In the 1980s the “male exotic dancers” of Chippendales were everywhere, selling the promise of women’s liberation for the price of a few dollars in a g-string. But behind the powerful mullets, oiled pecs, and non-stop parties lies a much darker story of greed, corruption and murder. Historian Natalia Petrzela exposes one of the great, sordid, unexamined stories in American culture.
What happens when the information you are given ISN’T the whole story? What happens when discussing a complex issue, you are the ONLY one going against the pack? My goal is to bring thoughtful and in-depth discussion to the table, both with interviews and my own commentary. ❤️ Open minds necessary, critical thinkers welcome.
Welcome to the Culture Care Podcast.
In this audio space, we’re setting up a kintsugi-based workshop to name our fractures and to become students of ways of mending.
Seated around this workshop table are guests with a range of interests, stories, skills, experiences. They are artists, journalists, thinkers, professors, students, theologians, poets, musicians…all makers who are paving the way for a more generative and holistic world.
Each person brings something unique to the table –– their particular experience with brokenness, and finding their way toward healing.
Thanks for listening!
A group of smart, funny friends meet together every week to talk about the book they’re reading—a book that just so happens to be incredibly buzzy and in the zeitgeist because it has an adaptation coming up on the big screen or via streaming. Because when everyone at work is talking about it, we want to be the smug ones who can say we actually read the book first. Hosted by Dana Schwartz, Jennifer Wright, Korama Danquah, Melissa Hunter, and Tien Tran. New episodes every Monday!
Many see Shaun King on the frontlines of America’s movement for police accountability and civil rights. What is less visible is how this very public fight shows up in the private lives of those leading the movement. In this intimate podcast we get to know Rai King, equity director, lifelong educator, mother of five, and spouse of Shaun King. She and Shaun candidly discuss the highs and lows of being married and raising a family in the midst of this tumultuous political climate. All episodes launch to members of The North Star first.
