CMP209: Getting Started with Docker on AWS Dec 01, 2017
    Show notes

AWS is an elastic, secure, flexible, and developer-centric ecosystem that serves as an ideal platform for Docker deployments. AWS offers the scalable infrastructure, APIs, and SDKs that integrate tightly into a development lifecycle and accentuate the benefits of the lightweight and portable containers that Docker offers. In this session, you learn the benefits of containers, learn about the Amazon EC2 Container Service, and understand how to use Amazon ECS to run containerized applications at scale in production.

CMP211: Getting Started with Serverless Architectures Dec 01, 2017
    Show notes

Serverless architectures let you build and deploy applications and services with infrastructure resources that require zero administration. In the past, you had to provision and scale servers to run your application code, install and operate distributed databases, and build and run custom software to handle API requests. Now, AWS provides a stack of scalable, fully-managed services that eliminates these operational complexities. In this session, you will learn about serverless architectures, their benefits, and the basics of the AWS's serverless stack (e.g., AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, and AWS Step Functions). We will discuss how to use serverless architectures for a variety of use cases including data processing, website backends, serverless applications, and “operational glue.” You will also get practical tips and tricks, best practices, and architecture patterns that you can take back and implement immediately.

CMP212: Zero to Lightspeed: Building production apps easily with Amazon Lightsail Dec 01, 2017
    Show notes

Whether you are launching a simple website or a scaled application, time to go live is a key consideration for your business. Amazon Lightsail is the easiest way to get started on AWS, letting you build and scale your infrastructure faster. In this session, we will walk you through how to use Lightsail to launch your application with a few clicks and scale it as needed for redundancy, traffic spikes, or intergalactic attack. With in-browser SSH and RDP access, easy server management, and in-console guidance, Lightsail provides all the tools needed for builders of all levels – no prior AWS experience required.

CMP213: GPU (G3) Applications in Media and Entertainment Workloads Dec 01, 2017
    Show notes

GPUs have a large application in Media and Entertainment workloads. From backend video processing and creation workloads such as VFX/Rendering, transcoding and broadcast playout to high-end creatives as well as video editing workloads. Backed by the NVIDIA Tesla M60 GPUs, G3 instances offer unparalleled power and flexibility to do complex modeling, 3D visualization, computer aided design, seismic visualization, video encoding. G3 instances are the first Amazon EC2 instances to support NVIDIA GRID Virtual Workstation capabilities, with streaming support for four monitors each with up to 4K resolution, and hardware encoding to support up to 10 High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) H.265 1080p30 streams or up to 18 H.264 1080p30 streams per GPU for faster video frame processing and improved image fidelity. In this session we will highlight two criticial Media workloads Video Editing via remote application streaming and Broadcast Playout origination from the AWS cloud. We will have Pop Media discuss their remote video editing in the cloud that enables secure remote, real-time editorial and image processing session views. This will be followed by Evertz regarding Discovery Channel's broadcast Playout application for several live Discovery channels currently.

CMP214: Simplifying Microsoft Architectures with AWS Dec 01, 2017
    Show notes

More customers are moving their Microsoft applications to AWS to become more agile, improve their security posture, and dramatically lower costs. Attend this session to learn how to architect fully available and scalable Microsoft environments on AWS. Find out how Microsoft solutions can leverage various AWS services to achieve more resiliency, reduce complexity, improve security, and increase scalability. We discuss how you can leverage AWS services to meet compliance and governance requirements for your Microsoft applications. We introduce DevOps concepts that you can deploy to help implement automation and repeatability. Learn how to plan authentication and authorization for hybrid cloud scenarios between your AWS and on-premises environments. Learn about common architecture patterns for network design, Active Directory, and business productivity solutions such as Dynamics AX, CRM, and SharePoint, and common scenarios for custom .NET and .NET Core with SQL deployments.

CMP215: Introducing Amazon EC2 P3 Instance - Featuring the Most Powerful GPU for Machine Learning Dec 01, 2017
    Show notes

Amazon EC2 P3 instances offer up to eight of the latest NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs, with up to 13X the speed of previous generation GPU instances. In this session, learn from Airbnb how they use machine learning to make their services smarter and more engaging for their customers and how they are using P3 instances to dramatically lower training time of their machine learning models while optimize costs.

CMP217: Scale In-Memory Workloads on Amazon EC2 X1 and X1e Instances with up to 4 TB of RAM Dec 01, 2017
    Show notes

Amazon EC2 X1 and X1e instances are designed to demand memory-optimized enterprise workloads, including production installations of SAP HANA, Microsoft SQL Server, Apache Spark, and Presto. Just recently released, x1e.32xlarge are our largest cloud-native instances yet, offering 4 TB of DDR4 memory per instance. Join this session for a detailed look into this new instance, and learn how enterprise customers are using these instances to run mission-critical workloads, such as SAP HANA, to realize greater speed and agility.

CMP218: AWS Compute: What's New in Amazon EC2, Containers and Serverless Dec 01, 2017
    Show notes

Matt Garman, Vice President of AWS Compute Services, will introduce the latest innovations in the Compute space. At this session, we will be announcing new Compute capabilities, as well as insights into some of the underlying thinking of what makes the AWS Compute business unique. This session will cover new announcements around capabilities for EC2 instances, EC2 networking, EC2 Spot Instances, Amazon Lightsail, Containers and Serverless.
