    Arsecast Extra Episode 351 - 01.06.2020 Jun 01, 2020
    Show notes

On this week's show we chat about our big date: June 17th, when we're scheduled to play football again. We chat about how we're feeling about that, about facing Man City, and try and guess what his starting XI is going to be for that game. We're still waiting for the rest of the fixtures to be announced, and we wonder what the impact of games being played behind closed doors will have on fans and their relationship to the game. Then we answer listener questions about the reports on the David Luiz deal, what it might mean for our defence when there are other players we might want to let go first but the transfer market might prevent that, Raul Sanllehi, a recap of life under Arteta ahead of football getting going again, and lots more.

The Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 15 - Frauen Bundesliga, Frown WSL May 29, 2020
    Show notes

On this bonus edition of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, Tim and Pippa talk about the recent decision to terminate the WSL season with the Guardian's women's football writer Suzy Wrack. Have the FA lacked ambition with the decision to terminate? Does it reflect badly on England and its commitment to women's football that it hasn't found a way to return? The panel discusses the decision in-depth.

In Germany, the Frauen Bundesliga will return this weekend, however and to talk about Germany's approach to getting women's football back up and running, Tim is joined by Ellen Hanisch from the Frauen reden uber fussball [FURF] podcast. Tim and Ellen chat about the current situation in the Bundesliga table, how Germany was able to get the show back on the road for women's teams, the situation with USV Jena who are not allowed to train yet but will be asked to play and some of the games and players to look out for.

    Episode 581 - Scouting May 29, 2020
    Show notes

On this week's show I'm joined by Arsenal's former head of scouting for North America, Danny Karbassiyoon to chat about ... well ... scouting. What are the typical scouting set-ups at big clubs? How has the introduction and growing importance of data changed the job? How do clubs deploy their scouts in tandem with their recruitment needs? What exactly does a scout do when they're at games and watching their targets? All this and lots more with Danny.

The Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 14 - The Queens & Vic May 26, 2020
    Show notes

Between 1993 and 2013, Arsenal Ladies won 14 league titles, 12 FA Cups, 13 League Cups and the European Cup- the first and only British side to win the European Cup in the women's game. On this month's episode, Tim is joined by Rich Laverty to discuss Arsenal's domestic dominance under Vic Akers and some of the players that underpinned it. Rich recently wrote an article on Arsenal Ladies' success in the Arsenal special edition of These Football Times magazine.

Tim is then joined by women's football journalist Catherine Etoe, who covered Arsenal extensively in the early 2000s. Tim and Catherine discuss the great Gunners sides of the early 21st century. Catherine covered both legs of the 2007 European Cup Final against Umea and she reminisces about Arsenal's achievement in that final. Also this month, we hear from Gunners left-back Katie McCabe on this month's edition of 'Teammates.' Who from the current squad would make the best Prime Minister? Who would be the best in a fight? Or a pub quiz?

After that we answer listener questions about ideal kit design, whether KSE might feel the financial pinch and decide to cash in on Arsenal, Bukayo Saka's social media presence on official channels and whether that augurs well towards a new deal, 'controversial' opinions (not that controversial really) and LOTS more.

ARSECAST SPECIAL: GUNNERBLOG INTERVIEWS ARSEBLOG ABOUT ARSEBLOG May 20, 2020
    Show notes

I have spoken before about the creation of Arseblog, and a lot of stuff that has happened with the site down the years, but always on other platforms. We had some frequent requests to do something on Arseblog itself, and when it was suggested that James interview me, that sounded like a good way to do it.

In this podcast, we trace the origins of arseblog.com, its very niche predecessor, the growth and expansion of the site, the creation of the podcast, the OleOle years, the post OleOle chasm and decision to build something bigger, Arseblog News, the addition of columnists like Tim Stillman, the birth of the Arsecast Extra and LOADS more.

It's not quite Frost Nixon, but hopefully you'll enjoy it all the same.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 349 - 18.05.2020 May 18, 2020
    Show notes

On this week's show we find out if James is still 'from Gunnerblog' or does he need a different introduction. We then chat about dubious sound quality from supposedly professional broadcasters, the return of football in Germany and our experiences of watching the Bundesliga this weekend, and how the ability to use five substitutes might impact the game on a tactical level if that rule is left in place. Then there are questions about the Unai Emery interview, lockdown nostalgia, the future for young players and the advantage we might have, Lacazette's balloon antics and lots more.

First up on this week's show, Andrew Allen to discuss the framework of the return of Premier League football, the protocols for training, players signing consent forms and the impact on finances. We also chat a bit about the Bundesliga coming back this week, if there's a particular team we're going to follow, and what we might learn from what happens in Germany.

Then I'm joined by Tom Findlay of Groove Armada to talk music, DJing, the Arsenal and lots more besides.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 348 - 11.05.2020 May 11, 2020
    Show notes

On this week's show we find out if James is staying alert in the wake of new government advice which isn't at all confusing, and we talk about the Premier League meeting due to take place today. The return of football is highest on the agenda, but we wonder about the players willingness to take risks, if medical concerns will be addressed, potential rule changes involving subs, and the need for a mini pre-season before games can begin again. Then we answer questions about curry houses, next season's home shirt, sports documentaries, the changes we'd make the rules of football if we had the power and lots more.
