Movement is a podcast, radio series and live show that tells stories of global migration through music. Hosted by Ethiopian-American singer Meklit Hadero, the show is a meditation on the large-scale forces at play in individual lives. Issues of citizenship, identity, belonging, and borders are explored through the experiences of artists themselves: two brothers sharing one guitar, a daughter trying on her father’s shoes, the lineage of a drum, and the sounds of a grandmother’s backyard.

Following the release of Michael J Tinker's own album exploring loss and hope ('When There Are No Words' 2023) he decided to embark on this new podcast interviewing other artists who have looked at similar themes. Chatting to Christian authors, songwriters and visual artists Michael discusses what draws them to this difficult topic, how they navigate stewarding both their own story and other people's, and how they seek to honestly portray the Christian journey through this life to eternity. And despite (or maybe because of) the difficult subject, these are truly uplifting conversations.

In the first series Michael interviews author Doug McKelvey ('Every Moment Holy'), author and songwriter Andrew Peterson (The Wingfeather Saga, 'Is He Worthy?', The Burning Edge of Dawn), painter Ally Gordon (Morphe Arts, 'Why Art Matters'), author Hannah Hess (Dark Star), songwriter Sara Groves (Floodplains), writer and artist Sophie Killingley ('Draw Near') and author and painter Jamin Still (who's candle image you can see on the album cover).

In a moment of fate in 2017, Dane is gifted a bundle of old love letters and theatrical scripts. They were written by a man named Daryl Allen in the years before AIDS took his life in 1991. Daryl was a bisexual man and amateur playwright who lived in San Francisco through the 70s and 80s. Along with the letters, Dane is given a task: tell Daryl's story and give his theatrical work the audience it lost when his life was cut short by HIV.

Over the next five years, Dane settles into the role of detective, using Daryl's letters to track down his exes, his old friends, and his relatives. Dane is taken from Montreal to San Francisco, from small-town Kansas to the Vietnam War. As his investigation unfolds, Dane discovers striking similarities between himself and Daryl, raising questions about how the AIDS crisis shaped today's queer communities and launching a dialogue between generations.

Part investigation, part historical documentary, and part love story, Resurrection asks us what we leave behind when we go. While HIV/AIDS is a major theme, Daryl's story proves that for every person lost to AIDS, there's a life story that started long before a diagnosis and is just waiting to be resurrected.
