    Another Mother Runner

A family of two podcasts to get (+ keep) you running without losing your family, friends, job, or sanity! More than 1,000 (!) back episodes to enjoy.

Every Friday on the original show (launched in 2011), host Sarah Bowen Shea, a mom of three and veteran of 14 marathons, is joined by a rotating cast of co-hosts and often a guest expert to discuss topics ranging from how to reach a big race goal to finding your athletic happy place, and everything in between. Training, nutrition, motivation, mental toughness, TMI issues: This ~hour-long show covers it all (and then some!).

Every Tuesday, Miles of Books drops, alternating Ellison Weist chatting fiction one week with Sarah Bowen Shea and non-fiction with Coach Liz Waterstraat and Sarah the next. In about 30 minutes, the hosts entice and entertain you with plot descriptions and pearls of training (and life!) advice to guide you to your next great reads.

Both shows are witty and conversational, making them great running partners because the AMR gals do all the talking—even on the uphills!

    #193: Advice for Going Gluten-Free Jan 15, 2016
    Show notes

Sarah welcomes back Adrienne Martini as co-host, and the gals kick off the show by talking about why they each love running—as well as knitted knockers (!). They are joined by Kristin Porter of the Iowa Girl Eats blog to talk about a variety of topics, including how Kristin handled going gluten-free after being diagnosed with Celiac disease after the birth of her son. Before the conversation turns to gluten-free eating and cooking, the mother runners marvel at the 64 (!!) treadmill workouts Kristin has on her site, and why she . After Adrienne reveals that her daughter was diagnosed with Celiac disease at age four, she and Kristin marvel at dealing with a disease that can be managed through food. Kristin talks about the steep learning curve she dealt with when she first cut gluten out of her diet, and how it prompted her to write an e-book entitled Gluten-Free for Beginners. Kristin recounts her “wogging” (walking + jogging) workouts when she finally had enough energy to resume running. Along the way...

#192: How to Plan Your Running Race Calendar Jan 08, 2016
    Show notes

Sarah is joined by co-host Coach Christine Hinton to chat about planning a running race calendar for 2016. Coach Christine talks about the logic behind choosing one or two goal races for the year, and why you should consider the larger picture of your life (work, family, travel, all that good stuff!) when mapping out your goals. Before they dive into the main topic, Coach Christine shares some success stories, including how one mother runner overcame her long-time anxiety about tempo runs. The coach offers assurance that “bad races happen,” and how to recover and learn from them. Christine also helps Sarah see the logic in using a race as, “an assisted long run.” (Clever woman, that Coach Christine!) She describes how to approach a “tune-up” race, and lays out a strategy for them. Sarah suspects you might find a new running mantra—“Be smart, not stubborn.” —listening to this episode.

The ladies debate triathlon versus trail running as Dimity’s sport of choice, and Dimity talks about the ultramarathon she’s aiming for. Find out the new running term Sarah’s husband coined, and how it relates to Sarah’s goal for this year’s Boston Marathon. #107: Time Management Tips from Jill Farmer Nov 27, 2015
    Show notes

Happy Thanksgiving weekend, mother runners! This is a repeat episode we hope proves, ahem, timely for you during this extra-harried time of year. It was recorded in spring 2014, thus the intro chatter about a spring break trip. Enjoy!

Dimity and Sarah suspect you’re in the same proverbial boat they often are: drowning in seeming “must-do’s” and “gotta-get-done’s.” So they brought on Jill Farmer, a time- and life-management coach in St. Louis, to help unravel the busy cluster of mother runners’ lives. Jill shares some insightful, yet delicious simple, solutions on how to shed some stress and get more done in a day. (Including making sure you have enough time for your all-important runs!) We love that she even uses running terms, like “bigger strides, longer goals” as analogies for accomplishing more in life. But before the mother runners dive into the de-stressing discussion, find out where...
