Jamell Demons, also known as the up-and-coming rapper YNW Melly, gained notoriety in the hip hop world for both his shocking lyrics and his criminal exploits. Although he has never denied his past convictions, Melly adamantly denies any involvement in the gruesome murders of two of his best friends in 2018.

YNW Melly's first and second trials both ended in hung juries, and as of February 2024, his trial is paused and awaiting adjudication of the inclusion of digital evidence: a 20-minute documentary about his own life, which prosecutors say is evidence he was at the scene of the crime in question.
