The Decaturish Podcast interviews Nima Daivari with Lime scooters Mar 21, 2019
    Show notes

The Atlanta area has seen an explosion of e-scooters, devices that people can rent and use to get where they’re going. The influx of scooters has taken many city officials by surprise.

The two big players in the e-scooter buisness are Lime and Bird.

The city of Decatur recently attempted to regulate these scooters by adopting a temporary operating agreement. Only Lime agreed to those terms. Now the city is seeking public input on an ordinance to regulate the use of scooters in the city. On Wednesday, March 27, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the city is holding a “drop-in” input and information session at the Decatur Recreation Center, 231 Sycamore Street to discuss the ordinance.

Today we have invited Nima Daivari, a community affairs manager for Lime, to talk about the new ordinance learn more about the e-scooter business.

Today we’re going to do something different. Truman Capote is my favorite author. One of my favorite stories of his is “A Jug of Silver,” a story about the kindness and sweetness of a small Southern town.

With the permission of the Truman Capote Literary Trust, and because it’s Christmas, the Decaturish Podcast presents a special reading of “A Jug of Silver.”

Note: Decaturish apologizes for some of the technical issues present in this Podcast. We were trying a new recording set up for the first time and it didn’t execute as well as we’d hoped. We will do better next time.

The Nov. 6 election is in the books and while not every contest is settled yet, we have a good idea of how things played out. Democrats will take the House, as expected, and also as expected, Republicans will keep and increase control of the Senate. That trend played out locally as well.

Republican political consultant and former Sandy Springs City Councilman Gabriel Sterling, DeKalb Strong founder Marjorie Snook, and politician and journalist George Chidi joined the Decaturish podcast to talk about the election results and what they mean for the future of Georgia and the nation. Topics include Stacey Abrams’ political future, the influence of social media on our behavior and whether Democrats can actually win in the South without winning over Trump voters.

Decatur Police Lt. Jennifer Ross has been working on a special series of brochures called, “What is Suspicious?”

It’s meant for city residents, but it is useful advice for every community. The brochure teaches people to report suspicious behavior and not people who “look suspicious.”
