Live Longer And Prosper Series With Tim Hays (013) Apr 10, 2018
    Show notes

The thirteenth episode of All About Your Benjamins The Podcast is also the first episode in a new series I'm calling Live Longer and Prosper. LLAP is an experiment to find how to incorporate health and wellness into financial planning by examining different ways to improve our health. As I mention in the podcast introduction, we spend so much time focusing on the financial plan and investments, but what good are all of the efforts if we are not in good enough health to enjoy it all? In this episode, I'm joined by my close friend Tim Hays and we have a very open and honest conversation about a number of topics ranging from why nutrition and fitness are so important, different ways to try and improve overall health like fasting, dietary changes, weight training, and more. We also discuss how difficult it can be to find information due to conflicting studies funded by companies with agendas. I had a lot of fun with this episode and I think Tim and I laid the foundation for a great series. You can read here to learn more about why I started this series. As with anything discussed on this podcast, nothing Tim and I discuss should be considered advice; we are not healthcare professionals and a far from experts. It's important you consult your healthcare professional before making changes to your lifestyle! It's time to start thinking beyond the number when it comes to your financial plan and to take a look at how your health can impact your financial plan both financially and physically! iTunes: All About Your Benjamins The Podcast Ep. 013 Show Notes Dr. Rhonda Patrick website Invest Like The Best Podcast with Dr. Peter Attia Dr. Peter Attia Dr. Dominic D'Agostino The Whim Hof Method Primal Swoledier The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson It Starts With Food by Melissa Hardwick Unconventional Medicine by Chris Kresser The Four Hour Body by Tim Ferriss Found My Fitness Podcast (Dr. Rhonda Patrick) Fed Up What The Health and Robb Wolf Rebuttal EverlyWell Food Sensitivity Test Disclaimer: Nothing on this blog should be considered advice, or recommendations. Talking Fee-Only and Fiduciary With Brad Sherman (012) Apr 03, 2018
    Show notes

In the twelfth episode of All About Your Benjamins The Podcast I'm joined by President of Sherman Wealth Management, Brad Sherman. Like so many of my guests, Brad and I originally connected via Twitter. What started out as a simple retweet led to a brief exchange on Twitter and then to this episode. Brad and I discuss the Department of Labor's Fiduciary Ruling, what it means and looks like to be a fiduciary, fee-only planning and more. I even learn about a new workout program, called Warrior Sculpt, that piqued my interest. I really enjoyed getting to know Brad beyond Twitter, and I'm looking forward to getting a chance to hang with him in person later this month at the StocktoberFest East conference in New York City; I have a feeling this won't be his only appearance on the podcast. Be sure to check out all of Brad's social media and give him a follow. I hope you enjoy! iTunes: All About Your Benjamins The Podcast Ep. 012 Show Notes: Investment News: What Does The New CFP Standard Mean For A CFP At A Wirehouse? Mastering Your Mindset With Dasarte Yarnway (011) Mar 27, 2018
    Show notes

On the eleventh episode of All About Your Benjamins The Podcast I'm joined by CEO and Co-Founder of Berknell Financial Group, Dasarte Yarnway. Not only is Dasarte a CEO at the age of 26, but he is also a published author with his new book Young Money--making me feel like an underachiever at the age of 36! In Young Money Dasarte shares four actions to help readers build wealth, and I asked him to join me to discuss one particular action--Mastering Your Mindset. Most financial books cover the basics of budgeting, asset allocation, saving, etc. and all of those(and more) are covered in Young Money, but I really appreciate how Dasarte goes beyond and discusses the psychological areas tied to personal finance as well. In our time together we also discuss his childhood and how it shaped his views on money, his career as a football player at the University of California-Berkeley, how he got interested in finance and more. I think you will enjoy Dasarte and our conversation; he will definitely be someone you will hear from again on the podcast. Be sure to order a copy of his book for yourself or someone who could use a good introduction to personal finance. Show notes

The tenth episode of All About Your Benjamins The Podcast welcomes yet another member of the Newfound Research crew. I'm joined by Nathan Faber, Vice President of Investment Strategies, to discuss a paper he recently wrote comparing a dollar-cost averaging strategy with a lump sum investment strategy. You might be surprised to learn which strategy the research suggests is optimal. We'll discuss Nathan's research, the psychological aspect of choosing one strategy over the other, and how to decide which approach is best under different circumstances. We also discuss Nathan's background as a chemical engineer, how he landed at Newfound and staying true to my roots, we also discuss intermittent fasting. I really enjoyed my time with Nathan, and I hope to have him on the show again to discuss future research papers. Factor Investing with Corey Hoffstein (009) Feb 27, 2018
    Show notes

The ninth episode of All About Your Benjamins The Podcast is a special one--in this episode, I'm joined by Corey Hoffstein, co-founder and CIO of Newfound Research. I've followed Corey for a few years now and have had the opportunity to talk with him on a number of occasions, so when he agreed to come on the podcast I was extremely excited. Corey is one of the sharpest people I've met and there are a number of topics I could have discussed with him, but I settled on factor investing since it is a topic he has written about on numerous occasions. For many listeners, the concept of factor investing may be a new topic and there is no one better to introduce the topic to you than Corey. In this episode, Corey will introduce you to factor investing, how it can be used in a portfolio, and what needs to be considered if/when using factors in a portfolio. He also shares his favorite factor and a great introductory book if you are interested in learning more. There is a lot of great information in this episode, and Corey does an amazing job breaking down a complicated topic in terms we can all understand. Don't worry, despite all of the investment conversations, we still find time to talk a little fitness. Disclaimer: Although we do not discuss in great detail, Newfound Research does offer mutual funds investing in strategies we discuss in this episode. Corey's appearance and mention of his firm and mutual fund do not represent an endorsement of Newfound Research or its funds. This conversation should also not be considered a recommendation of investment strategy or funds. Consult your financial advisor if you are interested in factor investing. iTunes: All About Your Benjamins Ep. 009 Show Notes: Twitter: @choffstein Flirting With Models Blog Newfound Research Website Your Complete Guide To Factor-Based Investing by Larry Swedroe Disclaimer: Nothing on this blog should be considered advice, or recommendations. Foundations Of Financial Planning With Tim Mullooly (007) Feb 15, 2018
    Show notes

In the seventh episode of All About Your Benjamins The Podcast I'm joined by Tim Mullooly, one the fearsome foursome at Mullooly Asset Management. Tim works alongside his father Tom and his brothers Brendan and Casey--you'll be hearing more from the Mullooly clan in the future. I recently was a guest on Tim's podcast, Living With Money, and I asked him to join me on AAYB to continue our conversation into a deeper discussion about the foundations of a financial plan. Many individuals are approached by "financial advisors" claiming to offer financial planning when in reality it becomes a sales pitch or only asset management. Tim and I cover the areas you should have addressed when working with a financial advisor to create your financial plan. If some of these topics are new to you, then it may be time to revisit your plan and possibly your financial advisor. It was a great conversation and I think it will be helpful to those wanting to get started on their financial planning, but not quite sure where to start. We'll discuss what volatility and the VIX are, how he uses it in his job, how the average investor should react to volatility, and cover the risks of some of the investments available dealing with volatility. There is no one more qualified to cover this topic; Andrew is the 2017 Charles H. Dow Award winner for his paper on volatility, and we're lucky to steal some of his time! It was a lot of fun having Ang on the podcast, and I hope you enjoy! iTunes: All About Your Benjamins The Podcast Ep. 004 Disclaimer: Nothing on this blog should be considered advice, or recommendations.
