Online Safety Education for Kids Jun 08, 2020
    Show notes

Teaching online safety cannot wait until children reach adolescence. Data from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline and Child Victim Identification Program shows that children under the age of 12 are often the victims of online enticement, sextortion and child sexual abuse imagery. Adults often struggle to find the language to talk with young children about online dangers and the skills to practice protective behaviors that help keep them safe. NCMEC’s unique perspective as the centralized reporting mechanism for suspected child exploitation offers important insights to the risks to young children online and informs our prevention education content. Hear about the most recent NCMEC data on the dangers young children are facing online today, and learn about NCMEC new online safety web series, Into the Cloud. This new program is designed especially for students in grades K–5 and includes engaging videos, easy-to-use discussion guides and a multilevel game – all age-appropriate and free.
