Tara Lipinski: Unexpecting

Tara Lipinski: Unexpecting takes listeners through the Olympic figure skating champions’ tumultuous, on-going, five-year quest to become a mother. Her journey began in 2018, and since then, the normally open and public athlete-turned-broadcaster has kept this often-devastating roller-coaster ride a secret. Until now. Most people have heard of in vitro fertilization (IVF), but not the often-cruel existence it forces upon its patients when complications arise. Listeners will be shocked at the vulnerability and honesty of the conversations, and the hunt for some sort of acceptable reason for Tara’s excruciatingly painful struggle to build a family will continually drive the story forward. Unexpecting will tackle uncomfortable and taboo subjects and take on the complicated issues surrounding IVF and infertility with sincerity and humor. Tara certainly didn’t predict she would be thrust into this world. But as the cliché goes, expect the unexpected. Read More

Dirt Road Democrat – The Heartland Collective

Jess Piper is the lightning rod, the shield, and the sword for those who simply need the know that their voice is not alone, but part of a broad and growing network of folks who see the same thing. Decades of failed "Red State" policies leaving generations behind as schools, jobs, and healthcare abandon poor areas. Born in rural Arkansas, Jess's own experience shape her politics. After an upbringing in a check to check household with the Church at the center, Jess made her way through college eventually becoming an english teacher. Now, Jess, a mother and grandmother, makes her home on a small farm in one of the most rural areas of northern Missouri. After more than 16 years in the classroom, Jess jumped into politics feet first with a run for office in a heavily tilted district where Jess's candidacy was the first by a Democrat in a generation. Jess has deep roots in the dirt roads of America and her politics, the creation of her experiences, serve now as a megaphone for the disaffected many who feel like they stand alone in a sea of disparate and extreme policies. Join Jess as she travels the dirt roads of American politics and helps us find the connection of the urban/rural existence of food deserts, attacks on public education, and policies that impact those with the least - regardless of their zip codes. Free From Desire

1 podcast, 2 versions:

🇺🇸 Aline, 34, has never been attracted to anyone - neither sexually nor romantically. They retrace their steps through the trials and tribulations of an adolescence steeped in supercharged pop culture messaging and explore how accepting their asexuality and aromantism allowed them to redefine what love, relationship and family mean to them.

“This compelling personal story has lessons and insights for anyone with a body”, Tribeca Festival

"Though Free From Desire provides plenty of answers, its success isn’t rooted in being educational—accompanying Aline as they pursue agency and happiness, regardless of who understands it, fuels the show’s magic", The Atlantic

Free from Desire is a podcast originally published in France, where it made the cover of magazines.

It has been Tribeca Festival's best Audio Storytelling and Signal Awards' best Diversity, Equity & Inclusion podcast in 2023, and was one of the 25 best podcasts of 2023 for The Atlantic.

Stranger Becomes Neighbor

We saw it on the news. The images still haunt us.

Two years ago this month, a desperate sea of humanity rushed the Kabul airport as the American military started mass evacuations in Afghanistan. Many were left behind to face the Taliban, while some escaped to countries like Iran and Pakistan.

For over 80,000 refugees, America is now home. Their lives continue, but our news feeds have moved on, blasting stories about today’s crisis-du-jour. Now these evacuees live beside us, trying to make ends meet, find housing, gain acceptance, adapt to a new culture, and become valued members of our communities.

In Stranger Becomes Neighbor, we follow them. And we meet the Americans who have chosen to help their new neighbors. Like the stay-at-home mom who convinces a neighbor to rent out their basement to a pregnant Afghan woman, then finds herself helping to deliver the baby. Like a young widow who served in a secret pro-American unit of the Afghan military and now struggles to find childcare so she can work at Walmart.

Their stories – and the heartbreaking stories of loved ones left behind – inspire us to discover the hope and triumph of the human spirit.

What can one person do to help a stranger?

We find out on a new podcast from KSL Podcasts, the people who brought you Cold and The Letter.

Coming soon, Stranger Becomes Neighbor

Fearless

This empowering series tells the stories of inspirational people who have overcome challenges and fears in their lives in order to thrive. With the help of stellar guests including Dame Judi Dench, Michelle Visage and Evy Poumpouras, Trinny will be digging deep into the fears that can hold us back from our goals, and how to overcome them. “Can you actually choose to live a more fearless life? And what could you achieve if you did? Fear is something I’ve felt deeply at multiple points in my life. Like so many others will know, it's an emotion that can leave us feeling paralysed, or like we just can’t compete. Those telltale butterflies. Feeling frozen in the headlights. Panic. We’ve all been there. But there is nothing more inspiring than seeing a friend stare fear right in the eyes. And whenever I’ve been challenged by fear, that rush has led me to unexpected places... In this podcast, I’ll be talking to guests who’ve made inspiring steps to overcome the hurdles and the nerves – and we’ll answer your questions about how to build an entirely new, fearless mindset” – Trinny Woodall Follow Trinny on Instagram and Facebook @trinnywoodall A Pixiu Production. Journalista

The untold tale of the woman who broke one of the biggest scandals in U.S. history.

The true story of Courtney “Cookie” Hood, former model and ex-wife of a Colombian drug cartel kingpin, hired to manage the CBS/60 Minutes field office in Managua, Nicaragua during the civil war in the ‘80s.  What starts as another big party for her, ends up being the history making adventure of a lifetime, blowing the lid off the Iran-Contra scandal and almost taking down the Reagan presidency.

Award winning filmmaker, Steven Esteb, takes us into the dangerous and improbable lives of Cookie and her team of courageous wartime journalists covering the civil wars, revolutions, and US missteps in Central America.

JOURNALISTA is dangerous, irreverent, insatiable, and hilarious.  An inside look at the insane world of combat journalism.  They worked hard, and they partied harder.

Stephen Kinzer (former bureau chief of the New York Times) writes: “During the 1980s and 1990s, Cookie Hood was the driving force behind the most successful television coverage of Central America that appeared anywhere in the United States.”

Cookie uses her unique mix of charm, balls, and passion for social justice, to get through checkpoints, into jungle military camps, and the highest levels of government.  She's also a clear and present danger to the shadow U.S. government that is using Central America as a right-wing terror experiment in their fight against communism.

Cookie and her cohorts are brilliant trainwrecks speeding down a path to self- destruction. At the same time, they might just change the world.

Hosted and Created by Steven Esteb

Produced by Sean J. Donnelly

Executive Producers: Jason Waggenspack, Ellen K & Roy Laughlin
