Nesta recalls her troubling nightmare and opens up to Emerie and Gwyn about her trauma. Meanwhile, Cassian checks in with Rhys only to find out that his High Lady and her unborn child are in serious danger. Now as you can expect, we have A LOT to say about all of this so prepare for a long rant. Cassian shares the terrible news with Nesta before distracting them both from their worries with a spicy deal. Nesta attempts scrying again in front of most of the Inner Circle. She is successful but in order to pull her back from the void, Cassian gives everyone quite the show.
Chaol’s kidnappers face the very scary consequences of their actions, aka Celaena! The group quickly realizes their mistake after a dramatic entrance and a couple dozen dagger throws. Archer reveals his true alliances and his top ally, Nehemia. Chaol gets called out for withholding information and his omissions are made worse after a grisly death.
Join us for the first episode in a new series where we are fighting back against the stigma surrounding mental health. Ya’ll know we hold nothing back with you and this series is no different. We each give our own mini mental health introduction detailing our own struggles, red flags and coping mechanisms. It’s our hope that this series (and our bookish community) provides a safe space for you to chat about your own struggles and find solace in knowing you are not alone in them. Love ya’ll! NOTE: TW for loss, anxiety, ED, depression.
After seeing the new trainees’ bravery in action, Nesta attempts scrying again. To say it goes poorly would be an understatement. Nesta’s snooping enrages the Cauldron yet again. We have a brief interlude as Mads explains the latest evolution to her Cauldron theory. Then BOOM! Nesta experiences a nightmare that leaves the House shaking and the Bat Boys trembling in fear of her true power: pure death. We round out this week’s episode by letting ya’ll get to know Baba a bit more by sharing her latest feral antics.
Join us today as we tackle THREE chapters. Crazy, right? Anywho, Nehemia and Elena have a super secret meeting ending with Nehemia making some type of sinister plan. Chaol joins the King and nobility on a hunt and learns the King plans to “question” Nehemia. Unfortunately, Chaol doesn’t make it back from that hunt. His kidnappers leave a ransom note for Calaena and now we wait for the carnage.
Nesta makes it to 3000 steps before throwing in the towel and our hamstrings are on fire just thinking about it. The Valkyrie Book Club is off to a great start with sweet Gwyn beginning her journey into some spicier books. Merrill tries to pull rank with her obscure heritage. Obviously this doesn’t fly with Nesta. Her standoff with the grumpy priestess has an unexpected bonus: 3 more trainees! And jeez louise this is a long chapter…
Nesta is having some trouble focusing on training but luckily Gwyn makes for a good buffer. After gathering some gifts (or bribes) for Emerie, Nesta sends Cassian to Windhaven again to coax Emerie to join them. Voila! Nesta and Gwyn get a new training partner! Rhys makes an appearance at the training ring much to Nesta’s annoyance. After once again baiting Nesta, Rhys earns himself a scolding by Cassian.
Chaol takes Celaena’s confession about as well as we all expected, i.e. not well. He does warm up to the idea eventually and his birthday ends on a high note for both of them. Poor Dorian is still spirally and his downward journey leads him back to Baba Yellowlegs. Poor decision all around, especially when we find out Roland followed him there. After a rather fun visit to a broom closet, Celaena has a rather nasty fight with Nehemia about the princess’s proposed rebellion.
Join us for a very special collaboration with Bookmates Pod as we discuss the absolutely breathtaking debut novel from Riley Nash - Hold Me Under. This is Mads’ all-time favorite book and for good reason! This book has it all: enemies-to-lovers, sports romance, forced proximity, fake dating…everything you want in a dark romance! As a reminder, please be sure to check the trigger warnings before you dive into this book. Note this episode is NOT spoiler free.
We’ve got first day of school vibes today as Gwyn joins Nesta and Cassian for training. She is a quick study and crushes the workout…even in her heavy robes! Nesta and Cassian take a trip to our least favorite place, Windhaven. While Nesta hangs out with her other new friend (and meets her unsavory cousin), Cassian is stuck with Eris. That encounter doesn’t go well. Nesta helps relieve Cassian’s stress until Az decides to enter his villain era.
