    Handicapping the Hardwood College Basketball Betting Podcast February 17, 2020 Feb 17, 2020

    On the Monday February 17 edition of BangTheBook Radio, host Adam Burke was joined by professional handicapper Kyle Hunter of HunterSportsPicks.com for this week’s Handicapping the Hardwood segment. Kyle is still easing back into his regular routine, so this week’s segment was a little shorter once again, but featured notes on some regression candidates and breakdowns of seven games for this week.
    Adam and Kyle addressed some conference play stats from teams around the country, including big names like Michigan State and Washington and smaller names like UC Davis and UC Riverside. As far as games go, they guys talked about Robert Morris vs. Saint Francis (PA), Dayton vs. VCU, Boston U vs. Lafayette, Furman vs. ETSU, and Vermont vs. Stony Brook. Nobody does under-the-radar games better than these guys.

    On this particular segment, Adam talked about individual player regression candidates and how we use the metrics to attempt to isolate some of those players. He talked about how that factors into the season win total handicapping and the game-by-game handicapping. Finally, Adam updated some injury news and notes from Spring Training.

    This was a good follow-up to our opening segment with Greg Peterson and a good opportunity to point out some games that should be on your radar. Situational spots in the article have been very kind to us this week and we’ll try to carry that over into the weekend as well.

    On the Friday February 14 edition of BangTheBook Radio, host Adam Burke was joined by Greg “Hoops” Peterson of the Hoopin’ With Hoops podcast and VSIN to chat some college basketball for this weekend. The guys started by talking about the mental side of handicapping and how to deal with the swings of good days and bad days. They also looked at Friday’s card to single out the most intriguing games of the evening.
    Most of the focus on the segment was for Saturday’s action, as the guys took detailed looks at West Virginia vs. Baylor, VCU vs. Richmond, LSU vs. Alabama, Northern Iowa vs. Loyola Chicago, and a clear-cut look-ahead spot with Binghamton vs. Vermont.

Adam and John talked about tonight’s two games in the NBA and John shared what he does over the All-Star Break to work on his NBA stuff.
    Then the focus shifted to the college hardwood, as the guys discussed Iowa vs. Indiana tonight, the Big Ten slate for the weekend, and then the Big East card for Saturday with some picks and analysis.

Adam talked about the PECOTA projections that came out this week and the application of those in his handicapping. He also talked about the Spring Training injuries that we have seen so far and also about the continued fallout from the Astros’ sign-stealing scheme.
    Adam will be doing some of these Bettor’s Box segments this month before our college basketball coverage ramps up for conference tournaments and March Madness, so you’ll get your fill of MLB content as we head into the season that begins on March 26.

Adam and Wes recapped Week 1 in the XFL and looked ahead to Week 2 with thoughts on Guardians vs. Defenders and Vipers vs. Dragons on Saturday and also Renegades vs. Wildcats and BattleHawks vs. Roughnecks on Sunday.
    They also took a look at the Big Ten in college hoops and then focused on this week’s Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club with Wes’s favorite picks for this weekend’s PGA Tour event.

Adam and Bryan discussed MLB betting, with a focus on the futures markets for divisions, pennants, and the World Series, and also talked about the PECOTA projections that came out on Tuesday.
    On the NBA side, the guys discussed the final big night of action this evening and tomorrow’s games to discuss pre-All-Star Break betting and then talked about how people can get in trouble with college basketball if they get too involved with the NBA going dark for a week.

We use our Tuesday segments with Brian to talk about a lot of different sports betting markets and that was the case here with NHL, golf, NASCAR, and horse racing.
    The guys talked about Tuesday’s NHL card and some long-term betting spots and situational angles that have been profitable all season long. Adam and Brian also looked at this week’s Genesis Invitational for some betting picks and then focused in on the Daytona 500 and the upcoming NASCAR season. Finally, they talked a few minutes of horse racing to consider the Road to the Kentucky Derby and the prep races over the next two months.

    The guys talked about a handful of regression candidates, an awesome box score from the weekend, and then previewed five games for the week ahead with looks at Penn State vs. Purdue, Rhode Island vs. Dayton, Alabama vs. Auburn, and Creighton vs. Seton Hall.
