Alright Mary: All Things RuPaul's Drag Race

Latest Episodes:

Episode 411: Alright Barbie Jul 30, 2023

Show notes

We rollerbladed to the theaters this weekend to see “Barbie” (and “Oppenheimer”!) and we have much to Mary out about. Naturally we have a lot of formative memories of Barbie as a coveted childhood toy and, of course, Ken’s mound, but we also queen out on Weird Barbie, America Ferrera, the Ann Roth moment and Margot Robbie’s fantastic in plastic performance. We’re of varying opinions on Ken, but we can agree that it’s good to see Rhea Perlman. We also find time to discuss Ben Shapiro’s bear face, popcorn monsters and what Barbenheimer says about the state of America in 2023.

Episode 410: Drag Race All Stars 8 Ep 12 - Grand Finale Jul 23, 2023

Show notes

Enough clowning around, it’s time to crown a winner this week! Besides the requisite Tic Tac lunches and choreography rehearsal, we get to see the 9 semi-finalists sit around and win money out of a pink box, RuPaul putting her back brace into it and some pretty stellar finale looks across the board. (Except for some questionable wrinkles and that little wig!) Lala’s impeccable experience this season comes to a famous conclusion before Jimbo and Kandy funk it up for shits and giggles one last time and the best of the breasts takes home over $260,000 in Canadian dollars.

Episode 409: Drag Race All Stars 8 Ep 11 - The Fame Games Variety Extravaganza Jul 16, 2023

Show notes

We may be a week away from what seems like an inevitable victory for this season’s frontrunner, but the real winner this season is Monica Beverly Hillz for not being a soaking clock. We spend like 20 minutes on her variety show performance alone and at least another 15 minutes on a tangent about Mom Rock and Teacher-as-Savior movies, but we also have much to say about how Jimbo would have won again this week, the power of the LaLa Ri Experience, Jaymes Mansfield finally having her moment and whether or not we should talk about “Bring it On” on this podcast.

Episode 408: Drag Race All Stars 8 Ep 10 - The Letter "L" Jul 09, 2023

Show notes

This season’s makeover challenge brings some much needed lesbians to the workroom and a much appreciated Priyanka at the 11th hour. Kandy bakes a perfect Kookie and gets the obviously inevitable honor of picking the very last lipstick. We cover just about everything this week, including the occasional mention of Johnny’s trip to Spain, but certainly stick around till the end for an impassioned look back at the cast of 2003’s “Mona Lisa Smile.”

Episode 407: Drag Race All Stars 8 Ep 9 - Carson Kressley, This is Your Gay Life Jul 02, 2023

Show notes

This week’s roast features a toast from a ghost that truly does the most. Alexis and Kandy continue to play chess with their lipstick alliance while Jessica skis right into the top three like it’s Gwyneth Paltrow’s fucking back. We have a lot to say about your uncle’s girlfriend Katya, Jan in Untucked, the Roscoe’s viewing party, Abby Lee Miller going to Baskin Robbins and of course, Alexis Michelle.

Episode 406: Drag Race All Stars 8 Ep 8 - You're a Winner Baby! Jun 25, 2023

Show notes

The race to the finish line takes a dramatic turn at the tail end of this week’s design challenge. Jimbo’s facekini was one big red herring as Alexis made pinkie promises with LaLa Ri that ended up being middle fingers, Jessica continued to give a masterclass in staying under the radar, and all signs pointed to a much dreaded bottom two spot for Kandy Muse. When Nicky Doll’s boots aren’t quite made for assassinating, it looks like curtains for Kandy. Alas blood is thicker than Bubly sparkling water, and the LaLa Ri Experience is brought to a bittersweet end.

Episode 405: Drag Race All Stars 8 Ep 7 - Forensic Queens Jun 18, 2023

Show notes

The queens are making a scene this week, and we’re not even talking about the challenge itself. Emotions run high early in the day and Best Supporting Ru makes an emergency visit to the workroom to keep more queens from quitting the show through the power of proselytizing. The true crime improv challenge itself is a slickly produced step up, and while no one is dead on arrival, there were likely culprits for bottom two. The winner of this week’s runway pageant was, in the words of Alyssa Edwards, not on this stage, and Jorgeous punches the clock more than the ghost as our guest lip sync assassin. It ultimately ends up being a really good week for Lala Ri, and frankly, it’s about damn time.

Episode 404: Drag Race All Stars 8 Ep 6 - JOAN: The Unauthorized Rusical! Jun 11, 2023

Show notes

Tina, bring me the acts! It’s a Rusical this week as the surviving seven don their Mommies dearest for an Aunt Leland and Uncle Adam extravaganza of the ups, downs and Dunaways of Joan Crawford’s career. While no one was box office poison, Jessica went wild on those rose bushes, Lala was Mildred Fierce and Alexis gave Faye a run for her money. The judges go crazy for Kandy’s wire hangers and overlook whatever happened to Jimbo’s runway. We can handle the socks, but is there rigor morris afoot? Barbara, please.

Episode 403: Drag Race All Stars 8 Ep 5 - Snatch Game of Love Jun 04, 2023

Show notes

It’s love and war this week as our Top 8 seek Las Culturista connections in the Snatch Game of Love. Hearts are broken in the workroom when Heidi decides to go towards the light (and exit the studio), but of course none more than Alexis. The ruveals on the runway may have been big on bodysuits, but Jimbo’s Adam and Eve is a revelation. (To say nothing of that twisted Shirley Temple.)

Episode 402: Drag Race All Stars 8 Ep 4 - Screen Queens May 28, 2023

Show notes

It’s pilot season this week as three teams of three produce trailers of their own TV shows. Best Friends 4 Never might get picked up, mostly in order to give Jimbo her own show, but Getoff Island gives off mid-season cancellation vibes. (And don’t even get us started on the grammatical decisions made by the title Run Queen, Run.) We have a lot to say about unrelated things like The Warner Brothers Store and the sister in “Dirty Dancing,” but we also queen out on Alexis’s bare-assed runway confession, Jimbo’s Creed, the divine presence of Aunt Shannel and the inherent shame of the Fame Game.
