Ep. 640: Adventuring Into Retirement - Curt & Cindy Liljedahl Jun 01, 2020
    Show notes

You’ll remember Curt from episode 491 where he talks about zero-gravity experiences. Today is a much different episode as he and his wife, Cindy, join us to talk about how they plan to adventure now that they’re retired from teaching. Combined, they have 60 years in the classroom and have been able to put in place a fantastic plan for experiencing these years of their lives to the fullest.

Even if you’re not anywhere to close retirement (like me), they share plenty of advice, tips, and tricks to help you build a life that perpetuates and prioritizes adventure.

You can find out more about them and their podcast, AdventuRetired (which launches today!) here:

    Ep. 638: Running 30 Marathons in 30 Countries Before Turning 30 - Liz Warner May 18, 2020
    Show notes

After running her first marathon in Tokyo after the loss of her father, Liz grew a deep love of running as a form of therapy and exercise. She had a self-proclaimed “addiction” for the high of crossing the finish line after over 26 miles of running, especially in places that were far from her hometown of Atlanta.

As she approached her 30th birthday while living in Paris, she decided to join her passion for travel and marathons into an adventure of a lifetime! She committed to run 30 marathons in 30 different countries by the time she turns 30 in June of 2020.

Each marathon focused on a different charity and she’s currently raising $100,000 to donate to the various causes. You find out more about her marathons and fundraising here.

Ep. 634: Traveling to Every Country in the World on a Teacher Salary - Brian Asher May 04, 2020
    Show notes

After humble beginnings in the world of sports, Brian was introduced to summiting mountains, vast wilderness, and travel when he went to work at a summer camp in Colorado that changed his life forever. After that experience, as well as encouragement from his brother, he was eager to see more of the world. That’s when he took a solo trip to Central America just to experience the culture and scenery.

    He was hooked!

Brian quickly began traveling all over the world, racking up visits to dozens of countries in a relatively short amount of time. It wasn’t long before the idea to visit every country in the world became his pursuit.

Today is the story of how Biran did just that. Well, every country except one...

Ep. 633: Survivor Winner - Ethan Zohn Apr 30, 2020
    Show notes

Ethan knows what it takes to survive. He’s faced cancer twice, lost his father at the age of 14, had teammates die of AIDS while playing professional soccer in Africa, and has won the reality show Survivor: Africa.

Today Ethan is joining Without Compromise to talk about what it means to survive difficult situations and ultimately use those tragedies for good in a principle he calls “never letting a crisis go to waste”. For example, when he won the $1 million prize for Survivor: Africa he decided to use the money to start Grassroot Soccer, an adolescent health organization that uses the popularity of soccer to educate at-risk youth all over the world. To date, they’ve educated over 2 million young people through their program.

Ethan was most recently on Survivor Season 40: Winners at War

Ep. 632: World Record Highlining - Ari DeLashmutt Apr 27, 2020
    Show notes

The world of highlining is often misunderstood as simply walking from one point to another across a thin webbing hundreds of feet in the air. While it is that, it’s so much more. Ari does an amazing job illustrating, even for the totally unfamiliar, the thrill, focus, and adventure of being out there on the line.

Most of the episode revolves around him and his friend’s ridiculous accomplishment of highlinging 2 km across an abandoned asbestos mine in (appropriately enough) Asbestos, Quebec.

The project was huge, ludicrous, and completely awesome.

    Enjoy.
