Jaime Mason from There Were Wires Apr 28, 2021

Show notes

There Were Wires. Many of you probably never checked the band out when they were active and playing shows but, now is your chance to get familiar. Jaime Mason was the vocalist of the dark hardcore/punk/metal band from the Northeast (specifically the Martha's Vineyard hardcore scene...which is a hilarious thing to type) and has just recently re-released their awesome EP "Somnambulists" on the re-launched Iodine Recordings. We discuss his time in the band, working in the restaurant industry and why resurrecting the band now made sense. Enjoy!

Curtis Running Rabbit Lefthand from Wild Rose Hardcore Festival and Indegineous Resiliance in Music (IRIM) Apr 21, 2021

Show notes

So stoked to talk to Curtis Running Rabbit Lefthand who is a member of the Blackfoot tribe located in and around the Calgary, Alberta area in Canada. He's one of the founders of the Wild Rose Hardcore Festival as well as working with the IRIM organization to get members of the Indiginous community with the music industry as a whole. His POV is very interesting and enlightening and as a hardcore kid, you love to see the hustle and work to highlight this important part of our scene. We discuss his introduction to heavy music, working to build a community and so much more. Dive in and learn a thing or two, I know I did.

Jamison Isaak from Teen Daze Apr 14, 2021

Show notes

As you grow older, your musical taste changes and evolves and I for one, welcome it. You don't have to listen to aggressive music all day, every day. Of course, you don't need me to tell you that but the past few years I have gotten really into dreamy soundscapes and our guest this week creates those in spades. His name is Jamison Isaak and plays under the moniker Teen Daze. I had a sneaking suspicion that he had a connection to punk/hardcore/DIY and boy, was I right. We get in deep with his life in rural Canada, the importance of Much Music, melodic hardcore and so much more. Trust me, you'll enjoy this convo even if you aren't familiar with his music.

Joe Nelson from Trust Records and Ignite Apr 07, 2021

Show notes

Oh boy, got a great one this week for you with the So Cal hardcore legend (my words, not his) Joe Nelson. He's the original vocalist of Ignite, road dog for bands like Quicksand, Insted and more. He also played in bands like The Killing Flame and is gearing up to release a new LP from another one of his musical projects, Triggerman. He is also responsible for launching Trust Records, which is a great re-issue label that is making sure some seminal records don't go out of print and are widely available for all. We discuss his time on the road with bands, the legacy of OC hardcore and why he chose to start this label. Dive in and enjoy!

David Farrier, filmmaker/journalist (Dark Tourist, Tickled, Webworm) & Armchair Expert Mar 31, 2021

Show notes

I love David Farrier. His documentary Tickledwas one of the most captivating and bizarre stories I have ever seen put to film and from then I just seemed to encounter his work across the web. Fast forward a few years later and our paths crossed when friend (and previous guest of the show, Aaron Harris from Isis) connected us over email and then, it all came together. I had to have him on the pod to discuss his love of music, connection to subcultures and film making. Listen and enjoy!

Dylan Baldi from Cloud Nothings Mar 24, 2021

Show notes

It's good to admit when you are wrong and I did that with Dylan on this weeks episode. I wrote off Cloud Nothings for no reason beyond my own personal misconceptions and boy, that was silly. They are a great band and I had to have Dylan Baldi, the lead singer/brainchild, from Cloud Nothings to discuss many things including life in Cleveland, libraries and evolving your sound over time. Get into it!

Mike Williams from Eyehategod Mar 17, 2021

Show notes

Sludge metal/doom/stoner...whatever you want to call them, Eyehategod is a completely unique and incredible band which is why I was happy to throw open the podcast studio doors (aka the internet) and invite the vocalist, Mike Williams in for a chat. We discuss nihilism within the bands music, how his reputation sometimes precedes him and living for today. It's a great discussion and hope you enjoy!

Nate DiMeo from The Memory Palace Mar 10, 2021

Show notes

Podcasts are cool and today I have the host of one of my favorite podcasts around, The Memory Palace, Nate Dimeo on the show. I knew he had a connection to punk and hardcore, but after our conversation it's WAYYYYYY deeper than I could have ever imagined. We discuss pursuing art as a career, Ebullition Records and being a full time podcaster. Listen and learn!

Dylan Walker from Full of Hell Mar 03, 2021

Show notes

Full Of Hell rules. Dylan Walker is a nice human and we made some podcast magic here. I was stoked to bring Dylan on and discuss his upbringing in rural Pennsylvania, the importance of Hydrahead Records and living life in van (and being happy about it)! Let's do this!

Mike Reed from Small Brown Bike Feb 24, 2021

Show notes

It's Small Brown Bike time! I love this band and saw them many times in the early 2000's (and Mike was actually one of the first interviews I ever did when I was writing for zines, remember those?) and fell in love with the band. They've subsequently released more amazing music and been active here and there when shows were a thing. Mike had been on my list for some time to have on the show, and we made it happen. We discuss his life in rural Michigan, being compared to Hot Water Music and following the flow (sounds mysterious, but it makes sense when you listen to the chat).
