Episode 352: Drag Race All Stars 7 – Episode 11: Drag Race Gives Back Variety Extravaganza Jul 24, 2022

Show notes

It all comes down to a variety show heavy on the dance tracks to decide who’s going to the finale, but as expected, there are twists. Luckily, it doesn’t involve a spray-painted plunger. A game-changing three stars for this week’s challenge sends Shea Coulee straight to the finale four with shoe-in Jinkx Monsoon. But the show stealer of the night is Monet’s ultimate diva moment. That pesky alliance helps decide the final four, but the game isn’t over, and this second showdown might be even more exciting. We make time for Fosse/Verdon and more bad porn sounds, we take a look back at variety shows past, and a new favorite joins the soundboard.

Episode 351: BONUS!: Canada’s Drag Race – Season 3 Episode 1: Sidewalk to Catwalk Jul 19, 2022

Show notes

We’ll be covering Canada’s Drag Race on Patreon this season, but we’re kicking things off on the main feed this week! Our continental sister series kicks off with 12 new queens and strong old-school Project Runway vibes. We’ll warn you now, we repeat the name “Irma Gerd” more times than we say Mary, but we’re also enjoying Jada Shada, both of the Bae’s and cool big sister Chelazon. Brooke Lynn’s white shoes in the workroom send us on a significant tangent, to say nothing of Boom Boom’s cabbie hat. Miss F is up to no good, we’ve got another Ella Vaday Lookalike this season, and that lip sync song choice is one for the drawing board.

Episode 350: Drag Race All Stars 7 – Episode 10: The Kennedy Davenport Center Honors Hall of Shade Jul 17, 2022

Show notes

We don’t quite know why this week’s roast was named after Kennedy Davenport, but we’re just so proud to see it. While Kennedy couldn’t be there (except via Zoom), a ninth legendary All Star returns this week to do the honors. To the surprise of absolutely no one, Jinkx turns and it and burns it, nabbing her fifth win of the season and polishing her spot in the Top 4. Third time’s a charm for Trinity, Viv gives good British roast and Monet sinks her teeth into it. Everyone shines on the runway, the plunger gets flushed and this lip sync choice doesn’t reign supreme.

Episode 349: Drag Race All Stars 7 – Episode 9: Dance Like a Drag Queen Jul 10, 2022

Show notes

The queens are taking to TikTok for this week’s dance challenge wrapped in a branding challenge. While this challenge is right on Shea’s Alvin Alley, Yvie’s angst ranks her high, and Jaida is the true queen for all seasons, it’s Mother’s Day for Jinkx and payday for Monet, who serve a spoken word lip sync that’ll knock your lights out. We have high praise for the bonkers energy and fresh edit of the episode, some strong feelings on dance challenges and niche TikTok, and our own suggestions for future spoken word lip syncs.

Episode 348: Drag Race All Stars 7 – Episode 8: Santa’s School for Girls Jul 03, 2022

Show notes

This fever dream of an acting challenge is two parts Mean Girls, one part Black Christmas and, as we see this week, not all parts are equal. Jinkx makes the very most of it, Jaida plays the low notes, Monet lets down her hair and Raja shmacts her way to a Top 2 spot with The Crawford, all under the divine guidance of Janicza Bravo. Meanwhile, Untucked finds its way via party games, Michelle gives gorgeous praise on the runway and sends the two of us tumbling down the turnpike, RuPaul keeps it dumb and stupid, and we identify the worst of the air instruments.

Episode 347: Drag Race All Stars 7 – Episode 7: Legendary Legend Looks Jun 26, 2022

Show notes

All Stars is going old school Drag Race this week with a second design challenge! This time the inspiration is an imaginary Pinterest board featuring eight of RuPaul’s looks over the years, to varying degrees of memorability. Trinity and Jaida once again stitch a clear path to the Top 2, Monet covers all her bases, Yvie pays homage to Kimberly Goldson, Viv goes for the gold, Raja rips Ru’s look a new one, Shea’s got them ruffles on, and Jinkx has a purple leg. We have much to say, verbally and non-verbally, about sex sounds, how Pinterest works, what other potentially legendary looks they could have featured this week.

Episode 346: Drag Race All Stars 7 – Episode 6: Total Ru-quest Live Jun 19, 2022

Show notes

This week’s episode is a strange early 2000’s MTV throwback to girl groups, but featuring boy band vocals and followed by a Dolly Parton runway. In teams of two, the queens take very different approaches to this, with Jinkx leading The Other Girls in a pseudo-acting challenge to a clear victory over the M.S.T.R. sisters. The runway has a lot of Dolly dilly-dallying, Tove Lo has a cake on her head, Ross disappears into Carson and Raja wears that hat.

Episode 346: Drag Race All Stars 7 – Episode 5: Draguation Speeches Jun 12, 2022

Show notes

The valedictorians of Drag Race take the stage in their magna cum laudest gowns to impart their wisdom to an undefined class of students of Drag U, a show we thought was canceled after three seasons. To the surprise of just about no one, Jinkx not only excels but could come back to Drag U and teach a class in how to do this challenge. Raja reaches for the stars, gets two and celebrates with a bemused shimmy during the lip sync, Shea plays a familiar tune on her grandmother’s accordion pleat, Yvie is a living example of losing is the new winning and we continue to be divided on our takes on the Tuck.

Episode 345.5: BONUS! “Fire Island” Jun 07, 2022

Show notes

We’re kicking off Pride month with a bonus deep dive into the new gay rom-com with a little dram, “Fire Island”! We have as much to say about the movie as we do about what the movie is saying about class, status and social equity in this relatively tiny corner of an island. Plus: an In the Bedroom reference, the allusions to Pride & Prejudice, Erin’s story, fairies, ferries, $9 for Cheez-Its and the truth about the underwear party…

For a much more personal take on Fire Island and our own gay vacation experiences, check out our “Gaycations” episode at the OnlyMary’s level on Patreon!
