The sky fell earlier this week when Christian Wilkins, Robert Hunt, Andrew Van Ginkel, and other franchise cornerstones signed with new franchises in the first wave of free agency. That said, general manager Chris Grier went to work rebuilding the roster, especially on the defensive side of the football.

Miami lost more than half the roster's defensive starters, but the team's approach expects to be different under first-year defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. Could defensive back be an option in the draft considering the additions of Jordan Poyer and Kendall Fuller?

There's plenty to say about the defense, but that can't be said about Miami's offense. How can the unit gear up for a bounce-back campaign in 2024?

Smart Shopping: Grading Miami's First Wave of Free-Agent Signings Mar 14, 2024

Wednesday marked the beginning of the 2024 NFL League year and the Miami Dolphins are moving forward without Christian Wilkins, Robert Hunt, Andrew Van Ginkel, and a handful of other players who helped the franchise achieve recent regular-season success. That said, it was time for general manager Chris Grier to make some changes, and it started with rebuilding the linebacker group with Jordyn Brooks (Seattle Seahawks) and Anthony Walker (formerly of the Cleveland Browns).

The show starts on the offensive side of the ball as we look at the positives and negatives that have Dolphins' Twitter split on Aaron Brooks. That said, most of Miami's work has come on the defensive side of the football with the additions of a pair of linebackers, defensive tackles, and an All-Pro safety. The legal tampering period began on Monday with the Las Vegas Raiders agreeing to a deal that gives Christian Wilkins top-ten non-quarterback money over five years — nobody saw that coming! The same can be said about Robert Hunt, who inked a five-year deal worth $100 million to join the Carolina Panthers.

While the Dolphins were quiet for most of the day, Brandon Jones signed a three-year deal to join the Denver Broncos and Andrew Van Ginkel will join the Minnesota Vikings on a two-year contract.

From Today's Show: Here's Why Derrick Henry to Miami Seems Unlikely Mar 11, 2024

Raheem Mostert followed Mike McDaniel to Miami and the decision paid off in a major way. Mostert led the league with 18 rushing touchdowns while rookie third-round pick De'Von Achane averaged more than seven yards per carry on the ground. That said, Miami's rushing attack disappeared with its Super Bowl aspirations late in the season.

Considering that Jeff Wilson Jr., Chris Brooks, and potentially Salvon Ahmed are all in the mix, we explain why it doesn't make sense for Miami to swing big for King Henry. While "thunder and lightning" seems to make sense for a running back duo, the Dolphins have struggled with it in recent years.

Three Big Questions for Dolphins Fans Entering Legal Tampering Period Mar 11, 2024

The Miami Dolphins must clear $20 million off the salary cap before the new league year begins on Wednesday. That being said, it's hard to imagine that general manager Chris Grier not clearing up enough space to add a handful of players early in free agency. Miaimi's offense fell apart near the end of the season and the defense will transform to meet first-year coordinator Anthony Weaver's vision.

The Dolphins have to be smart when it comes to improving the roster — we run through three big questions that Dolphins fans must ask themselves. Miami's continued to string together winning seasons but changes are needed to earn the franchise's first playoff game in roughly 20 years.

The Miami Dolphins began the offseason more than $50 million over the salary cap. Still, that number has shrunk to roughly $19 million after the team released linebacker Jerome Baker, who spent six years with the franchise. While the move saves Miami about $10 million against the salary cap, it also creates a major hole at inside linebacker.

Despite the team's salary cap issues, it didn't stop them from signing defensive tackle Isaiah Mack to a contract less than a week away from the new league year. Franchise Tag Deadline: Christian Wilkins Dodges One-Year Deal, Will Test Free Agency Mar 07, 2024

Nine players were placed on the franchise tag by Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline, but Christian Wilkins was not one of them. Plans have quickly changed less than a week after ESPN reported that Miami would not let Wilkins walk out the door.

Instead, the five-year pro will test free agency when the league year begins on Wednesday. That said, insiders have reported that the Dolphins are leaving the door open for a potential return, what would be needed to make that happen?
