The Boogie Down with Binky Griptite (KZMO HD)

Binky Griptite is well known to soul fans around the world as a founding member of the legendary Dap-Kings. If that’s news to you, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings revitalized modern soul music with Sharon’s dynamic performances, and the Dap Kings’ vintage sound would eventually propel Amy Winehouse to superstardom and Sharon Jones to legendary status. All emceed by your Master of Ceremonies Binky Griptite. After Sharon’s passing in 2016, Binky turned his attention to his long held dream - a radio show just like the ones he grew up listening to in the early 70s. “The experience of emceeing on tour for 20 years was invaluable. It taught me I could talk to large groups of people. So after we couldn’t tour I started thinking about how people have always told me ‘You have a great voice. You should be on the radio’. That’s always stayed on my mind ever since I was a kid.” Binky found a supporter in WFUV Program Director and SJDK superfan Rita Houston. On July 22 2017 The Boogie Down was born! It quickly became a fan favorite on the influential NYC station. Listeners around the world commented that The Boogie Down helped them cope with the tense summers of protest, the isolation of 2020 lockdowns, and post election stress. “That’s what it’s there for, thank you” In life and career Binky holds women in high-regard. “The biggest and the most important people in my career have mostly been Black and Brown women”. This time is no different. KZMOHD, the new home of “The Boogie Down with Binky Griptite,” is a Black, woman-owned cultural media network broadcasting original content in high-definition. Binky couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to celebrate the black women who have given him so much, especially his dear friend, the late Ms. Sharon Jones. 52 The Podcast

"52 – The Podcast" with Kristian Bush and Cindy Watts celebrates the stories behind Bush's new and award-winning songs. Original episodes will be released for free every week for 52 weeks. Bush, half of the Grammy-winning duo Sugarland, half of the critically acclaimed Americana folk-rock duo Billy Pilgrim and a founding member of rock group Dark Water, is releasing 52 songs over the next year in honor of his 52nd birthday on March 14, 2022. The album project, also called "52," will come out in four volumes over the next 12-to-18 months. Each episode of "52 – The Podcast" will explore the relationship between one of the popular songs from Bush's back catalog and one of the new songs from "52." Bush and Watts give insight into the songwriting process, the singer/songwriter's day-to-day life, and the musical journey that took him from his hometown of Sevierville, Tenn., to Atlanta, Nashville, and around the world as part of his various bands. Fun fact: Bush and Watts, a CMA Award-winning country music journalist, are from the same hometown. They share poignant moments, hilarity and plenty of dad jokes as they wind their way through their middle-age in the music business experience and Bush's life of songs. Read More

Unjust Justice: The James Rosemond Story

In the 1980s, few people were more feared in Brooklyn than ex-Rikers Island inmate and legendary street figure Jimmy Rosemond, aka “Jimmy Henchman,” or “Jimmy Ace.” In 1991, Jimmy co-founded the first Hip-Hop Mega conference called How Can I Be Down, and in due course, founded Czar Entertainment where he managed top music artists & athletes. In June of 2011, Jimmy was arrested by DEA Agents and US Marshalls, after being on the run for months. Jimmy was charged with what is called “The Kingpin Statute.” They alleged that Jimmy was the leader of a nationwide, drug organization that was using the cover of his Hip-Hop music business and recording studios to transport close to 30 kilos of cocaine a month. So how on earth did this story of success and smart business savvy end up in a high-profile criminal trial and NINE life sentences? Hosted by Michael K Williams... "Unjust Justice: The James Rosemond Story" releases new episodes every Monday. Available where you listen to podcasts.
