Working Knowledge

Host Archana Ram explores the foundational nature of knowledge, and asks the questions that matter about our relationship with each other and the natural world. How are lessons passed through generations to help us feel at home? What barriers prevent us from acquiring natural wisdom? How can we adapt in the face of a rapidly changing climate? And so much more. Knowledge acts as a vessel; it must be shared, kept, evolved, and passed on. Please join us at Patagonia Stories.

Your Next Draft

Supporting fiction writers doing the hard work of revising unputdownable novels. The novel editing process is the creative crucible where you discover the story you truly want to tell—and it can present some of the most challenging moments on your writing journey.

Developmental editor and book coach Alice Sudlow will be your companion through the mess and magic of revision. You’ll get inspired by interviews with authors, editors, and coaches sharing their revision processes; gain practical tips from Alice’s editing practice; and hear what real revision truly requires as Alice workshops scenes-in-progress with writers.

It’s all a quest to discover: How do you figure out what your story is truly about? How do you determine what form that story should take? And once you do, how do you shape the hundreds of thousands of words you’ve written into the story’s most refined and powerful form?

If you’ve written a draft—or three—but are still searching for your story’s untapped potential, this is the podcast for you. Together, let’s dig into the difficult and delightful work of editing your next draft.

Digital Folklore

Digital Folklore is an immersive audio adventure that takes place inside a fictional universe, but explores the real-world truths behind various expressions of internet culture and how each holds up a mirror to the society from which they emerge.

This podcast is great for audio fiction fans who really really want to enjoy interview-based shows, or for listeners who love expert interviews and insights but long for something unique and unexpected.

Join Perry Carpenter and Mason Amadeus as they explore the wild and wonderful world of online folklore, encountering a wide range of characters—both real and fictional—who provide a wealth of folkloric insight while simultaneously creating new lore. With topics ranging from the absurd to the unsettling, the Digital Folklore podcast is an accessible and entertaining way to learn about folkloric concepts and societal truths. Oh…and be sure to listen carefully—you never know what you might find.

Hyphenated Journey

In this miniseries, Yasmeen shares her honest and open reflection about growing up as an Iraqi-American, a “hyphenated American”. This is not a story about politics, or war. Instead, this is a story about what it was like to grow up as a child of immigrants who fled a country due to political instability.

While this miniseries is focused on her story, she also interviews Iraqis who lived through the Gulf Wars in Iraq and later immigrated to the United States. Many Iraqis are still deeply traumatized from living under a dictatorship, and many are paranoid about publicly sharing their narratives with the world as they’ve been punished for doing so for so many years.

Yasmeen takes us on a journey of her inner inquiry and a reconciliation with her inner child, as she questions her place in the greater narrative of what it is to be a hyphenated American.

Hyphenated Journey is a Hakawati production.
Written, narrated and directed by Yasmeen Turayhi.
Sound design by Karim Beidoun.
Cover design by Aya Mobaydeen and inspired by Sue Turayhi.
Creatives by Gina Abou Hamad.

Special thanks goes to Sinan Al-Mokhtar and Hamada Zahawi for their courage in sharing their stories.
