In Time Of Silver Rain - Langston Hughes Feb 24, 2023
    Show notes

In Time Of Silver Rain By Langston Hughes
    In time of silver rain
The earth puts forth new life again,
    Green grasses grow
    And flowers lift their heads,
    And over all the plain
    The wonder spreads
    Of Life,
    Of Life,
    Of life!
    In time of silver rain
    The butterflies lift silken wings
    To catch a rainbow cry,
And trees put forth new leaves to sing
    In joy beneath the sky
    As down the roadway
    Passing boys and girls
    Go singing, too,
    In time of silver rain
    When spring
    And life
    Are new.

The Good Life - Tracy K. Smith Feb 17, 2023

The Good Life By Tracy K. Smith

When some people talk about money

They speak as if it were a mysterious lover

Who went out to buy milk and never

Came back, and it makes me nostalgic

For the years I lived on coffee and bread,

Hungry all the time, walking to work on payday

Like a woman journeying for water

From a village without a well, then living

One or two nights like everyone else

On roast chicken and red wine.

Prayer Changes Things: Prayer against Intrusive Thoughts Feb 17, 2023
    Show notes

Prayer for healing - Prayer against evil.
Intrusive thoughts are unwanted thoughts that seem to come from nowhere. They can be disturbing and unpleasant. A person usually feels unable to control these thoughts and may find they distract from daily tasks. (Medical News Today)
1 Peter 1:13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:5-7 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so.

The Working Poor Feb 17, 2023
    Show notes

Millions of people work to pay bills across the sea. This piece demonstrates the frustrations of the economy.
People living paycheck to paycheck are sometimes referred to as the working poor. Living paycheck to paycheck can occur at all different income levels. The working poor are often low-wage earners with limited skills but can include those with advanced degrees and skills. Many Americans live paycheck to paycheck because the cost of living has not increased in proportion to salaries. As the cost of living surged in 2022, the number of Americans living paycheck to paycheck jumped to 64% as of December, according to a recent report. Paycheck to paycheck is an expression describing an individual who would be unable to meet financial obligations if unemployed. Those living paycheck to paycheck predominantly devote their salaries to expenses. Living paycheck to paycheck may also mean living with limited or no savings and refer to people at greater financial risk if suddenly unemployed than individuals who have amassed a cushion of savings. The giver (for Berdis) - James Baldwin Feb 10, 2023
    Show notes

The giver (for Berdis) by James Baldwin
    If the hope of giving
    is to love the living,
    the giver risks madness
    in the act of giving.
Some such lesson I seemed to see
in the faces that surrounded me.
    Needy and blind, unhopeful, unlifted,
what gift would give them the gift to be gifted?
The giver is no less adrift
than those who are clamouring for the gift.
If they cannot claim it, if it is not there,
if their empty fingers beat the empty air
and the giver goes down on his knees in prayer
knows that all of his giving has been for naught
and that nothing was ever what he thought
and turns in his guilty bed to stare
at the starving multitudes standing there
and rises from bed to curse at heaven,
he must yet understand that to whom much is given
much will be taken, and justly so:
I cannot tell how much I owe.
