Host Adam Burke had a lot to talk about on today’s edition of The Bettor’s Box. He started with that crazy, insane, and wild Yankees vs. Twins series to lead off the Beyond the Box Score segment. Then he discussed A’s vs. Astros, Reds vs. Brewers, the rash of injuries over the last week, and then Cubs vs. Giants. A look at some RISP regression candidates and some interesting reliever splits finished off that portion of the show.
After that, it was time to recap line moves and there have been a lot of them to a pretty grand scale in recent weeks. Adam gave out picks over the course of the show for the Thursday card, including his favorite selection of the night. Finally, a preview of the weekend ahead touched on Yankees vs. Red Sox, Dodgers vs. Nationals, Astros vs. Cardinals, and Cubs vs. Brewers.

College Football Season Preview with Locky Lockerson Jul 24, 2019

Host Adam Burke got an advance copy of Ken Barkley’s college football guide and knew that the man known as Locky Lockerson had to come on the show to discuss it. The guys talked about what need this guide fills and what makes it so much different from the other guides that are out there. They talked about approaching championship and Heisman futures and why you may want to narrow your focus more than you think.
They talked about the stats that really matter when evaluating season win totals and when looking at teams coming into the season. Ken was also nice enough to share a couple win total picks with us, even though the guide isn’t available until Thursday July 25. You got a sneak peek at the benefits of this guide and a lot of beneficial college football insight along the way.

Host Adam Burke joined up with regular guest and sharp handicapper Ralph Michaels on the July 23 edition of BangTheBook Radio to discuss some college football season win totals and conference previews. The guys focused specifically on the Pac-12, Big 12, and Mountain West conferences. The Pac-12 looks competitive, but is there an elite team? The Big 12 looks like Oklahoma’s to lose once again – do they have challengers?
Our first Group of Five conference was the Mountain West, which is clearly down from last year. Boise State is a clear favorite, but with a new quarterback. The top contenders have fallen back a few notches. Because of that, Ralph is seeing some crazy upset potential in the conference this season with a couple of long shots to consider from a futures standpoint.

UFC Predictions with Pina – UFC on ESPN 4: dos Anjos vs. Edwards Jul 19, 2019

Host Adam Burke was joined by Christian Pina of the Sports Gambling Podcast to chat about this UFC on ESPN 4 card. The main card has a lot of excitement potential and the potential for a lot of violence. Rafael dos Anjos vs. Leon Edwards is the main event, but the main card features three heavyweight fights, including Greg Hardy vs. Juan Adams, and some of Christian’s top plays.
James Vick vs. Dan Hooker and Andrei Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell are two of the fights that Christian is following the closest this week. The guys also bounced around the preliminary card looking for betting angles and also some scouting reports on some of the newer fighters that will be in the Octagon.

Then he went Down the Lines to discuss line moves dating back to Monday’s action. It’s been a long offseason, but we’re less than 40 days away from the start of college football and it’s time to start getting the band back together. Host Adam Burke did that today for over an hour with Brad Powers of BradPowersSports.com to chat about the season win total markets, the industry as a whole, and then the SEC, Big Ten, and ACC.
Adam and Brad discussed look-ahead lines for big games, how competition has improved the industry, and how there is still a long way to go. The guys looked at challengers to Alabama and Georgia in the SEC, Michigan, Ohio State, and a crowded picture in the Big Ten West, and if anybody can actually compete with Clemson in the ACC. There was a ton of information and great analysis on the show and you definitely want to make sure you catch this one and listen to it over and over again as you prep for the season.

Host Adam Burke and golf expert Brian Blessing hopped on the BangTheBook Radio airwaves on July 16 for a breakdown of The Open Championship. We have no course form data at Royal Portrush, since the last Open here was in 1951, but we have an idea how these courses usually play and about how much of a factor weather can be. Adam and Brian discussed the favorites and also bounced all over the card looking at players that are in good form or those that fit the course.
Eventually, the guys narrowed it down to 5-6 players between them that would be picks and also talked about ways to bet as the tournament is going along. Host Adam Burke had a couple busy weekends and so did UFC expert handicapper Christian Pina, but the guys were able to get on the same page and hop on air to chat about UFC on ESPN+ 13. Also known as UFC Fight Night 155 or UFC Sacramento, this card features a main event of Germaine de Randamie and Aspen Ladd in a #1 contender battle for a shot at the Women’s Bantamweight belt. Urijah Faber also makes his return 30 months after retiring to take on Ricky Simon.
Christian had a lot of thoughts on those two fights and also took an extended look at the preliminary card, including a strong opinion on Liu Pingyuan vs. Jonathan Martinez and also some thoughts on Darren Elkins vs. Ryan Hall and Julianna Pena vs. Nicco Montano.
