchel holds in Bavaria.

Bavarian Podcast Works S6E22: Why does Bayern Munich still keep Thomas Tuchel around? + Manchester United UCL preview Dec 10, 2023
    Show notes

So Bayern Munich have just been thrashed by Eintracht Frankfurt and the mood around the team is rather grim. The final group stage game of the Champions League is coming up, and while top spot in the group is secure, the team needs to show a good performance in order to recover from a 5-1 loss. Ironically, Erik ten Hag’s United team require the same, setting up a game between two sides beset by problems.

In this episode, INNN and Samrin discuss the following:

    • Why can’t Bayern Munich play good football under Thomas Tuchel?
    • A question of talent — how much does Bayern have? How much does the coach need?
    • The long string of poor performances under Tuchel discussed.
    • Comparing the arguments in favor of Tuchel to the arguments for Carlo Ancelotti and Niko Kovac.
    • The problem of “leadership” and Tuchel’s alienation of leaders.
    • What would it take for Tuchel to get sacked at this point?
    • Should there be rotation versus Manchester United?
    • What happens if Tuchel has another disappointing game?
    • Where should Bayern Munich go from here?

Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) Dec 09, 2023
    Show notes

Bayern Munich went out and got walloped 5-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt that was powered by a completely erratic and dysfunctional first half that set the tone for the entire match.

When it comes down to it, though, Eintracht Frankfurt was better prepared, more energetic, and simply wanted it more than the Bavarians.

It was disappointing to say the least, so let’s get right to it! Here is what we have on tap for this episode:

    • A look at Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI...who was (surprisingly) in and out.
    • A rundown of the substitutes and scoring.
    • Why is Bayern Munich making odd adjustments to play against teams it is better than?
    • The backline was a disaster.
    • Some common themes whenever the attack struggle (and why it could be bad if Leroy Sané is slumping).
    • Some thoughts and analysis on what is all means moving forward.

    • The Snow Day effect hits Bayern Munich!
    • Bayern Munich’s decision to stay home for winter training camp.
    • Taking a look at Bayern Munich’s big signing of Granada attacker Bryan Zaragoza and what it might mean for the team’s roster.
