The Village

In the early 1990s, as AIDS tightens its grip on major cities around the world, the relative safety of Montreal’s nightlife becomes a magnet for gay men. But when they start turning up dead in hotel rooms, beaten lifeless in city parks, and violently murdered in their own homes, the queer community has more to fear than the disease. While the city’s police force dithers over the presence of a serial killer, a group of queer activists starts making connections, and rises up to start a movement that would end up changing thousands of lives. Small Town Forgotten

Small Town Forgotten is an investigative true crime podcast and documentary project rooted in family, memory, and a decades-long fight for justice.

At the heart of the story are twin daughters who grew up without answers. In 1989, their father, Jimmie Wade Martin, was murdered in Bonne Terre, Missouri. There were witnesses. There was a weapon. There was even a confession.

But no one was ever convicted.

For over 30 years, the twins have refused to let their father’s story be forgotten. What started as grief became persistence—and that persistence has inspired a family and a community to come together and demand answers.

Hosted by Chris Hulsey and built alongside the Martin family, Small Town Forgotten follows a family-led investigation as they reopen the case, retrace the past, and confront what was left undone.

This is not a story told from the outside. This is a local team. A family searching for truth. A small town reckoning with its past.

Grit over gloss. By family, for family.

Host & Executive Producer - Chris Hulsey
Line Producer & Executive Producer - Ashton Hulsey
Writer & Executive Producer - Vonessa Martin
