    Show notes

On this week’s episode of aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Ariel, Rick, and David are joined by Sylvain Berneron from Breitling. To kick off the show, it’s a discussion about whether or not watch collecting advice is actually intended to benefit consumers, or if people would just be better off ignoring all of it, and simply buying whatever timepieces they actually enjoy. From there, it’s a discussion of what our hosts think might be unveiled at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2023 from Parmigiani Fleurier, Roger Dubuis, A. Lange Söhne, IWC, Vacheron Constantin, Montblanc, and more. The conversation then turns to whether or not having everything produced in-house is actually good for the greater watch industry, before wrapping up the discussion by talking about the return of Daniel Roth under LVMH, and what we might expect from the brand in the future.

    Show notes

This week on the aBlogtoWatch Weekly podcast, Ariel, Rick, and David are joined by Alex, a watchmaker and co-founder of the Fifth Wrist website and co-host of its companion podcast. The group wastes no time and starts off with a discussion of the perpetual dissatisfaction of watch enthusiasts by asking whether there's such thing an "Exit Watch," which inevitably evolves into a conversation about the guys' favorite personal watches and Ariel disclosing that he has so many watches, he forgets he owns some of them. Then, the gang has thoughts on CR7's Al-Nasser welcome gift, on the Swiss watch industry's annual financial highlights reel, on Seiko's (and other brands') increasing prices, and on JLC's used watches. There's also a riveting discussion about car clocks, and Omega's new Super Racing Speedmaster gets sighed at. Plus, Ariel finally shares the juicy details on his jacket!

Rolex's Lawyers Get Bored, The Least Sexy Complication, A National Peanut Butter Day Watch, And The Trouble With Watch Accuracy Jan 26, 2023
    Show notes

This week on the aBlogtoWatch Weekly podcast, Ariel, Rick, and David are joined by Pete McConvill of the eponymous YouTube channel! Things start out with Ariel seeming to have broken his own rules and made a list; he's quick to reframe the situation as a simple collection of thoughts, not to the exclusion of other thoughts. The conversation touches on why the current market favors wild colors, the merits of reporting movement accuracy, and superfluous complications (plus David discusses samples that have broken during the review process---yikes!). The group discusses whether Rolex was in the right threatening legal action against a tiny British company making a clock for kids and how two very different brands are both making very large amounts of money. On the flip side, a discussion of brands who aren't spending money on themselves with unsurprisingly mediocre results.

    Show notes

This week on the aBlogtoWatch Weekly podcast, Ariel, David, and Rick are joined by Jose Pereztroika of Perezcope! The team talks about three races they hope will stop before they finish: the race to the top (of the grey market), the race to the archives (for reissues), and the race to the bottom (of the ocean). That discussion branches off into vintage watches, auctions, and Jose's favorite release of 2022. Of course, how could Shakira not come up in a watch podcast, so the guys weigh in on whether they'd buy a Rolex or a Casio if they could only have one or the other. And if you can imagine, there were even more Seikos than were discussed last week, though the ones mentioned this week aren't for sale, sadly. The show wraps up with some top picks from LVMH Watch Week. Plus, another round of Guess the Price!

How Ulysse Nardin Shattered The Mold With The Freak Jan 08, 2023
    Show notes

This special edition of the aBlogtoWatch Weeklypodcast is brought to you by Ulysse Nardin. Rick and David sit down with Jean-Christophe Sabatier, Chief Product Officer at Ulysse Nardin, to talk about the incredible Ulysse Nardin Freak family of watches, how they came to be, and how they changed the watch industry forever. Listen below or on the player of your choice. Ulysse Nardin is a historic, technologically advanced producer of mechanical luxury watches, headquartered in Le Locle and Neuchatel, Switzerland. The independent watchmaker has made a name for itself through its thousands of award-winning marine chronometers in the past, and through its innovative mechanical watches from the 1980s to date. In 2001, it introduced the Freak, a groundbreaking watch with an orbital movement that laid the groundwork for the unconventional watch designs that are now almost commonplace in the watch industry. Owned by Kering from 2014 until 2022, the brand was recently purchased outright by its management, reemerging as a truly independent brand. To learn more, please visit the Ulysee Nardin website. Highlights 0:52 The origin of the Ulysse Nardin Freak 5:20 How the Freak works 9:24 The revolutionary mechanics of the Freak 11:40 The magic of silicium 21:30 The 21-year evolution of the Ulysse Nardin Freak 23:43 Prioritizing engineering and design over marketing 30:00 The importance of being an independent brand 34:22 What's next for Ulysse Nardin Sponsored posts are a form of advertising that allows sponsors to share useful news, messages, and offers to aBlogtoWatch readers in a way traditional display advertising is often not best suited to.
