Add Heart to Peace Sep 21, 2021
    Show notes

Creating peace starts with living “heart first.” Humanity is in a period of profound change. Though this transformation period can be challenging, we must not lose sight of that which connects us as one human family. In a word, what connects us is heart. In this episode, we are talking about adding heart to peace and why peace is a product of heart-directed living. Deborah Rozman, Ph.D., our Add Heart® Podcast host, and her guest, sociologist, researcher, and acclaimed author Kingsley L. Dennis, Ph.D., discuss what it means to put the heart first and why it is the foundation for experiencing inner peace—and ultimately creating world peace. Peace is a choice we can make each day by practicing heart-based qualities, such as love, care, compassion, kindness, and forgiveness. As we witness climate disruption, resource depletion, financial inequities, international conflicts, and pandemic restrictions, it can be difficult to not feel frustrated, angry, judgmental, or have blame towards others, all of which feed separation and compromise our peace. The healing of separation is essential for inner and outer peace—and many people are feeling that life is shaking us awake to this requirement. Our host and guest, Deborah and Kingsley, will discuss how peace is first an inside job that starts with the heart. They will talk about an increasing collective heart opening on the planet that will help dissipate separation and conflict between people and nations and draw hopeful solutions for the many challenges humanity is experiencing. We’ll close this episode with a heart meditation to energize putting the heart first in our lives to increase our inner peace and to give peace a chance in how we interact with each other. More about our guest: Kingsley L. Dennis, Ph.D., is a sociologist and researcher. He is the co-founder of WorldShift International and co-author of the study New Media for a New Future: The Emerging Digital Landscape for a Planetary Society, produced as part of the Fuji Declaration for The Goi Peace Foundation in collaboration with the renowned global think tank Club of Budapest. He is the author of several critically acclaimed books including Healing the Wounded Mind, The Modern Seeker: A Perennial Psychology for Contemporary Times, and New Consciousness for a New World. He currently serves on the board of the Laszlo Institute of New Paradigm Research and runs his own publishing imprint, Beautiful Traitor Books.

What It Means to Add Heart and Why It’s Important Aug 17, 2021
    Show notes

What does it mean to “Add Heart”? Why is it even more important now? Internal pressure has built up due to the pandemic restrictions, and with so much change and instability happening, we wonder: will there ever be a new normal? How can adding heart help? Humanity is at an important junction. Adding heart means to show up each day with the intention to engage with life and with others from the core values of our heart. Research has shown that activating attributes of the heart, such as compassion, kindness, care, generosity, and patience, can help our immune system, our mental clarity, and our decision-making. A quote often attributed to Albert Einstein is, “The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.” The feelings and qualities of the heart lift our perceptions and thinking and help us find new solutions needed personally and as a society. Our Add Heart® Podcast host Deborah Rozman, President of HeartMath, and Howard Martin, Executive Vice President, talk about why adding heart is important right now for creating our new normal. Deborah and Howard provide practical examples of how people are adding heart to everyday situations and the benefits they are experiencing. They share an effective technique to add heart as a way to prepare yourself for each day and how this can uplift and add to your mental and emotional wellbeing―as well as help others. Connecting with our heart, we can learn to rise above a lot of stress and discover new opportunities for positive change within ourselves. Deborah and Howard close with a heart meditation to energize our intention to add more heart to our lives, to situations that need energetic support, and to our environment.

Add Heart to Summer Play Jul 20, 2021
    Show notes

After over a year of restrictions due to the global pandemic, many of us are excitedly looking forward to taking some time to get outside, relax, recharge, and connect with the playful part of ourselves this summer. There are many regenerative benefits available to us through getting outside to spend time in nature or to play that are essential to balancing our overall well-being. With the Summer Olympics almost here, it’s a great time to talk about how to add heart energy to get the most out of outdoor play or exercise—whether through walking, swimming, golfing, biking, tennis, or playing with the kids or grandkids. Our Add Heart® Call host Deborah Rozman, HeartMath® President and CEO, and her guest Peter Fox, founding executive producer of ESPN and Senior Content Editor for SportsEdTV, will talk about how adding heart to sports or play increases the benefits and the fun. Peter will share how he trains people from elite athletes to couch potatoes to use HeartMath coherence techniques, and he’ll provide tips that listeners can use right away. Peter will also share how professional athletes and teams are improving their skills using Heart-Focused Breathing™ and Quick Coherence® techniques. We’ll close with a heart-focused meditation to build a reservoir of heart energy we can each draw on to add heart to our exercise program and play over the next month. More about our guest: Peter Fox is Senior Content Editor for SportsEdTV, the leader in online sports instruction, and managing director of SportsEdTV’s Learn to Win peak performance training, powered by HeartMath research and technology. Add Heart to Increase Patience with Our Self and Others Jun 15, 2021
    Show notes

Patience isn’t just a virtue—it’s a necessity, especially during times of change and uncertainty. Patience is a powerful heart quality for maintaining mental and emotional well-being. It supports our ability to manage our energies with more ease and balance. When we act with impatience, our mind tries to rush energy or force outcomes, canceling the experience of flow and creating glitches in our intentions. Many of us are impatient to find a new sense of normal, yet “normal” is constantly challenged by unpredictable events. Patience is the art of intelligent waiting. Traffic jams, slow computers, and difficult people won’t disappear as we practice patience. However, patience helps to attune our mental and emotional nature to the most reasonable and effective way for responding to each situation that life presents. The practice of patience enables us to quietly sense our heart’s intuitive directions to guide us in making more effective choices. We invite you to join our Add Heart Call host Deborah Rozman, HeartMath President and CEO, and her guest Charlene Johnson, Nurse Manager of Perinatal Services at Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento, as they talk about why, in today’s uncertain energetic environment, it’s prime time to increase our patience baseline and make it an essential part of our new norm. Charlene sees patience as a key component of resilience. She will share why patience has been an important quality for her and the people she serves, especially throughout the past year of the pandemic. Deborah will share an exercise we can all use to replace impatience with patience and how, as we replace impatience with inner ease and patience, our responses will play out with more balance, resilience, and clearer discernment. We will close with a heart-focused meditation to add heart to our intention to practice a deeper patience with ourselves and with others over the next month and create a reservoir of heart energy we can each tap into whenever we need a patience booster. More About Our Guest: Charlene Johnson has been with Kaiser Permanente for 20 years. She is passionate about assisting the health care professional in transforming themselves so that they can transform the systems in which they work. She loves to inspire others to discover their purpose and increase their personal effectiveness. As the Nurse Manager of Perinatal Services at Kaiser, she oversees Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and the Special Care Nursery. She is also a Caritas Coach and a HeartMath Certified Trainer for the Northern California region. Charlene was instrumental in co-creating “Enhancing a Culture of Caring,” a four-part series that was rolled out to all the Northern California staff.

Soften the Energetic Environment May 18, 2021
    Show notes

Many philosophers and sages have spoken about the paradox of how what is soft can be strong. Think about water: It is fluid, soft, and yielding, and yet it has the power to overcome anything in its path, even that which appears rigid and hard. Tapping into higher heart qualities that embody both strength and softness allow us to rise up and meet each situation with kindness, care, love, compassion, and more clarity. Our Add Heart® Call host, Deborah Rozman, Ph.D., HeartMath® President and CEO, along with her guest Owen Ward, HeartMath Chief Strategy Officer, will talk about a “softener energetic” and how we can access it to help us find more flexibility and ease through whatever life presents. Many people find while walking on the beach or in the woods or looking at flowers that they are softening the energetic field within themselves, and then many things start to become clear. They access more effective discernment for their next steps. Deborah and Owen will also talk about what it means to soften the energetic environment within and around us—making it easier for others to access their hearts and experience increased clarity and discernment and a deeper connection. As a business executive and parent of two young boys, Owen will share how adding a softener energy helped him better handle business complexities. In addition, through the COVID-19 restriction period of the past year, like millions of other parents, Owen had to balance work with children at home as well as their homeschooling. He’ll share how the softener energy helped him and his family during times of frustration and anxiety. Deborah will share how broadcasting or radiating love is one of quickest ways to soften the energetic environment to improve relationships, reduce mechanical reactions and habits, and have more ease when dealing with health and other personal issues. She will also share how adding a softener helps her and others release themselves from the planetary stress and anxiety waves that many people feel when chaotic events occur around the planet. We will close with a heart-focused meditation to add heart to softening our personal energetic environment and the global energetic field environment. We will also build a reservoir of soft heart energy we can each access as needed during the next month.

The Movement of Heart Awakening Mar 17, 2021
    Show notes

The heart – it makes us better at every level individually and collectively. While separation, conflict, mistrust, and misunderstanding continue to create chaos within societies and between nations, there’s a stronger force emerging with an even greater momentum – that force is the heart and it’s awakening in millions of people around the world. Increasing numbers of people are experiencing their heart’s stirring and reaching out. For some it’s a quiet pull or nudge to connect and participate, while for others it’s a powerful need to step up and act in ways that facilitate togetherness and meaningful heart-felt connection. Our Add Heart Call host, Deborah Rozman, HeartMath CEO and President, will be joined by Gavin Andrews, Managing Director of HeartMath in the UK and Ireland to talk about a growing heart-directed movement that’s currently happening throughout the world. It’s happening with people who want to connect more with their own heart and with the hearts of others. This is what inspired Gavin to start the “WeAddHeart” initiative, an international momentum of small groups coming together, online, to experience simple but powerful heart-focused meditations and practices. These practices are improving personal health and happiness, while helping participants feel they are energetically playing a part in raising social and global consciousness with the aim of creating greater fairness, understanding and peace between peoples and nations. Deborah and Gavin will discuss their observations of the momentum of heart awakening and how why people’s hearts are saying now is the time to bring our lofty, idealistic dreams of peace and equality down to earth and into reality. People are realizing they have to take a heart stand to do this for themselves, their country and the planet. An outcome of the global pandemic is the recognition that although physically separated we can still come together in the heart online and make a difference with initiatives like WeAddHeart, which provide a platform for accelerated heart awakening and connection. We’ll close with a heart-focused meditation to energize this growing heart awakening and our personal role in this momentum through our deeper care and connection.

Refresh and Amplify Gratitude Mar 17, 2021
    Show notes

There are moments that draw our appreciation; acknowledgment for our efforts on a project, a warm smile from someone passing by, a surprisingly quick-moving checkout line at the grocery store. We’re grateful for a beautiful day and for our loved ones. When we give appreciation to others, it uplifts them and us. Appreciation and gratitude are qualities of the heart that bring happiness. In this month’s Add Heart Call, our host, Deborah Rozman, Ph.D. and HeartMath CEO, and our special guest, Marci Shimoff, a #1 New York Times bestselling author of Happy for No Reason and Love for No Reason, will discuss how we can refresh and amplify our gratitude and appreciation as a daily practice. Marci will share how gratitude affects our “happiness set-point” and why it’s so important to practice appreciation or gratitude consciously. Deborah and Marci will discuss scientific research on the impact of gratitude on our health and offer several powerful daily practices that can increase our experience of gratitude in life. With the holiday season quickly approaching, it’s also a good time to talk about the risks of over-giving and the challenge of receiving. Marci will share her insights on these issues. We’ll close with a heart-focused meditation to refresh our connection with gratitude and appreciation – and set our intention to energize these heart qualities. Marci is a highly sought-after international speaker and the cofounder of “Your Year of Miracles.” She has penned several books, including the New York Times Bestseller Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul.
