How many different college football programs will win a national title between now and 2035? Jun 25, 2025

How many programs will win a national title in the next 10 years, and which teams will pull it off?

The NBA just crowned its seventh different champion in seven years. Is college football headed for a similar level of competitiveness, or will a few teams still dominate the landscape. In the 11 seasons of the College Football Playoff, there have been six different champions (Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Georgia, Michigan).

Is it possible the curve is flattening enough to have eight or nine different champs in 10 years?

Florida State QB Thomas Castellanos trash talked Alabama; can FSU be good enough to back him up? Jun 24, 2025
    Show notes

What teams reshaped their roster in the transfer portal and might surprise us in 2025?
(0:00-6:35) Intro: What did Thomas Castellanos say?
(6:36-19:06) What does Florida State's 2025 look like?
(19:07-25:18) Breaking down Pete Nakos' Thomas Castellanos Story

(54:00-59:12) West Virginia with Rich Rod, views in the state
(59:13-1:05:00) Will Kentucky embrace Motivated Mark Stoops?
    (1:05:01-1:05:42) Conclusion

We’ve talked plenty about Texas Tech and its spending spree in the portal, but what other teams set themselves up for potential success through the portal?

Could Florida State come back from a horrific 2-10 season with two new coordinators and a radically revamped roster?

Did Ole Miss simply create a new window for playoff contention with another portal haul?

Everyone expects Oregon to be good, but can the Ducks contend for a national title with several key spots filled by players who transferred in this offseason?

Is Rich Rodriguez trying to do at West Virginia what Curt Cignetti did at Jacksonville State?

Has USC gotten its NIL operation in order in a way that allows the Trojans to regularly beat out national title contenders for players? It certainly seems that way.

It’s also a Dear Andy/Dear Ari show, and you have some incredible questions…

Which college football program would get the highest valuation?

If you had no rooting interest and got to choose a college football team to back, which team would be the most fun to root for over the next 20 years?

Could the College Football Playoff simply require teams play a minimum number of power conference games?

Plus, the Random Ranking is back. Andy, Ari, and Producer River rank the movies that don’t have sequels but maybe should.

The Big Ten and SEC could compromise and make a CFP deal NOW, but don't hold your breath Jun 19, 2025
    Show notes

The Big Ten and SEC appear to be at an impasse when it comes to the College Football Playoff format going forward. The Big Ten wants multiple automatic bids for certain leagues. The SEC would prefer more at-larges.

Could Vanderbilt REALLY run the state of Tennessee? Diego Pavia thinks so Jun 18, 2025
    Show notes

Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia continues to liven up the college football world, this time with a pledge on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast that after this season Vanderbilt will “run” the state of Tennessee. This was a shot at Tennessee, which has a fanbase that certainly won’t take that statement lightly.
    (0:00-2:53) Intro: Diego Pavia
(2:54-15:19) Could Vanderbilt run the state of Tennessee?
(15:20-24:13) How much money is too much money?
(24:14-31:40) Generational wealth, Pavia on Big Ten
(31:41-48:49) CFP Format: 9 Conference games for SEC?
(48:50-58:17) How should fans spend their money moving forward?
(58:18-1:10:00) Story Time, Movies that need a Sequel
    (1:10:01-1:15:07) Producer River's stakes on Tennessee-Vandy
    (1:15:08-1:16:16) Conclusion: "Brick by Brick"

Meanwhile, Illinois coach Bret Bielema told a group of reporters that he doesn’t believe the College Football Playoff should expand to 16 if the SEC doesn’t play nine conference game. This came as conference commissioners were meeting in Asheville, N.C., to discuss the CFP format for 2026 and beyond.

General manager Ron Rivera has the keys at Cal; will other schools follow suit? Jun 17, 2025
    Show notes

In the new age of college football, the title “general manager” means something different on every campus. Several schools have hired GMs and given them something similar to the power of an NFL GM.
    (0:00-0:22) Intro
(0:23-19:44) Ron Rivera's Role at Cal, House Settlement
(19:45-20:06) Watch our show on YouTube!
(20:07-35:03) How will the house settlement impact spending?
(35:04-39:30) Update on the mystery at Ari's House
(39:31-43:38) Putting a bow on the GM discussion
(43:39-52:06) Jake Garcia signs with Michigan
    (52:07-53:59) Conclusion

We thought that might create a power struggle with coaches, but what happened Monday suggests it also may create a power struggle with athletic directors.

Cal athletic director Jim Knowlton retired with four years left on his contract, and it’s clear that newly installed GM Ron Rivera — the former Panthers and Commanders head coach — has assumed the role Knowlton had when it comes to football.

Meanwhile, well-traveled quarterback Jake Garcia committed to Michigan. The former four-star recruit has been at Miami, Missouri and East Carolina. Why are the Wolverines dipping into the portal for a QB now?

(9:33-32:47) Transfers who change everything: Mark Gronowski at Iowa
    (32:48-42:59) Dane Key at Nebraska

(55:25-1:07:59) The mystery at Ari's house
    (1:08:00-1:10:36) Conclusion: Jeff's Email

New Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski was a star at South Dakota State, and he might bring the one thing the Hawkeyes have been missing — competent QB play — to Iowa City.

We’ve talked a lot about John Mateer at Oklahoma, but he could make a massive difference in the Sooners’ fortunes.

Meanwhile, new Nebraska receiver Dane Key came from Kentucky and might help Dylan Raiola take the next big step.
