There was another moment perhaps even more costly, though, in the eighth inning that involved Brandon Crawford taking a key at-bat with the bases loaded instead of the red-hot Michael Siani... And the explanation from Oli Marmol for managing the moment like he did simply fell flat.

Brenden Schaeffer discusses the Cardinals walk-off loss to the Cubs from Thursday night at Wrigley as Ryan Helsley picked a bad day to have a bad day.

Instead of riding into the rest of the weekend on a nice winning streak, the Cardinals were knocked down a peg by the rival Cubs who scored three in the ninth to come back from a multi-run deficit.

Down to their final strike, the Cubbies found a way.

Rather than set the tone for the weekend like we thought the Cardinals were doing with their right-handed-heavy start to the batting order (which ended up largely working out for Oli Marmol from those players performance in the game), we see the Cardinals have a real tough one slip away from their grasp.

We spend some time talking about who to blame and why the suggestions of Oli Marmol letting anyone other than Helsley ride the storm out in the ninth are just foolish.

McGreevy sailed through seven innings to make a great first impression at the big-league level.

Lance Lynn went on the IL, shuffling rotation plans.

And Tommy Pham not only continued to hit the cover off the ball, but has seemingly had his hard-nosed and fundamental style of baseball already permeate through the rest of the team. What a day for the Cardinals once again!

Brenden Schaeffer breaks down one of the games of the year as the Cardinals beat the Rangers 8-1 at Busch Stadium on Tuesday, trade deadline day, with newcomer and old friend Tommy Pham calling GAME in the fifth inning as he delivered a pinch-hit grand slam in front of a raucous crowd.

Pham showed exactly why the Cardinals needed him as Oli Marmol now has a fighting chance to do some interesting managerial moves. A RH bat like Pham coming off the bench is a luxury the Cardinals haven't had in a hot minute.

Lance Lynn pitched as well as he could tonight despite some tricky circumstances.

We'll see the debut of Michael McGreevy on Wednesday, apparently!

And the Dylan Carlson saga with the Cardinals has mercifully come to an end. We tell you our thoughts on that deal and plenty of other things from deadline day.
