    Understanding what makes this podcast different is understanding what makes Chris different.
    For those who are unfamiliar, Chris’ story has all the makings of a Hollywood movie: a chaotic and abusive childhood in the murderous mountains of the Pacific Northwest, graduating college while working full-time to secure custody of his siblings, achieving feats of strength no other human has ever accomplished before.
    Chris’ “secret formula” to overcoming those challenges? To find unstoppable strength through seemingly insurmountable struggle? It was his ability to harness his mind, body and soul. To become the architect of his own resiliency.

    Eric has published multiple peer reviewed articles in exercise science and nutrition journals and writes for several fitness publications He's taught undergraduate and graduate level nutrition and exercise science courses and is invited to speak internationally at academic and commercial conferences for fitness, nutrition and strength and conditioning. He has a BS in fitness and wellness, an MS in exercise science, a second masters in sports nutrition, a PhD in strength and conditioning, and is a research fellow for AUT at the Sports Performance Research Institute New Zealand.

    Brian Carroll is no stranger to injury and rehab. After being assessed by Dr. Stuart McGill, he was told that he has one of the worst backs Dr. McGill has ever seen. The story doesn't end there however - and with the good doctor's help Brian was able to come back healthier than ever.

    Brian is also known for writing 10/20/Life as well as co-authoring The Gift of Injury with Dr. McGill. He is one of the top powerlifters of his generation and has loads of wisdom and knowledge to share with our listeners.

    Strength Chat #54: Chad Aichs Jan 30, 2018

    Today's episode is much more personal than our typical episode. Our guest - live and in-person at the Kabuki Strength Studio - is one of the strongest men in the world in his day, Chad Aichs. Chad is a long-time friend of Kabuki and the Mad Scientist, and on today's show he opens up and shares his incredible story of a battle with depression, insomnia, and despair that he was determined to win, and did win.

    Chad Aichs is a world class and elite powerlifter in the SHW division. He began training seriously for powerlifting in 1999 in Sparks, Nevada, where he still currently trains at American Iron Gym. In the ten years since he started, Aichs has proven to be one of the strongest lifters in the world. His best lifts are a 1173 squat, 821 bench press and a 755 pull. Aichs' best total is 2733, which makes him one of the top lifters of all time.

    Strength Chat 53: Alex Viada Jan 22, 2018

    This week's guest is Alex Viada, the founder and mastermind behind Complete Human Performance. Alex is a lifelong athlete and the only person known to have ever deadlifted over 700 pounds within a week of running a 50 mile ultra-marathon. (This record is not official, but is most likely accurate as to date he's just fairly certain nobody else has bothered to try it.) Alex has coached hundreds of athletes over a 13 year (to date) career, in many sports ranging from bodybuilding to ultra running to cycling to powerlifting.

    On today's episode we discuss Alex's new book - The Hybrid Athlete - among other topics including:

    • energy systems
    • maximum recoverable volume
    • improving training capacity for the strength athlete
    • strength for the endurance athlete.
