The Rundown: Board Man Gets Paid Jun 14, 2019
    Show notes

Congratulations to the Toronto Raptors and Mr. "Board Man Gets Paid" Kawhi Leonard on winning the NBA Championship last evening. When it comes to trash talk, Kawhi isn't the flashiest with "Board", "Nope", "Bucket" and the infamous "Board Man Gets Paid", but he is one the best NBA players and multi-champion. His game isn't much flashier that his trash talking, but again, he gets the job done and is one of the league's top players. What if we took a Kawhi-like approach to our finances? Lock down the fundamentals, little flashiness, and get the job done? Give today’s Rundown a listen and think about your answers to them. And while you are at it, go ahead and subscribe to the RLS Wealth Management Rundown Flash Briefing. Disclaimer: Nothing on this blog should be considered advice, or recommendations. George Kinder: Life Planning And A Golden Civilization Jun 13, 2019
    Show notes

George Kinder is the father of the Life Planning movement, a unique approach to financial planning, and author of one of my favorite planning books, The Seven Stages Of Money Maturity; he also recently released another book that expands on the life planning concept called A Golden Civilization And The Map Of Mindfulness, which we discuss later in our conversation. Having George on the podcast was a huge honor as I've become a big fan of his after my podcast episode with Scott Frank last year (you can listen to that conversation here) and being introduced to his teachings. We cover everything from the Seven Stages of Money Maturity, to Kinder's three questions, to his Golden Civilization. Talking to George was very easy and enjoyable, and I think you'll really enjoy his passion for everything he does. The Rundown: To Save More, The Real Answer (Not Easiest) Is To Earn More Jun 12, 2019
    Show notes

There's no shortage of articles explaining how cutting back on minor spending, like daily coffees, can help jump-start savings (or paying down debt), and while not spending as much on coffee will certainly help, it most likely won't make or break a financial plan. The realest answer to the problem of wanting or needing to save more is to make more money--yes, I know that's an obvious answer and may sound a bit elitist, but it's true, so we should discuss it and not act like this option doesn't exist. Making more money is not easy to do, but it also is not an impossible task. The barriers to entry to get started with a business have never been lower--if that's your preferred method of generating more income--think side hustle. The labor market is strong and demand for good employees is high, which is a positive for asking for a raise, more responsibilities, or even looking elsewhere. This may not be an option for everyone, but IT IS an option that should at least be explored and discussed if you are serious about saving more, paying down more debt, or just having more breathing room in your budget. Give today’s Rundown a listen and think about your answers to them. And while you are at it, go ahead and subscribe to the RLS Wealth Management Rundown Flash Briefing. The Rundown: George Kinder’s Three Questions Jun 04, 2019
    Show notes

George Kinder is the father of life planning and more in-depth and intentional financial planning process; I had the privilege to talk with George for an episode that will be on the podcast next week, but I couldn't wait to share the three questions that he teaches in his book The Seven Stages Of Money Maturity. Give today's Rundown a listen and think about your answers to them. And while you are at it, go ahead and subscribe to the RLS Wealth Management Rundown Flash Briefing. The Rundown: The Inverted Yield Curve Is Back In The News May 30, 2019
    Show notes

Last July I did a Whiteboard Video about the inverted yield curve. Earlier this year I talked about the inverted yield curve on a couple of the Week In Review Videos. And today, the Rundown is about the inverted yield curve again. As talks with China appear to be going nowhere, for the time being, investors are re-evaluating their tolerance for risk and the yield curve has begun to invert, which in financial media is a big deal. Be sure to give the Rundown a listen to learn more about the indicator. In addition to today's Rundown, I've also included the video showing what an inverted yield curve looks like and giving a little more information on it for those interested. The Rundown: What’s Most Important To You May 17, 2019
    Show notes

The stereotypical goals of retirement and college are important and often the focus of a financial plan, but the probably won't bring the greatest satisfaction in your life. What about the other values and experiences that are important to you and your family? Are you planning for those? Do you even know what those are? In Friday's RLS Wealth Management Rundown on your Alexa device, I discuss this in greater detail. I think it's such an important topic, I decided to add it to the All About Your Benjamins feed.
