UNSOLVED: Casino Heir: Ted Binion Oct 15, 2026

Ted Binion was 21 when he took over the casino floor at Binion's Horseshoe, the no-limits gambling hall his father Benny built in Las Vegas, and he ran it for 30 years. By March 1998, regulators had revoked his gaming license for good. That July, he had 24 tons of silver buried 12 feet underground on a lot in Pahrump. That September, he was found dead on a mattress in his den, an empty bottle of Xanax beside him, and police called it an overdose and left without sealing the room. Two days later, deputies found three men digging up his silver, and within a year the coroner had reclassified his death and two people were facing murder charges. In Part 1 of Murder: True Crime Stories, host Carter Roy introduces Ted Binion and the gambling empire he grew up inside, the addiction and mob ties that cost him the casino, and the unsecured house that shaped every question asked about his death ever since. But when his parents' flashing headlights never found him, Brandon started walking toward town, his father still on the line, until he yelled two words and went silent. What began as a routine favor became one of Minnesota's most confounding disappearances: an officer who said Brandon had a "right to be missing," his car found twenty-five miles from where he swore he was, and almost two hours of his final night that no one has ever explained.

CONSPIRACY THEORY: The Mandela Effect Oct 12, 2026

In 2009, at a science fiction convention in Atlanta, a paranormal researcher named Fiona Broome discovered that strangers shared her vivid memory of Nelson Mandela dying in prison in the 1980s. Mandela walked free in 1990 and died in 2013. Broome named it the Mandela Effect, and the catalogue grew: a children's book spelled wrong, a logo with a horn that never existed, a Sinbad genie movie nobody made. Believers concluded that reality had been edited and their memories were souvenirs of a lost timeline. Then in 2022, University of Chicago researchers put the phenomenon in a lab, confirmed that huge numbers of strangers share the same specific false memories, and reported no clear explanation for why. A nurse and the mother of two young daughters, she had spent years trying to hold together a marriage to Chris Dawson, a former rugby league player and PE teacher the community adored. Months earlier, Chris had moved a teenage student into the family's spare room, and Lynette's friends had started noticing bruises on her arms.
