'WHAT MAKES A HERO?' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service) Jan 20, 2019
    Show notes

The message was delivered on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION I took my daughter to see her birth-mother and siblings in Alabama over the winter holiday. Along the way we stopped at the Laramie Hotel where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. It was a painful and poignant journey through some of the sacred places of the Civil Rights era. In Birmingham I visited the 16th Street Baptist Church where a bomb killed four girls on a Sunday morning in 1963. As we celebrate Dr. King's birthday this year, I find myself inspired by this trip of a Caucasian father and his ten year old African American daughter in which we traveled to the heart of human inhumanity and heroism. All of our adult choirs and our children and youth choirs have prepared special music for the services. Some of our youngest have also prepared a beautiful medley of select lines from Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech. Come be moved and inspired to live the dream! 'WHAT'S SO AMAZING ABOUT GRACE?' - A sermon by Carlton D. Pearson (Contemporary Service) Jan 20, 2019
    Show notes

The sermon was delivered on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Carlton D. Pearson, Affiliate Minister. DESCRIPTION What's amazing about the humanity of grace is that it can be expressed and experienced in and to every extreme and polarity. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was the epitome of the expression of Grace. John Newton, the author of the famous song "Amazing Grace", a slave owner and trader most of his life, experienced an element of it in a most profound, life-threatening and supposedly life-changing way. To some, grace is unmerited favor, and to others it's enabling and/or empowerment. Grace is a human faculty and a spiritual charisma. When the two virtues are combined harmoniously is when it becomes truly amazing, positively effecting every area of your self, your soul and your life! 'BEGINNING AGAIN... IN LOVE' - A sermon by Rev. Barbara Prose (Humanist Service) Jan 13, 2019
    Show notes

The message was delivered on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry, at the Humanist Service. DESCRIPTION According to Dogen Zenji, the 12th-century founder of Soto Zen Buddhism, reality is created and destroyed 6,400,099,980 times a day - or around 70,000 times a second. Modern science agrees with this ancient wisdom. The Higgs boson, or "God particle," the building block of the universe, exists for only a millionth of a millionth of a millionth of a millionth of a second. This means that life is in a constant state of refreshing itself, suggesting that we can do the same. This is one way to understand grace. Can we accept and surrender to what is constantly becoming, allowing our minds and our relationships another chance ... to begin again ... in love? 'THE HUMANITY OF GRACE' - A sermon by Carlton D. Pearson (Contemporary Service) Jan 13, 2019
    Show notes

The sermon was delivered on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Carlton D. Pearson, Affiliate Minister. DESCRIPTION The idea of grace tends to trigger religious thoughts of a God who measures grace through sympathy and a kindness. In a non-religious sense, grace is one reflecting the same traits of sympathy and kindness as entirely human, evolving and including benevolence, simple elegance, and refinement of movement or mind. Grace and graciousness is a culture and characteristic we embrace and encourage as a spiritual community here at All Souls. We begin 2019 with an emphasis on grace through January, projecting it into the entire year. Join me to make the start of the year a freshly inspired reality. 'HOW TO HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR: THE BUDDHIST WAY' - A message by Rev. Dr. Victor M. Parachin (Humanist Service) Jan 06, 2019

DESCRIPTION Sometime in 46 BC, Julius Caesar established January 1 as New Year's day. 'WHAT'S SO AMAZING ABOUT GRACE?' - A sermon by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Traditional Service) Jan 06, 2019
    Show notes

The sermon was delivered on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister. DESCRIPTION One of the most wonderful and potentially problematic ideas in religion is grace. It implies that no matter what a person has done, that person can still enjoy the gift of grace. Most people prefer a world in which people who do wrong face the negative consequences of their actions. Grace, it would seem, flies in the face of justice. It begs the question, "What's So Amazing About Grace?" 'HAVE A PG NEW YEAR (PEACE & GRACE)' - A sermon by Rev. Gerald L. Davis (Traditional Service) Dec 30, 2018
    Show notes

The sermon was delivered on Sunday, December 30, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Gerald L. Davis, Affiliate Minister. DESCRIPTION As we end this year seeking peace and expecting grace, may we understand we have a role to play in this equation. Peace comes from Justice and Grace is assured. But, if you consider that the odds against achieving a peaceful and graceful world are greater than any useful fiction you may hold, then you're missing the whole point. Come join me in worship on Sunday as we unpack and make an impact.
