    Arsecast Extra Episode 378 - 19.10.2020 Oct 19, 2020
    Show notes

On this episode we look back in the 1-0 defeat to Man City on Saturday, a result/performance which has generated a lot of discussion, and which is interesting to analyse because of the way people have reacted to it. We chat about the scoreline in the context of other defeats there in recent years, and the selection decision Mikel Arteta made in using Willian in that particular role. How much was this game Arteta v Guardiola? Could we have been more adventurous in general or later in the match as we looked for an equaliser? There's a lot on how to best make the team more attacking, there's Aubameyang in the middle stuff, and praise for the impressive Bukayo Saka whose form might have an impact on the way we use the captain. We also answer questions about the job Arteta is doing, whether we still need to buy a centre-half despite having so many, Willian, Wenger's Cesc revelation, and loads more.

    Episode 601 - Project WGTFY Oct 16, 2020
    Show notes

On this week's show, I'm joined by Philippe Auclair to chat about the Project Big Picture stuff that went down this week. Even though it was voted down, what nefarious intentions lay behind this story coming out? What is the end-game? What could the ramifications be for the Premier League and beyond? We also chat about the pay-per-view stuff, the arrival and potential impact of Thomas Partey, William Saliba, Arsene Wenger's book and more.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 377 - 12.10.2020 Oct 12, 2020
    Show notes

On this Interlull episode of the Arsecast Extra, James has to deal with bits of himself literally falling out of his own body, before we discuss the big story of the weekend – the Project Give All The Money To The Big Clubs. Are there potential benefits to the game, or is this a piece of rank, cynical opportunism? We also chat about the decision to charge £14.95 for pay-per-view games on Sky Sports and BT Sports, the absence of William Saliba from our Europa League squad, Arsene Wenger's upcoming book, Edu's interview with the official site and lots more.

    Episode 600 - Nicklas Bendtner Oct 09, 2020
    Show notes

On this week's show, I'm joined by former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner. With him, author Rune Skyum-Neilsen to chat about his book 'Both Sides' which is out now in England. We discuss his time at Arsenal, the ups and downs of his career, Arsene Wenger, injuries at bad times, how he views the club now, his plans for the future and loads more. You can also win a copy of the book.

First up though, there's discussion of the Mesut Ozil situation as the club's highest earner is left out of Europa League squad, for all that implies. With me for that is Chris Wheatley of Football.London and we chat about the deterioration in the relationship between club and player, and wonder if there's a healthier way to bring it all to an end than 9 months of Ozil training but never playing.

On this bonus podcast, I'm joined by James and Andrew Allen to discuss the somewhat surprise transfer deadline signing of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid. Arsecast Extra Episode 376 - 05.10.2020 Oct 05, 2020
    Show notes

On this episode of the Arsecast Extra we discuss the 2-1 win over Sheffield United on Sunday, in which two excellent second half goals helped us to three points against a difficult side. We touch on the introduction of Nicolas Pepe and the change in shape as a key factor in the win, a first Emirates goal for Bukayo Saka, the positives we should take from this game despite clear room for improvement, and where it leaves us in the table after the first four games. Then, as it's transfer deadline day, we deal with a lot of listener questions about our business during this window. Has Mikel Arteta been backed properly? Should the owners do more to invest in the team? Has Edu convinced in his new role? How much has past spending hindered us this summer? And if there are no arrivals, could Saka be the addition to midfield that we need? All that, and lots more.

    Show notes

On this extra Arsecast Extra we discuss the penalty shoot-out win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. We discuss the man of the match performance of Bernd Leno and ask if it's time now to stop the constant comparisons with Emi Martinez. We also chat about the positives of three wins out of four against Liverpool in recent months, Nicolas Pepe on the left, the penalty shoot-out itself and the wonderful, ice-cold way in which Ainsley Maitland-Niles takes his. We then answer listener questions about William Saliba and a potential loan departure, whether we have other midfield targets beyond Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey, our transfer business in general, the prospect of lots of loan moves both in and out, and more.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 374 - 29.09.2020 Sep 29, 2020
    Show notes

On this week's show we discuss last night's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. How much can we be frustrated in losing to a team as good as they are? We chat about some big moments, including the red card that wasn't, Lacazette's miss, Mikel Arteta's team selection, how far we can go with this squad of players without further investment, and Aubameyang as the central striker to get on the end of chances like Laca's. There are listener questions about shots conceded and shots taken, whether we might get any surprise departures before the close of the window and if they might sting, the 'Nicolas Pepe conversation', what Granit Xhaka's substitution might tell us about his future, reliving transfer values and loads more besides.

Then, to get some background on new signing Alex Runarsson, I chat to author Matt McGinn who literally wrote the book on Icelandic football and who can give us some insight into the new signing. Finally, ahead of Monday's clash with Liverpool, some perspective from that side of the fence with Neil Atkinson from The Anfield Wrap. You can also win a t-shirt from FourFourTee.com.

    Show notes

On this week's show discuss the 2-1 win over West Ham in which the result was much better than the performance. We talk about Mikel Arteta pulling no punches about that after the game, why Kieran Tierney being so good has caused a bit of a problem, the contribution of Bukayo Saka, the need for midfield reinforcement even if Xhaka and Ceballos played their parts in the win, as well as some of the Premier League controversy over the weekend regarding handball and penalties. We then answer listener questions about the Carabao Cup team for Wednesday, whether Lucas Torreira going to Atletico Madrid should open the door for Thomas Partey's arrival, Gabriel's role in defence, Bernd Leno and Emi Martinez comparisons, Alexandre Lacazette's contract/future, and lots more.
