    #269 - Unmasking the Idol (1986) Jul 03, 2026
    Show notes

James, Mattila, Nicole, and Danger Dave dive headfirst into the gloriously ridiculous 1986 ninja action flick Unmasking the Idol! Expect chainmail masks, a weather balloon escape, the most intelligent baboon in cinema history (Boone!), piranha pits, a hot tub full of ninjas, and more questionable decision-making than you can shake a throwing star at.

This one starts strong with over-the-top action and only gets wilder from there. The crew roasts the plot holes, debates whether it’s a parody or just straight-up unhinged, and tries to survive the slowest, most balloon-dependent mission in movie history. Is it a bad movie that rules? Tune in to find out!

From Russia With Love (1963) - Die Another Episode PREVIEW Jun 30, 2026
    Show notes

This is an extended sample from our new James Bond show, Die Another Episode, and we can't wait to talk through every James Bond movie! Want the whole thing? Click the link below to become a Patreon supporter!

    https://www.patreon.com/badmoviesrule

James and Chuck dive into the second Bond film — the one that truly made 007 a global phenomenon — while a massive thunderstorm tries to wash them (and the new studio) off the map. Soaked shorts, bare feet on the third floor during a tornado watch, thunder on cue, and zero shoes?

They break down the bigger budget, exotic locations, and the squad that returned from Dr. No (same director, same writers, even more grand scale). Robert Shaw as the chilling Grant, Lotte Lenya’s brass-knuckled Rosa Klebb, a very young Daniela Bianchi as Tatiana, the debut of Q and his briefcase of wonders, gypsy camp chaos, that legendary train fight, helicopter mayhem, boat chases, and all the tropes this movie cemented for the franchise.

Expect plenty of tangents: leg doubles, poison shoes, Spectre’s loudspeaker addiction, chess tournament stress, and whether red wine really does go with fish. Plus heartfelt chat about why this one still hits so hard.

If you love the riffs, the breakdowns, and surviving natural disasters just to talk Bond with the boys, this one’s a blast. Grab your martini (shaken, not stirred) and join us!

Thanks for supporting the show — your patronage keeps the lights on (and the rain off our shorts).

    Show notes

James and Clint hold down the fort (with Bob & Joe crashing later) for a stacked mailbag full of physical mail! Nathan delivers an unbelievable Last Action Hero Jack Slater standee that had the studio losing it, plus postcards, movie gifts, and fan letters. We dive into Bermuda Triangle suggestions, Fist of Jesus action, Freaked, car vs. bike movie debates, burning door science experiments, and more. Heartfelt stories, live show hype for Smokey Tony’s on July 25th, and plenty of laughs.

Send physical mail to P.O. Box 383, Burlington, WI 53105. Emails to thisshowistrash@gmail.com or voicemails to (262) 757-8567.

    #268 - Over the Top (1987) Jun 26, 2026
    Show notes

Sylvester Stallone climbs into the cab, flips his hat backwards, and turns into a truck for the ultimate arm-wrestling father-son redemption tour in Over the Top (1987)! We’re hauling a full load of sweaty truck stops, Kenny Loggins montages, military school attitude, and real-life arm wrestling legends as we finally tackle the movie you’ve been begging us to cover.

Join James, Mel Vande, Danger Dave, and Brian as they break down Stallone’s poignant (and completely ridiculous) dramedy about deadbeat dads, Bowflex pull-downs in the cab, and one very determined grandpa. Expect plenty of “meet me halfway across the sky” sing-alongs, debates over whether the kid is a prick or just misunderstood, and way too much discussion about tuna salad and lot lizards.

Bad movies rule. This one might actually rule a little too hard.

Listen now and tell us: did Lincoln Hawk change your life, or are you still Team Grandpa?

We also dive deep into Jaws: The Revenge, including the wild true story of Michael Caine literally saving his life on set, the chaotic reshoots, and why his character became the ultimate voice of the audience. Lance shares thoughtful insights on acting against invisible effects, building character arcs, and the realities of big studio productions.

    Show notes

The BMR crew dives headfirst into the purple-tights jungle madness of The Phantom (1996) starring Billy Zane, Kristy Swanson, Treat Williams, and a very young Catherine Zeta-Jones!

From skull-chasing pirates and moon vines to ghost dads, super pistols, and one of the most confusing origin stories ever put on film, this episode is packed with unhinged riffs, dolphin milk debates, bridge disasters, and plenty of "how did we get here?" moments. The guys break down the campy action, questionable superpowers, and why this 1930s pulp throwback still has a dedicated cult following.

Casper Van Dien: Johnny Rico Himself on Starship Troopers, Patrick Muldoon & Bug Slaying Games! Jun 16, 2026
    Show notes

Johnny Rico himself, Casper Van Dien, joins the Bad Movies Rule! crew for a heartfelt, hilarious, and bug-stomping deep dive into Starship Troopers!

Casper opens up about stepping into the iconic role, the military roots that shaped his performance, Paul Verhoeven’s razor-sharp satire, and the unbreakable off-screen brotherhood with Patrick Muldoon and Denise Richards. From John Wayne homages in Starship Troopers 3 to replacing his best friend in a brand-new film, “kill them all” stories, military family pride, and why Rico remains one of the all-time great “idiots who steps up,” this one is packed with laughs, respect, and genuine emotion.

Plus: Casper recommends the cheesiest movie in his filmography for your next BMR watch party, talks video game voice work, and personally invites the BMRmy to drop into his Twitch streams and join the Roughnecks in Starship Troopers: Extermination.

If you love practical effects, unhinged 90s action, and real talk from the people who made the magic happen, this episode is for you.

    #266 - Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995) Jun 12, 2026
    Show notes

Join the BMR crew for a blood-soaked, booger-demon-filled ride through Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight (1995)! Billy Zane is an absolute menace (in the best way) as the slick, seductive Collector, squaring off against William Sadler's brooding hero Brayker in a converted church turned last stand. Throw in Jada Pinkett Smith, Thomas Haden Church, CCH Pounder, and a whole crew of desert weirdos, and you've got non-stop practical effects mayhem, exploding heads, green lightning, and enough "hot and squishy" tangents to make the Crypt Keeper blush.

The crew dives deep into the over-the-top gore, killer one-liners, '90s horror vibes, and why those practical demon transformations still hit harder than modern CGI slop. Expect unhinged riffs, Arnold recast debates, nipple battery debates, and plenty of heartfelt (and ridiculous) crew banter as they decide if this one earns its spot among the bad movies that rule.

If you're craving bloody siege horror, charismatic demons, and laughs with the BMRmy, this episode is your ticket. Lock the doors, grab the holy blood, and join the ride!
