Morally Indefensible

From Marc Smerling, the creator behind The Jinx and Crimetown, comes a story of murder, friendship and betrayal. In 1979, Ex-Green Beret Doctor Jeffrey MacDonald was convicted of the murders of his pregnant wife and two young daughters. When he meets a famous young journalist named Joe McGinniss, the two become fast friends. Joe agrees to write a book about Jeff’s case to finally reveal the truth. The book, Fatal Vision, became a smash bestseller and a TV limited series watched by millions of people. But the story it told wasn’t the story Jeff expected…And that sets off a series of events that ruins both their lives.

Morally Indefensible is a companion to the FX docuseries, A Wilderness of Error coming to FX September 25, and streaming next day on Hulu.

The Binge Cases: Doctor Billions

After Derika Moses injured her back at work, she got her spine fused. But after surgery, her pain only got worse. She didn’t know why  — until she got a letter in the mail telling her that some of the spinal hardware in her back might be counterfeit. Not sterile. Not FDA approved. Made in a machine shop in Temecula, California.

Doctor Billions tells the story of the billion-dollar healthcare fraud that turned thousands of patients into unwitting cogs in a scheme involving dozens of doctors, lawyers and healthcare professionals across the country.

At the center of one of the nation’s largest healthcare frauds was an elusive man named Michael Drobot. His ambition to turn a Long Beach hospital into a destination for back surgeons  was at the expense of thousands of patients blind to what was happening behind the scenes.

One whistleblower told me: “I’m looking at the surgery board for tomorrow going, ‘These people are f***ed.’”

Doctor Billions is hosted by Peabody Award-winning journalist Ben Adair for Sony Music Entertainment’s The Binge.

57 Shots in 90 Seconds

Fifty-seven shots in ninety seconds, five people dead, seven others wounded and it all happened inside a courtroom on a cold March day in 1912. Lives and fortunes were lost over what most believe was a senseless tragedy. The echoes of the gunfire have long since disappeared but the wounds left behind in the quaint little town of Hillsville, Virginia have continued to fester. The political drama that led up to the shooting has divided families for generations. Some say the shootout was self-defense, others murder. Many of the questions surrounding that day have yet to be answered. Fifty-Seven shots in ninety seconds. Who fired the first shot?
