Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 67: Scouting Cloe Lacasse Jul 13, 2023
    Show notes

On this episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, Tim talks to data analyst and scout Marc Lamberts. Tim talks to Marc about what scouting entails in women's football, what kind of work he does for clubs across Europe, his experience of scouting new Gunners signing Cloe Lacasse (he didn't scout her on Arsenal's behalf) what kind of player Lacasse is, her strengths and weaknesses and how she fits in. Tim and Marc also discuss whether her career path exposes some inefficiencies in the women's transfer market with a lot of leagues still not very visible to anything other than a small, localised audience.

    Show notes

In this episode I'm joined by Andrew Allen to discuss some things that have happened, and some things which haven't happened yet but will. In the first column, we chat about a new contract for Reiss Nelson and his very interesting motivations to commit his future to the club, and the departure of Granit Xhaka to Bayer Leverkusen after an eventful (!) seven years in North London. In the other, William Saliba's contract is expected to be done imminent, and we await the arrivals of Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber. There are also some reflections on the executive structure which has helped turn our fortunes around, and lots more.

    Show notes

In this episode, we chat about an improved fee for Granit Xhaka which is a more accurate reflection of a market in which unknown goalkeepers are going for incredible prices. We talk about the deals that haven't been completed but we all know will get done, welcome back some of our players to pre-season training, reflect on the retirement of Cesc Fabregas, and answer questions about the size of the team, striker options and pecking order, who might understudy Bukayo Saka if we're not after a winger during this window, Jurrien Timber, and lots more.

    Episode 738 - Technical Level Jun 29, 2023
    Show notes

In this episode I'm joined by Lewis Ambrose to discuss the signing of Kai Havertz, focusing on what the plan might be for him, and how he adds technical quality to the squad. It's framed around the Declan Rice developments this week as Mikel Arteta looks to reshape his midfield, and we examine the age profile of this very expensively assembled squad should all go to plan. There's some stuff on spending £100m, a contract renewal for young talent Ethan Nwaneri and lots more.

Note: This is out early because things move so fast, I didn't want it to be out of date.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 532 - 26.06.2023 Jun 26, 2023
    Show notes

In this episode, we reflect on the nothing that happened over the weekend, but that doesn't stop us talking a lot about Declan Rice. Does his shirt collection tell us something? How challenging is it to sign a player than Man City also want? We also chat about the imminent arrival of Kai Havertz and ongoing interest in Jurrien Timber, before we take questions about Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu, replacing Granit Xhaka on and off the pitch, why Edu might single-handedly destroy the entire Internet and lots more.

    Episode 737 - Interconnected Rice Jun 22, 2023
    Show notes

In this episode I chat to Charles Watts about Declan Rice, after the news of Man City's interest in him. It's far from a surprise but definitely a complication, and we discuss the challenges Arsenal face, City's push to sign him, the financial differences at play, and how important it is to get this priority signing done after missing out on some previous deals in the January window. We also talk about Kai Havertz expected arrival, and why so much of this transfer window feels dependent on us landing the West Ham captain. There's also some chat about Thomas Partey, and how the Saudi Arabian league could impact the market this summer.

Note: This is out early because things move so fast, I didn't want it to be out of date.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 531 - 19.06.2023 Jun 19, 2023
    Show notes

In this episode, we chat about Flo Balogun scoring his first goal for the USMNT and discuss what might happen with him in the future. Should he be given the nod over Eddie Nketiah next season, and is that what he wants? We then discuss the interest in Chelsea's Kai Havertz, and some of the fan reaction to that potential deal, before the possibility of Thomas Partey's departure comes up and we assess that in the context of Granit Xhaka going too. Then there are questions about Saudi Arabian clubs buying Chelsea players, whether there's a tipping point because of the increasingly grim ownership models in the game, KSE, how it feels to be on the verge of spending £100m on a single player, plus James' catchphrase game needs some refining, and lots more.
