Ambassadors For Children Network Needs YOU Apr 21, 2021

It shocks many people to know that the United States has among the highest rates of child poverty in the developed world. That 15 million kids don’t get enough to eat. That 17 million must sit in parking lots to access the internet so they can do their homework. That more than 1.5 million children are experiencing homelessness. This past year, especially, has exposed us as a nation that has failed to invest in its future and desperately needs to correct injustices.
The national bipartisan advocacy group First Focus Campaign for Children has created an opportunity for advocates in every city and town in the United States to help our country’s 74 million kids with the Ambassadors for Children Network.
The First Focus Ambassadors Network is a movement of committed advocates who serve as a voice for children and families in the United States. They will be the local leaders in the fight to eliminate child poverty, secure health coverage for all kids, end racial inequity in schools, protect immigrant youth, and finally make kids a priority in federal spending.
Now is the time for hope — and action. At the center of the most recent COVID-19 relief package was a plan to cut child poverty in half — and renewed momentum to end it entirely in a generation. Congress also has finally begun to view child care as essential. And millions of voters are now urging Congress to pass laws in “the best interest of the child.”

Nappy Roots' Atlantucky Brewery Hosts “Deeply Rooted” Art Exhibit Apr 14, 2021

Atlantucky Brewery and Bright Ring Foundation will be hosting the “Deeply Rooted” art exhibit from April 16 through May 8. The entire run of the show is free to attend, and there will be a “meet the artists” event on opening night, Friday, April 16 from 4 pm - 8 pm. For the rest of the show’s run, the public is invited to visit Atlantucky (located at 170 Northside Drive SW) on Tuesday - Friday between 2 pm - 6 pm. “Deeply Rooted” embraces the Castleberry Hill neighborhood where the brewery resides.
Curated by Ian Daniels, founder of Bright Ring, in partnership with Fish Scales and Skinny DeVille, two of the founding members of both Nappy Roots and Atlantucky, the exhibit provides local artists an opportunity to display their artwork in Atlanta’s Historic Art District.
All of the artwork, including paintings and digital works, were made by local Atlanta artists and is available for sale. The concept of the show is to give local artists a platform to display their work and lead to a sustainable career. On opening night, there will be an art auction as well.
“We believe in the power of expression and understand how important art is to our culture,” said DeVille. “As musicians, we consider ourselves artists, and we are proud to be able to help local artists showcase their amazing work.”
Nappy Roots fans and art enthusiasts alike are invited to stop by Atlantucky to see the local talents’ artwork. The artwork displayed at the exhibit will be available for purchase. Atlantucky Brewery plans to begin serving its original beers in the summer of 2021.
After more than 20 years in the public eye, GRAMMY-nominated Nappy Roots has added to their repertoire by expanding beyond music into projects that include craft beer, television production and more. The alternative Southern rap group has been nominated for two GRAMMY Awards and is best known for hit singles such as “Good Day,” “Po Folks” and “Awnaw.” “Good Day” is regularly used in TV and radio ads, movie theme songs and more.
Bright Ring is a foundation that assists artists by providing the education and tools needed to improve earning potential, offering technology and education required to identify traditional and non-traditional income sources and educating the public about the value of arts and crafts in culture.

True PIMENTO CHEESE Story: Chef Stacey Suga West Apr 12, 2021

Suga’s Pimento Cheeses has added two new mouth-watering flavors, Gourmet Pesto & Feta and Black Truffle, to an already-diverse menu of pimento cheese offerings. The new options join other cravable and popular flavors already on Suga’s menu including Bacon Asiago, Smoked Gouda, Roasted Poblano and Monterey Jack, an extra spicy version with serrano peppers. Suga’s offers eight total traditional flavors and four vegan pimento cheese options.
Suga’s Pimento Cheeses also launches a new interactive web site to further penetrate local Atlanta shops, larger markets in the Atlanta metro, and expand throughout the Southern region. The new web site will feature pimento cheese recipe inspiration, the story behind the cheese, a list of local stores and markets where Suga’s Pimento Cheeses can be purchased and an e-commerce store where customers can purchase their favorite flavors.

Stacey West, aka Chef Suga, and her pimento cheeses have been sought after throughout metro Atlanta thanks to her memorable presence at local farmer’s markets and hyper-local shops as well as an early foray into a weekly Powder Springs brunch spot where the fan favorite was her signature Southern cheese spread.
Chef Suga graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Atlanta with dreams of running a restaurant. After working with some of the top chefs in the Atlanta Metro area, including Chef Hilary of The Hil at Serenbe and Chef Holly, executive chef of Georgia Grown, she launched Suga’s Enterprises, LLC in April 2016, taking over the kitchen and dining room of a local Powder Springs restaurant one day only for two months to serve Sunday brunch and try her hand at the restaurant industry.
Stacey, her son Quinton Jones, who is also a chef, and her husband Robert West created southern brunch favorites such as chicken and waffles with maple butter, catfish po’ boys, sweet potato corn muffins, and pimento cheese and grits. While they enjoyed the entire menu, customers overwhelmingly latched onto the pimento cheese. Suga’s Pimento Cheeses launched just over a year later, in June 2017, thanks to the raving fans and high demand for the creative pimento cheese brand.
“Our pimento cheeses are perfect on burgers, eggs, in grilled cheese or just fresh out of the container,” Chef Suga said.
When she received requests for a spicier version in addition to her original pimento cheese, Chef Suga started experimenting with different types of spicy peppers, started selling her pimento cheese spread at the Marietta Square Farmers Market and sold out on the first day. Eventually the West’s grew the business to many other markets and stores around metro Atlanta and into Tennessee and launched nine different flavors of pimento cheese. They debuted a 10th flavor, the smoked gouda pimento cheese, at the 2018 Atlanta Cheese Fest earning a finalist spot in the 2019 Flavor of Georgia food competition.
Chef Suga and her team uses farm fresh, no preservatives and small batch ingredients from local restaurant supply companies, Atlanta farmers and other local vendors to ensure the highest and most fresh quality. Suga’s Pimento Cheeses’ vegan options are dairy, soy and nut free and contain potato and corn-based cheese, vegan mayo, vegan cream cheese and other non-dairy ingredients.
Stacey earned the nickname “Suga” (pronounced “Shuh-gah”) when her first grandbaby was born. She didn’t want to be called “grandma” so her daughter, Chanty, came up with the alternative “Suga.” She quickly began to be known as “Chef Suga.”

True VEGAN Story: Meatless The Musical Apr 09, 2021

Kevin Sherwin is a composer and guitarist whose passion for animal advocacy led him to create "Meatless the Musical." Through empathy with mistreated animals, he hopes that more people can realize that animals are not for food or clothing, but are indeed our friends. The show, currently active as an online series, raises funds for the Ellie Mae Farm Sanctuary.
As a composer, Mr. Sherwin recently wrote the score to James Patrick Nelson's "Waking Up," which is an Official Selection of the 2021 Santa Barbara Int'l Film Festival. He was also a featured writer/composer for "The Passing Show," produced by Ben West and Unsung Musicals Co. at the Pershing Square Signature Center in New York City. As a performer, he made his solo debuts as guitarist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and Regent Hall in London, England. With violist Mark Bailey, he has performed twice at the University of Cambridge in the Musica Vera Duo, including original compositions. He was also featured as conductor and guitarist in the YoungArts New York Gala at the Metropolitan Museum’s Temple of Dendur, working with Tony Honoree, Michael McElroy.

The most famous golf tournament in the world is in Georgia this week, and LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Atlanta hit a hole in one by creating its own mini golf hole made out of 1,000 LEGO® Bricks!
It took one day for Philip Simmons, Master Model Builder, to create this intricate scene which is now in the attraction’s MINILAND® Atlanta. Families can come close to this this beautiful LEGO® build from now until the end of April, and take home some LEGO® golf building inspiration.
