Autism’s First Child

Note: Donald Triplett passed away on June 15, 2023. He was 89. Donald lived a full and happy life in Forest, Mississippi, and will be missed by many. This podcast is a tribute to his life and legacy.

Autism's First Child traces the history of autism through the first person ever diagnosed, and the rural community that helped raise him. Named “Case 1” in 1943, Donald Triplett was in and out of an institution and spent time with history’s most important child psychiatrist by the time he was five. But he went on to live nearly nine happy decades in Forest, Mississippi. What can his story teach us about creating a better world for those who are “different”?

Fate of Fact

Pulitzer-Prize winning and best-selling historian Jon Meacham and esteemed guests explore the history and origins of the strong grip misinformation and disinformation have on our politics. Meacham will trace the roots of America’s prevailing culture of polarization, with an emphasis on why the right has chosen to break with a governing consensus that, however imperfect, was once embodied by the figurative conversation between Franklin Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan. Fate of Fact offers a historically grounded perspective on the forces that led to the presidency of Donald Trump and the insurrection of January 6, 2021—an attack on the Capitol and on democracy as grave as any American moment since the Civil War. Fate of Fact is an Audacy original presented in partnership with Shining City Audio. Read More

Silly Hats: A History Podcast

Houston-based comedian's Will Loden and Nick Palermo have a theory; That every conflict in human history boils down to one group of people looking at another group of people and thinking "Their hats are dumb, and we should take their things." Each week, on the new podcast "Silly Hats: A History Podcast", we break down a different conflict, from various time periods in history, to prove our hat-based conflict-theory. We also learn hat words! And silly facts! And we roast hats with our favorite comics! It's real history, with real research and a compelling narrative. Plus fun! New episodes available every Wednesday at 5am EST. On the Whiskey Brother's Podcast Network. 1001 Stories From the Old West

Welcome to the new 1001 Stories From the Old West.. Here we offer hand-picked accounts from diaries, historical documents, autobiographies, books of the time period, and historians to bring you the American frontier story directly from the people who lived it. You'll hear actual accounts of Indian battles, pioneer struggles, outlaws, cowboys and Indians, lawmen, and the men and women who took the chance and moved west, many by wagon train, to a largely uncharted and wild territory. Go west, young man, are the words often attributed to Horace Greeley, American author and newspaper editor, but there was more to that quote. He wrote “Washington is not a place to live in- the rents are high, the food is bad, and the morals are deplorable. Go west, young man, go west, and grow up with the country. We invite you to go west with us to another world, another time, another place- and see if you have what it takes to survive and thrive in a world that was much simpler than today's- yet demanded much more of you. Time to mount up-1001 Stories From the Old West is waiting for you.
