How can education help promote human progress—and how can we promote progress in education? Ray Girn and Matt Bateman from Higher Ground Education explain how a Montessori education fosters independent thinking and creativity, and share lessons they’ve learned about innovation from running the world’s fastest-growing Montessori chain.
Ray Girn is CEO of Higher Ground Education. In March 2016, Girn founded Higher Ground with the vision of greatly accelerating the growth of Montessori education globally. Higher Ground aims to create a comprehensive international platform to deliver high-quality, high-fidelity Montessori programming everywhere, as well as to conduct the research and development necessary to extend Montessori principles to new, innovative models of secondary education.
Matt Bateman is Vice President of Pedagogy at Higher Ground Education. Dr. Bateman works closely with people across the organization, ensuring depth, quality, and consistency across curricular development projects, training, educational technology partnerships, and even strategic growth and messaging. He is closely involved with the development of new programming, such as language immersion and high school. And he acts as a key representative of Higher Ground’s educational philosophy, writing position papers, engaging with researchers, giving lectures, and engaging with the larger educational community.
