Brenden Schaeffer discusses a mixed results type of night for Matthew Liberatore as the St. Louis Cardinals fell to the Pirates 8-4 at PNC Park on Monday.
Although Liberatore struck out seven and didn't walk anybody, he got bit by the big inning again and righties still seemed to feast on him. Is this considered progress or do we need to see more from his development?
The bullpen remains a touchy subject, too, as Chris Roycroft is struggling with command and falling short to this point of developing into the reliable weapon that Oliver Marmol could use out of him.
Offensively, this was a disappointing one for the Redbirds, but the newest Cardinal Yohel Pozo at least gave one awesome highlight and an epic bat flip!

Brenden Schaeffer discusses the situation surrounding the Cardinals pitching staff after an ugly loss on Friday saw the Redbirds hurlers walk EIGHT batters in surrounding 13 runs to Boston at Fenway.
Erick Fedde struggled from the jump, but nobody that came in behind him really did their jobs, either.
Is this a blip on the radar or a cause for legitimate concern that the pitching staff could hold back a team that is otherwise looking really encouraging with the way it is making things happen offensively? Let's break it down.

In the spirit of recent contract extensions around Major League Baseball for up-and-coming players like Kristian Campbell and Jackson Merrill, Brenden Schaeffer discusses his top five contract extension candidates from the St. Louis Cardinals who the team should consider trying to sign on long-term deals.
The key with many of these players is their high floors, which makes them relatively safe bets when it comes to offering early extensions.
Will the Cardinals do it? Perhaps not, for several reasons that we discuss. But it wouldn't hurt to ask these five players whether they are interested in locking into a new deal!

Brenden Schaeffer discusses the Cardinals 12-5 win over the Angels from Wednesday, April 2 as Ivan Herrera becomes the first Cardinal catcher in franchise history with three home runs in one game.
His unbelievable eruption offensively was far from the only story line Wednesday as Sonny Gray was tremendous until hitting a wall in the sixth, plus Contreras and Winn broke out of their slumps at the PERFECT time to help pick up their teammate.

Brenden Schaeffer discusses making a wrong turn off Tucker Blvd. to end up at Busch Stadium instead of Enterprise Center on Tuesday night.
The Cardinals lost in extras for the second game in a row and Brenden is evidently the world's biggest contrarian because he frankly didn't see anything to be overly mad about from Tuesday's game.
You can always debate and discuss and dissect certain moments, but the "controversial" topics from this game really end up falling flat when you consider the information that was known about those decisions in the moment rather than wait for the outcome to decide what the decision should have been.
Brenden explains what he means by this and rants about it a little. Sorry in advance.

Brenden Schaeffer breaks down the Cardinals first loss of the 2025 season, a 5-4 defeat in extra innings to the Angels at a sparsely populated Busch Stadium.
In front of the smallest crowd in Busch III's history, the Cardinals saw walks come back to haunt their pitchers, while not getting enough thump at the plate aside from solo homers by Nootbaar and Donovan off a lefty SP.
Key decisions and moments late came around to help determine the outcome. Ivan Herrera removed early for defensive reasons, Brendan Donovan with a mental mistake on a chopper in the 10th inning and a decision not to pinch-hit Nolan Gorman for Masyn Winn with the game on the line against a RHP.
We dive into Oliver Marmol's thoughts on a number of the key moments and whether we generally had much of an issue with the way the manager approached the key moments of this contest.

Brenden Schaeffer breaks down the reveal of the Cardinals opening day roster from Sunday morning as St. Louis ended up throwing some curveballs our way with some of these final decisions.
Liberatore in the rotation. McGreevy to Memphis. Victor Scott is the center fielder. Matz to the bullpen, but only for a little while? Siani still makes the team, but the odd man out had already been told he would make it? What happened there?
Let's break it down!
